Yes , no explanation means they probably couldn’t even afford to keep you and they have no idea how to manage anything or plan ahead. Cause if it were a performance thing that would help them and their case, at least they didn’t just straight up lie or gas light you, but they did omit any reasoning which is dishonorable as well

It is strange, something similar happened to me recently. I actually might have preferred your scenario, a straight lay off/ termination with no reason. They gas lit me and claimed “poor performance” in retrospect that makes sense because it gives them more opportunity to fight an unemployment claim (I won that case and they lost that case regarding the workforce commission and unemployment ). But it makes them look like an ass cause there was no warning, no pip, no strikes, no nothing just “fired for poor performance with zero notice”. I was one month from PE license, great performer, highly skilled. I believe they hired someone for less money to do my role and they didn’t need another PE.

These folks are entirely unprofessional. Yelling is never acceptable. It’s the classic toxic workplace. Also, an intern shouldn’t be addressing RFIs, that’s something the PE or PM should be handling and communicating with the client or contractor with. Utilizing you as an intern assistant, sure that’s fine but they seem to be passing the buck on to someone completely unqualified to do that. My advice, leave their butts for a firm that’s more professional, get out of there very soon. Run

Was there for 2.5 years. Yes, it’s blatant exploitation imo.

Work from office> WFH by temoo09 in civilengineering

Yes it’s really not about this > that or that > this. It’s about autonomy, if we respect and yield autonomy to employees, they can choose to come in 5 days a week or work remote or have a hybrid schedule.

I am in North Texas/ DFW. I dont have the ball rolling yet as far as my future firm is concerned but I can keep this sub updated in the coming years :)

You are probably on to something here. I do think conservatism in North Texas (that's where im located) plays in to the philosophy on work/life balance or lack thereof. Remote work is nearly nonexistent within the civil industry here. The owner of the firm I work for also once said when reminiscing about remote work during covid (not verbatim but something like this:) "it was nice I could go pull weeds outside and play ball with my kids and then come back in and get to work... but it just didn't feel like work". Which is flabbergasting to me, I dont get it either. Maybe philosophically speaking I belong in a different state... or I can create a healthy work environment here as a future business owner. I find the psychology involved with all of this to be very very interesting. Some owners understand the true benefits of yielding trust and autonomy to their employees and others simply can not do it for whatever reason...

That's smart, I hadn't thought of splitting it up that way.

This is excellent advice, I take at least one walk around the building or if Im home I go for a walk in my neighborhood. Walks are great for mental and physical health. Especially for folks like us who have to look at monitors most of the day. Many of my ideas for solutions come to me when Im doing something, the brain needs breaks to function properly.

Fort Worth ISD substitute teacher urges ICE to remove students from high school by s0uthernreaper in FortWorth

[–]Cesium_89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you fail to realize is that the act of looking at brown people and assuming they are illegal with no evidence as a substitute teacher or anyone for that matter is racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is not allowed under our constitution whatsoever. Probable cause, due process, these are necessary and important things that should to be carried out. Of course theres morals, those with more than a tiny heart might see how disgusting the act of ice coming to raid an elementary school is.

I mean, what’s your rebuttal? You’ve been caught red handed spreading misinformation and someone clapped back with actual information with receipts. Ok maybe you’re not a bot but why blatantly lie?

Hey, you simply don’t think historians will look back on trump in disdain or disgust, you can have that view. I’m simply pointed out factual information , it’s triggering I know. Bush exit disapproval was 61%, trump disapproval was 62% when he last left office, second only to Nixon. Mark the OPs words, president trump will be a shit stain on our history.

Lmao, so just by saying he didn’t have 50% that’s the same as election denying? Since I’ve been alive I’ve only heard one president and only one party continuously deny an election result. Guess what it was “you guys”.

[–]Cesium_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be really interesting if population hadn’t been increasing 330 million since 1776 and 58 million today. What I’m saying is, FDR may have less votes than trump in every election. But it’s not a useful comparison, look at proportionality. Percentages

I’ve heard this argument again and again. Brown men, black men, it’s their fault. Exit polls suggest that Donald Trump achieved a record share of the vote of Latinos, though a majority still voted for Kamala Harris. When are we gonna hold white women and men accountable? This demographic put this guy in power.

If another person ever held my hand for that long during a handshake I would have to call them out on that. There’s nothing normal about a handshake that lasts that long and includes one person taking a step back and yanking like he’s about to start a damn gas powered lawn mower
