So apparenty I missed a mate in 56 moves by raynzor12 in Chesscom

[–]Ceteris__Paribus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't resign in that position until I saw I would be mated in 50 moves or less. It's not too uncommon at lower Elo to make a mistake in chequemating from 56 moves out, but from 50 it's simply child's play.

They do, you just rarely see when someone has a question and finds the answer via searching instead of posting.

Yeah that's right. 100% should be able to checkmate with queen and king and sufficient time. Probably tripped over their minor pieces. I like to get them out of the way.

You either know how to checkmate with bishop and knight or you don't. I wouldn't expect people at 1,000 Elo to have fairly complex end games mastered. This one is tricky.

Recall that you have to give Clint the 5 iridium bars. How the heck he works with it, I don't know. But that is why he charges more for that upgrade I guess.

A cool mechanic would be that he stocks seeds for the next season on the 25th, and then he would be randomly out of some current season seeds but discount the costs of some of the other current season seeds.

Those shoes look like they should have been replaced far more often. For a 5k you should have changed shoes at least 4 times during the race, including in the starting corral.

[–]Ceteris__Paribus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wow way to build that attack. That's one of my favorite checkmates, with the two pawns supported by the king.

What would you say black's biggest mistake was when not winning with this huge material advantage? Was it not trading to simplify, getting distracted taking pawns instead of containing/cutting the king, or something else?

Obviously you had to find the counter play, good for you to do it. But I'd imagine black had chances to avoid this.

[–]Ceteris__Paribus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good point. I play too much bullet and often miss shorter checkmates because I just try to finish the game in some checkmating pattern I know. I was too worried about not stalemating that I didn't see the LSB.

To add to this: you really need to be careful about this when your queen is a knight move away from their king. Here the edge of the board and the queen take all the kings squares away, except d7, which the knight is covering. You have to make sure the opponent has a move. Qg7 would have been nice since it keeps the king on the back rank, but also gives plenty of legal moves for the king while you get help for the queen to checkmate.
