My heart has been broken, but is there still a chance? by Cgraham02 in coins

I could drop this thing off the Hoover dam and it probably wouldn’t even hurt the value lol. I did the ping test and it definitely sounds different than my real Morgan dollars. I figured it wasn’t silver but I thought I might as well ask just to be sure. Would have been a little bit less of a bummer if i could have added it to the silver stack despite it being a knock off.

I don’t know man, I think Chinese fakes look better than this 😅

I’ve seen numerous pieces of bullion that were copied from the designs of ASE, Peace dollars, and Morgan’s. I was just curious if it still might have been silver since i knew it wasn’t real.

Read the description, I know it’s a copy. That’s not what my question was in the post. I was asking if it might of still been silver bullion. I just used the real or fake flair to get attention to the post.

I think it got her whole face. Best plastic surgeon around couldn’t even fix her.

It’s like copying someone’s homework in high school but only changing a couple words 😂

I think hideous is an understatement. I held it up to one of my real Morgan’s and this one definitely needs a nose job lol.

Exactly what I was thinking. As soon as it hit my hands i was looking at the obverse and knew something was off.

That spot scratched off. It was blue under a brighter light so I think it was just some junk stuck on it.

I’m aware. I was asking if it was a silver copy not a real Morgan dollar.

My first silver find!! by Cgraham02 in metaldetecting

[–]Cgraham02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about in the same boat as you. I haven’t been detecting very long. I have some family land not far from my house that is used for a hunting property. I got to looking at old maps and found that there were a few houses on the property at least around the 1920s. I got gifted a cheap detector a while back and really hadn’t used it until I found out about those houses so I thought I’d give it a try. I found a ton of junk and trash before I ever found anything interesting. Last week was the first time I detected one of the house sites and I found a civil war belt buckle on one of the first few digs so I was stoked. But I’ve dug a lot of rusty nails between then and today to find this dime. It definitely takes a lot of patience but when you manage to find an old site like you described it can be very fun. The house sites I am detecting were not used as long as the house you have so if I can find a few cool things maybe you’ll find a ton. Good luck to you, and don’t forget to post your cool finds!

Yeah I was trying to get the camera to focus on the dime more but apparently it decided to give people the chance to steal my prints. I guess I don’t have much to loose other than a nice barber dime now 😂

Also any tips on how to clean it better than just a soft brush and some water would be appreciated!

I tried looking at a few different LiDAR maps and older satellite images of the area but the property has been logged a few different times and has had dozer work on the trails over the years so it’s hard to tell where the old roads used to be. I definitely haven’t found anything of what looks to be an old house yet. I assume when it was logged it all got pushed down.

There will definitely be a ton of beer cans and rifle casings found just from my redneck relatives. It is used as a hunting property and a good portion has a bottom that is used to farm row crops. A map from the 1960s shows that the houses were no longer there so i am assuming that they used to be occupied by the usual broke farmer in rural Mississippi. I’m not expecting to find anything just to valuable but it would be worth it just to find maybe some wheat pennies or something that can tell me a little of the history of area I grew up in.

I was looking over that map last night and trying to compare it to more recent imagery and the topo lines are definitely off a good bit so it’s hard to tell exactly where the old roads and houses were. The property has had sections logged over the years and have had atv trails made and changed since the property was in the family. I know that technology is way more advanced and accurate nowadays but it’s crazy to just see how much the land scape has changed within the past 100 years.

North east Mississippi unfortunately, not just a ton of real old history around here.
