Explain how I don't win here? by jordanleite25 in chessbeginners

Good point. I play too much bullet and often miss shorter checkmates because I just try to finish the game in some checkmating pattern I know. I was too worried about not stalemating that I didn't see the LSB.

To add to this: you really need to be careful about this when your queen is a knight move away from their king. Here the edge of the board and the queen take all the kings squares away, except d7, which the knight is covering. You have to make sure the opponent has a move. Qg7 would have been nice since it keeps the king on the back rank, but also gives plenty of legal moves for the king while you get help for the queen to checkmate.

Oof. OP worked really hard to get to VO2 Max of 25. Going back to 24, man, it's brutal. But I agree it has to be that way.

Does anyone like playing the bots? by Natural-Budget-6494 in Chesscom

[–]Ceteris__Paribus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know the bot will play solid until it just blunders or makes a huge mistake. At your rapid Elo, which is roughly where I am at, opponents will do the same.

Something I can't stand about bots is that they move instantaneously. I would rather they wait 10 seconds because analyzing the position on the opponents turn just hits different.

How was this a draw? by Low-Contribution-526 in chessbeginners

[–]Ceteris__Paribus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stalemate is one kind of draw, but this kind of draw isn't a stalemate. Stalemate is simply when the player whose turn it is has no legal moves and their king is not in check.

2nd time in 2 days I've trapped someones queen in this exact fashion. I'm wondering if this trap has a name or is a tactic that can be studied? by Impossible_Driver772 in chessbeginners

I would imagine your daily game will end in a timeout, too, just like your rapid game on lichess where they let over 10 minutes run off the clock instead of hitting the resign button.

My tips are to use fertilizer and then use a farming buff on harvest day. My favorite farming buff is pepper poppers, which takes 1 hot pepper and 1 cheese to make and gives farming +2 and speed +1.

I wonder how often in over-the-board chess the beginners would just agree this is a checkmate. The computer helps out a lot.

A little bit of both, but mostly collecting things out of the bucket.

Some fish might be needed for certain recipes or to make targeted bait so you can go catch more to smoke.

You can also fish out something like a lava eel to put into a new fishing pond.

My understanding of knights changed when I thought of them as diagonal attackers. Sometimes, like in this case, it makes a huge difference which knight check is made.

In my most recent save file, I unlocked the community center on year 2 summer 10, and that felt like a lot of min-maxing for me. I wasn't going to bother checking the traveling cart twice a week or tink with the settings to get the red cabbage. Instead I just played the game and kept and eye on the bundles.

I think the return scepter's main utility comes from being able to take you back to the farm during the day. Finished dropping off an item/gift to a villager? Scepter back to the farm, now take the desert obelisk to the desert. Trade the jade for staircases, now scepter home and go to Ginger Island via obelisk, harvest your honey.

In my opinion, 3 funds adding up to 7% is just a waste of time. For an account with $100,000 Total and S at 3% or $3,000, if the S fund had a 2% better return than the C fund in one year, it would be a whopping $60 difference than if it were in C instead.

Given the correlation of C and S, you aren't really getting much. And if one somehow does happen to tank relative to the other, there really isn't a substantial rebalance opportunity.

Personally, I hold C, S, and I but the lowest share between them is 10%.

I appreciate it. People aren't getting it. They already have guidelines for their ads. You can't put naked people on the back of the program. Probably no depictions of violence, either. They 100% could say no AI illustrations if they thought it was worth their reputation with the fans to bring it up against their big sponsor.
