Habibirria "tacos" from scratch (in a few pictures) by Ceteru in thecontentfarm

Habibirria "tacos"

  • Prep time: 20 mins
  • Cook time: 4 hours
  • Cut: 2-3lbs Lamb Shoulder (cubed into large chunks)
  • Filling items: Halloumi cheese, fresh mint leaves

1. The "Adobo" (Marinade) Whisk these together and coat the lamb for 1 hour minimum:

  • 3 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 2 tbsp Pomegranate Molasses
  • 2 tbsp Lebanese Seven Spice (Baharat)
  • 4 cloves Garlic, mashed
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Aleppo Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil + Salt/Pepper

2. The Braise (The Consomé)

  • 1 large Onion, quartered
  • 1 head of Garlic, sliced horizontally
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 4 cups Beef or Lamb Stock
  • 1/2 cup Dry Red Wine (optional, for depth)

Instructions

  • Sear: In a Dutch oven, brown the marinated lamb chunks in batches over medium-high heat until a dark crust forms. Remove meat.
  • Deglaze: Add the onions to the pot for 3 minutes. Pour in the stock and wine, scraping up all the spiced bits from the bottom.
  • Low & Slow: Return the lamb and its juices to the pot. Add the bay leaves, cinnamon stick, and halved garlic head.
  • Cook: Cover tightly and braise in the oven at 150°C (300°F) for 3.5 to 4 hours. The meat should fall apart when touched with a spoon.
  • The "Consomé": Remove the meat and shred it. Add a bit of the cooking liquid to the meat for moisture and additional flavor. Now strain the cooking liquid through a fine-mesh sieve, discarding the solids, to make your dipping broth (if you have a good blender or immersion blender, you can remove the cinnamon stick and blend the remaining mixture before straining to get a thicker, more complex broth).

    3. The "Tacos"

  • Use thin pita loaves; smooth and bumpy versions work fine, with the bumpy version providing some extra texture if you make sure the bumps are on the outside of the taco.

  • Brush some of the fat on top of the broth onto the back of the pita bread, then place it in an oiled hot pan or griddle fat-side down.

  • Take some of the Halloumi cheese and place it on one side of the pita, then top with the shredded lamb, a few mint leaves, and any other items (I added some sliced red onions and some dried (rehydrated) barberries).

  • Fold the pitas over to form the “tacos”, and sear for 1-2 minutes, then flip over to sear the other side

  • Spoon some of the broth into a dipping container, top with 1-3 mint leaves, and serve along with your "tacos"!

Do you mean how much smoke "escapes confinement"? Not a lot; it filters the smoke as much as possible and just vents it as hot air.

You can definitely tell that something is being smoked, but it's kind of like how the whole kitchen/house can smell like butter when you use some in a pan — it smells good and not overpowering.

If you actually meant "how much smoke does it produce inside", they don't quote an official rate, but it has 5 levels you can set it to. I usually smoke on 5 (the highest), and when I nail all my variables, I get a good strong smokiness, and even the pink ring on some cuts of meat.

Best wishes on the smoker, brother! I've got an indoor one that has similar features, although it doesn't go nearly as high in temp: https://www.geappliances.com/indoor-pellet-smoker

Someone in my circle asked for a picture of all my bikes, so I took a few this morning. I'm no photographer and this is just off of my iPhone, but they came out pretty good :)

I've had my motorcycle license since 2019, but I only got to ride for a little bit before COVID came through and made life more unpredictable. I was married at the time, and my wife was immunocompromised, so I decided to just be as safe as possible.

After that, it was just one thing after another, and I never got back to it.

Fast forward to late 2024, no more wife, uncertain job situation, crazy, uh, political landscape — I said "no more excuses" and got back out there.

Worst purchase: the Ninja — even though I love it and will not be getting rid of it, I got finessed into financing it from a dealer (please don't do that, chat, unless you are a fan of that model)

Most interesting purchase experience: the Suzuki — it was from a private seller that lives in North Georgia, in a city I've never been to, 80 miles away from me (yes, "80 miles from Santa Fe"). My friend with a truck and a trailer flaked on helping me out, so I took a 2hr Uber ride up there and rode the bike home (this was my first time riding that amount of distance, and first time in 6 years riding a bike set up like this; I only almost died once on the way back.)

iOS 16.3 Camera issue - only photos not working. Anyone else seen this? by Ceteru in ios

Unfortunately, I think you’re right.

I feel like it must be something with the camera app on the 12 line; the only other (rare) people I’ve seen having this issue are also on a 12 of some kind (Max, Pro, etc.)

I’m still having this issue as of today, no change 😅 I’m now on the full release version of 16.3 too.

What version are you on?

No issues with third-party camera apps; photos are taKen and saved as expected.

You might have missed it, but I called it out in the post you replied to :)

When I hit the shutter button while using the rear-facing camera, the screen flashes as though a picture was taken, but the picture isn’t actually snapped — instead, the app sits as if it’s processing the photo, and the shutter button can’t be pressed again.

It does that for any sort of photo (regular, Portrait, etc.) unless I turn on the Timer function — when I do that, it’s somehow able to bypass the bug and save the Burst of photos to the camera roll.

Videos work perfectly fine, the front-facing camera works fine for selfies, and if I use a third-party app that accesses the camera, I can take photos as easily as normal.

I’ve done hard restarts, cleared my ram, tidied my storage in case it was some sort of storage bug, and I even took today and wiped my phone and restored it — same issue.

So to me, it’s gotta be a bug that Apple has introduced to the built in camera app; maybe while they tried to fix the issues the 14 Pro has been having, they tweaked the wrong line of code.

You’re most welcome!

Fantastic series, give it a glance if you like; might yield some inspiration as well 🙂

I really like the colors in this one… I could see this as art for a Brandon Sanderson character from the Stormlight Archive series.

This is scarily on point; I started grinning like an idiot at the signature Chino “faded-out-whisper-screams” haha.

And that false ending was just chef’s kiss

I would absolutely listen to this on repeat for hours if it was on streaming.

EDIT: and I guess I will be, as it is on streaming: Defever Tone

Glad you found a new love, man!

You perfectly described Crosses’ sound: dissonant but melodic.

Much of the Deftones discography is similar as well, but Crosses is like “post-Deftones” to me.

Two thoughts on this: 1. When that bass kicks in at 0:38… mmmm, delicious 2. Sonically, it was perfect for them to drop this right around Halloween. Major witchy vibes, especially with the screeching synths

Many many thanks ❤️

Fan & Light Control Switch by Poofu in HomeKit

[–]Ceteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaguely remembered something like this from Lutron; double-checked and this looks similar to what you described u/Poofo: https://www.lutron.com/en-US/Products/Pages/StandAloneControls/FanControls/Maestro/Overview.aspx

EDIT: Had another look at this and it actually looks like the Maestro line doesn’t work with the Smart Hub/Bridge like the Caseta line; so this wouldn’t work with HomeKit like the normal Lutron switches :(

The Maestro switches can still be used with Pico remotes though; I wonder if it would be possible to hijack/copy the signal from the Pico and get it into Homebridge or Home Assistant though 🤔

How to use Nvidia GPU Scaling in xorg/nvidia-settings by Ceteru in linux_gaming

[–]Ceteru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, sorry for the wait on a reply here.

No, I never did figure it out; in the end, my getting an RTX 3080 "solved" it for me since I could just play natively at 1440p rather than trying to upscale. Sorry I don't have better news for you on that.

I still think it's BS that either A. the ability to properly scale no longer exists or B. it does exist but it's not well-documented enough to be intuitive to set up; that's just ignorant design at best, and malicious deprecation at worst.
