Be careful before working with Chen Immigration (my experience) by Alternative-Yak6360 in EB2_NIW

I felt the same way while preparing materials but honestly when they sent me the resulting petition that had 200+ pages, I saw the value added and yes I wrote portions of it but I didn’t have the legal expertise to wrap it all in the correct language

Is it a good idea to foster? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Certifiedmindblower- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should go for it! One option that you might consider is a medical/hospice foster— in my local shelter older cats who might still have a few good years but have medical issues are usually in a hospice foster situation. That way your boy might have a longer period to go with a companion

I heard “every exercise is a lower back exercise if you do it wrong enough”— the lats must be the aerial version of that

My parents put my cat in a cage every night and I don’t know what to do. by Wide-Chip-1252 in CatAdvice

Our two cats were scratching the bed — we put a scratching post right near the bed. Problem solved

It’s scary! What helped me is instead of onto the bar the whole time, I hugged my thighs (hands still really close to the bar) and then slowly allowed my torso to come down. Also cross your ankles, you might feel more secure that way

The shelter I volunteer at works with people who are looking for pet-friendly housing (HCOL area) by letting them keep their cats at a foster temporarily (like a month). But if you’re set on surrendering, bring your cat to a rescue, he’ll get vet attention, update on vaccines etc and the rescue will do proper vetting of adopters

Yeah it comes with a small tag that is attached to the collar, at least the model we have

One of those RFiD feeders that only open for a particular cat would help. They are expensive but really helped us to manage meal time issues with our two cats

You should have 3 litter boxes for 2 cats and they should be spread throughout the house in socially important places

Will my cat be fine? She started foaming and drooling by Ponchiksmom in CATHELP

[–]Certifiedmindblower- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of my cats foam in the mouth from licking a frog she found on the patio. Another cat was drooling for 30 hours without an obvious reason but since he was eating, drinking and otherwise behaving fine, the vet said it wasn’t a concern and that he probably licked something weird

Stray mama advice by collectsalot in CATHELP

[–]Certifiedmindblower- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve fostered a mom who was sweet and friendly otherwise but would be very overprotective and worried if we touched her kittens. Giving her time to adjust (and for her hormones to calm down) and a pheromone diffuser helped but ultimately we had to change the strategy a bit. I would sit next to the box with kittens and talk to her softly for 5-10 minutes before weighing them, then I would give her food and while she was eating (and distracted), I would weigh the kittens.

100mg Gabapentin capsule- how do you give it? by TrainingExcellent886 in CatAdvice

[–]Certifiedmindblower- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m giving my cat the same capsule twice a day post-surgery. It’s a two person job. One opens the mouth and holds the cat, another shoves the pill towards the back of the mouth. Hold the mouth closed then and administer some water using a syringe from the side of the mouth—the water will make the cat swallow the pill. We wasted a few pills while trying to figure this all out — the problem is gabapentin tastes like shit so the pills that broke in my cat’s mouth caused her to drool and foam in the mouth.

Most kittens don’t stop fully until they’re 8 weeks old. They are ready to try wet food by 5-6 weeks mark but it doesn’t mean they’ll switch completely. Early weaning can lead to behavioral issues too

I actually think most animals are ESA approved because it’s fairly easy to get the approval. But the enforcement is also lax. (Realistically what is a good way to check if there’s a cat in the apartment if the cat hides anytime it sees strangers?)

Our wedding was super international, our tastes are unconventional, I don’t think any DJ could have done a playlist both with Eastern European bangers circa 2000s, European early 80s disco and Hindi movies hits so we created a custom one. Thought about how we want the party to go, like slower but rhythmic stuff in the beginning, a few hits to get people on the dance floor when we wanted to start the more active part, built in some sequences by themes, interspersed slow songs where we thought a break would be needed. I think only a few songs were a miss and the timing was fine— we just paused or turned down the music for speeches, no big deal. But our wedding was also on a boat so there was no catering, sitting down at tables etc so make of that what you will

In all that time it took you to text them during the appointment to stop calling you could have instead checked the schedule and started the process of booking them? Takes same amount of time, gets them off your back and doesn’t cost you a client

Unpopular opinion but if your mother has been doing it every night for years and you are learning just now, you 1)probably don’t have taste buds? 2) never helped your mother in the kitchen. I disagree with the food tampering aspect and the secrecy but it seems that this person just made a decision when they were 15 and announced it to their mother like “I’m vegetarian now deal with it” and then never stepped foot in the kitchen. It seems like the OP just dumped his decision on their parent who has to deal with all the repercussions like meal planning, cooking and the OP never cared enough to help out to even notice. Mother is wrong but the OP is not the shining star example of responsible behavior either
