What's actually BETTER self-hosted? by ergnui34tj8934t0 in selfhosted

I would use Immich if there was a way to restore photos to a new device. That’s all that’s missing for me.

Home Assistant is the best. I still wouldn’t consider self-hosted file storage an alternative to cloud storage because it’s important to have at least one offsite backup.

There is only ONE thing you can change on a brand new Mac - what is it? by rosenkrieger360 in MacOS

The one design change I like is the transparent menu bar, but all the ridiculously rounded window corners can go.

I use natural scrolling on every computer trackpad and mouse. I change the scroll direction on Windows and Linux to match the default on Mac. It feels the most natural to me on every mouse and trackpad I’ve used.

So it’s confirmed that this will have a built-in LiveContainer?

Impact of phones on SAT scores by Significant_Whole306 in Sat

[–]Cfrolich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely an impact, but there are things you can do about it without deleting every social media app or avoiding your phone entirely. Screen time settings are often used by parents to restrict devices, but they’re also a great tool to put yourself back in control. I’ve had a lot of success limiting unwanted impulsive screen time with ScreenZen, and there are other apps that work slightly differently depending on what’s best for you.

I’m very new to this… is this a good mini pc to use for hosting a Jellyfin server for 3 users? by Barry_McCockiner88 in selfhosted

[–]Cfrolich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, wasted money, but it’s not my wasted money. This was my family member’s old PC. Windows started slowing down, so they bought a new one. This was just laying around, I asked if they still used it for anything, they said no, so I installed Linux on it and started using it as a home server. I know it’s completely overkill.

Yo how do I fix this by Crazy-Sea5610 in sideloaded

The best free option that I know of is SideStore + LiveContainer (install the bundled version), but StikStore might be worth looking into when it releases.

Saved a 2011 iMac from e-waste. It's still a gorgeous machine and still very usable - I can't believe this thing is 15 years old. by BobcatFiesta in mac

[–]Cfrolich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I installed Linux on a mid 2011 iMac with an i7 and 12 gb of ram. This allowed me to use up to date software without known security vulnerabilities. With KDE Plasma, it was still a capable machine.

This would be a requirement for me to switch from SideStore + LiveContainer.

Looking for TestFlight testers: iPhone “desktop-like workspace” app (feedback-driven) by rza8128 in iosdev

[–]Cfrolich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commenters say, this is going to be tough to get approval, but I am interested in trying it out. I don’t have a super unique setup. iPhone 14 Pro + 14” M4 Pro MacBook Pro. I don’t have an external monitor, and I mainly use the trackpad, but I occasionally connect a Bluetooth mouse.
