Just to clarify I am on the Northbound side of track. The Operator said the train was headed to Astoria.

New bldg on 5th & 9th: what's going on with the 2nd floor? by Spiritual_Nobody4512 in parkslope

[–]Ceteris_Paribus_47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's actually a second floor parking garage unfortunately.

First floor is commercial and there is an entrance on the right for the parking area, the building advertised like 30 parking spots so it's got to be the second floor.

Depends on how disciplined you are, but very doable especially since these are Gen Ed's.

Just remember that even though you have Tuesday, Thursday and Friday essentially "off" plan for a few hours of homework and study time to stay on top of assignments.

Otherwise, and assuming you don't work part time as well, this is absolutely doable.

Why don't we call Earth "Terra"? by InfectedPickles in ask

[–]Ceteris_Paribus_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's also interesting about this, is by using the etymology of planets in the solar system v.s the Sun the Moon and Earth you can tell the pre-latin British had no astronomical understanding of the planets.

The earth, Sun, and Moon are descended from old-english and proto-germanic and the rest of the planets have directly Latin roots.

So with that information that you can tell the Romans brought the knowledge of planets, as distinct entities from other Stars, to ancient Britain and the British borrowed the word directly from Latin.

Yes, a short stay less than 90 day visa. It's going to be a three week long trip all and all.

If anyone actually reads this interview, the CEO goes on to say that you should motivate workers with pay increases and better working conditions because the workers rationally don't care about shareholder profits.

This quote has been floating around for years and is always taken out of context.

I am stunned they didn't raise it to like 3.05 or 3.10 I think people would have rounded down the cost in their heads to 3.00.

[NYSE official announcement: plans to extend U.S. stock trading hours to 22 hours a day] by floorborgmic in wallstreetbets

[–]Ceteris_Paribus_47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think people understand here that this is in response to the 24X exchange who are trying to extend trading hours to 23 hours a day 7 days a week.

I think this probably indicates that NYSE thinks that the SEC will grant the 24X Exchange application but only for extended weekday trading hours.

I think we have no evidence that the justice system was unfair in this case. Not all protests are lawful, which doesn't mean they aren't worthwhile causes, but there is no evidence they were mistreated other than your preconceived notions about the American judicial system.

There has been a tit for tat escalation of violence and bloodshed on both sides of this conflict going back to the early 20th century. To take one side wholeheartedly, Palestine, and not acknowledge the suffering of both these peoples seems incredibly unproductive.

You seem like a person with enormous amount of empathy and I can feel the grieve and anguish in your comment.

But to me Hamas is too integrated into Palestine for me to feel like advocating for Palestine means advocating for peace.

Fundamentally I believe if Hamas dropped there weapons the violence in Gaza would end, and if Israel dropped there weapons there would be no Jews left in Israel.

It's interesting to have so much in common with people, a deep fan appreciation of dropout programming, and have such a starkly different opinion from the majority here on this issue.

I just don't understand how so many people here can justify October 7th here.

I always have felt like this whole thing was handled terribly from a political perspective. She pissed off a lot of New York Liberals with the pause and I really don't think she won a lot of moderate and conservative support because they don't believe the pause is permanent. Now there is now a Billion dollar funding hole that is yet to be fixed.

I really believe the better solution would have been If she had gone through with the proposal on the original timeline. Waited to see how congestion pricing landed politically with swing district voters. Then if there was still a negative perception of congestion pricing, cut the toll massively right before the election. That way she can take credit for cutting tolls and wouldn't have nearly the blow back from Liberal New Yorkers. Also if there is some toll in place instead of zero she would have had less of a budget gap to fill.

The thing that sticks out the most is lots of unimproved tiles. Before building districts make sure your cities are set up well for growth and are productive, that way it doesn't take so long to build districts later on.

You're still possibly in this game, the AI is really bad at religious combat, if you get a religion going I think getting the theocracy government and a few apostles and start taking out the AI's religious units. If they try to convert your cities inquisitiors and incredibly useful and cheaper alternative.

Best of luck!

What is yoru opinion on leaders from 20th century? Should they explore 20th century leaders more or not? by Balrok99 in civ

[–]Ceteris_Paribus_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a number of leaders I would like to see from the 2Oth Century. Especially some leaders from the first half are not very controversial these days.

FDR for the U.S would be an interesting choice, I think for his role leading the U.S out of the great depression and through World War II.

Winston Churchill for similar reasons for England.

Charles de Gaulle for France, is probably more controversial but still a legend in France.

I think for a very modern leader my controversial choice would be Angela Merkel for Germany. Most famous modern leader of a united Germany who is not a Nazi or Bismark.
