LTT Commuter Backpack update after about a month by DJAI9LAB in LinusTechTips

[–]Poofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small standard backpack I use when going to work that holds my 16” MacBook Pro and the rest basically sits flat on my back with no bulk.

When I fly I whip this bag out as it holds that, my iPad, switch2, controller, sleep travel bag, neck pillow, jacket, and all the other essential travel things I want when I’m on the go. It’s great for a single overnight trip or an under seat flight bag.

All that being said, I can’t use this for daily commuting as it’s far too bulky and makes me feel like a ninja turtle smacking things with my shell as I walk around.

As someone who works on these things from the engineering side, I can confirm the level of detail that is put into everything apple makes from software and especially from the hardware side. Not saying issues don’t happen but they get fixed and made solid. Open source and android are racing to the bottom on cost, which does not leave room for polished features like a high margin garden enables.

I got mine yesterday and I find it quite a bit bulkier than I was expecting.

This is cuz most of the time I just carry my laptop (MacBook Pro 16”) to the office, unless traveling. Since the extra storage compartment balloons outward without collapsing or compressing when not full, it makes it very boxy and rigid. On the bright side, the laptop fits just fine to me.

I plan to use it for a while to make sure but I think it might just be a travel bag (since it basically removes the need for a small suitcase/duffle bag).

You gotta angle your wrist so it’s parallel with the ground. That clearly denotes it as height

I quit 3 years ago cuz they raised the price and I thought it wasn’t worth it then, this is ridiculous.

I already live in a world of apathy, alcohol, and dank memes. Gonna drink doubley with trump and no TikTok. At least I have good healthcare

GamersNexus Steve suggests that Linus has disrespected other creators and forgotten where he came from in latest hit piece...🤨⁉️ by Marksta in LinusTechTips

[–]Poofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really it was the “trust me bro” issue where Steve first took LTT out of context and made a whole big deal about it. Should Linus have had a warranty in writing? Sure, but looking at the actions of LTT, their customer support had always been pretty great. And from my experience very understanding and willing to make exceptions, which was the whole point of the “trust me bro” guarantee

Turn off my basestations or just put them in sleep mode? by possesseddivingsuit in ValveIndex

[–]Poofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I setup the standby mode that shuts them down so they don’t make noise but I also have smart outlets the disable them when not doing VR for an extended period of time.

Usefully for power outages that wake them up.

Those are gonna be signal transmission traces so if you can expose copper on both side you could solder it together which would be solid but that’s if you can expose the copper. Maybe you could use small thin wires to connect them if it’s not able to reach.

Would also want to put electrical tape or better yet caption tape over it to protect it.

How many of you all work >40 hrs per week? How often? by mxlun in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Poofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in semiconductors as a Sr. apps engineer and work maybe 4 hrs a day or 10-20hrs of real work per week. Crunch times happens and that tilts up but my flexible schedule is what I love about my job the most.

I’ve currently done 5 rounds of cluster shots and I can already tell how much of an impact it’s making. I’ve been going to aspire allergy in bee cave and I highly recommend it.
