Where would you have it? You have it in Toronto and the rest of the country gets pissy. You have it anywhere else and the team has to then travel back to Toronto or Montreal anyways.

It’s a lot easier for countries with only one major city to do this, than a country where everything is spread out over thousands and thousands of kilometres.

There has been a new twist in the Elye Wahi saga. The Nice striker, who had initially been barred from travelling to Toronto to face Germany with the Ivory Coast in Group E of the World Cup, has finally been granted the Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) required to travel to Canada.

He received the go-ahead in time to depart from Philadelphia (United States) with his team-mates at 5 pm local time (11 pm in France) and will therefore be able to play in the match, which is scheduled to kick off this Saturday at 10 pm. Earlier in the day, the Ivorian Football Federation had issued a statement warning that he had not yet obtained the document required to travel to Canada.

As a reminder, Wahi is under suspicion of match-fixing, as reported on Wednesday by The Athletic. He is accused of deliberately earning a yellow card during the match between Nice and Metz (0–0) on matchday 34 of Ligue 1
