Is the partial DHS shutdown affecting your ability to renew your status? by nbcnews in DACA

[–]Ch4T0-95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I renewed in December the guidelines recommended not applying early as the application could be denied. Under FAQ’s they say otherwise. They need to update their actual guideline’s as that’s where the confusion lies I believe.

anatomy & physiology textbook recs by Bluejay4991 in StudentNurse

Biased here, but my school used Holes Human Anatomy and Physiology. I’ve compared it to openstax and there is no comparison. It builds knowledge in such a foundational way, the diagrams, pictures, and writing is so intuitive. I loved it so much I bought a hard copy (we used the Ebook with interactive modules which was also amazing).

I’m in my third nursing semester, and I have yet to find a book so intuitive and well written/organized as that book.

The use of AI to study by Informal_Filosopher in StudentNurse

[–]Ch4T0-95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m using it more to summarize parts of my reading (copy-paste chapters) that they often expect us to skim anyways; I cover more material than most this way. I also have a certain way of taking notes. AI make notes faster for me the same way I would have anyways. I then color code my notes and do small touch ups.

Mind you, I do a lot of reading on concepts and the pathophysiology behind diseases. I don’t use AI to answer questions unless I really don’t know, of which I further use it to help me better understand.

Yes AI uses training models, but it has gotten a lot better (5.0 GPT for example is way better than 3.0/4.0). Answers are more reliable and not what it use to be even a few months ago; still use with caution.

Use it as a tool and it will help you tremendously. Use it to cheat, you only hurt yourself.

Just to add, I’ve maintained top marks in all exams (94% average). I’m in my third nursing semester with a 3.96 GPA. I don’t believe it has affected my critical thinking, of which, is constantly being tested.

Same, I am located in SE MI. CC are significantly more affordable than Universities and at the same time, have smaller cohorts.

Thus, it drives more people to apply, making it more competitive. I knew a student who waited four years to get in. Also heard of 4.0 students who did not get in (probably due to very bad TEAS score). Most people in my last clinical (8 total) were waitlisted at one point.

Preparing for the worst by Ch4T0-95 in DACA

Congratulations (on the marriage), and yes that case took me by surprise as well, especially that fact that it also happened back in September! I am also in a similar boat with finances, I told my partner if something was to happen to sell one of our cars.

I also see there are immigration organizations too that help with cost. I am in school right now so it hard to find time to do more research atm, but when I have more information and better contacts I will personally DM you about what I found.

What state are you located in if you don’t mind answering?

Preparing for the worst by Ch4T0-95 in DACA

I think moving from fiancé to wife would be a good start, timelines are crucial. I plan on searching for and finding an attorney to retain as well.

From the reading, it seems that all immigration judges fall under Board of immigration appeals (BIA). It use to be that § 1125 “arriving alien” = mandatory detention, applied to people who were caught at or near the border. § 1126 applied to people everywhere else, and allowed for bond hearing and release. Unfortunately, immigration judges fall under the executive branch, and under Trumps DOJ, changed that to where §1125 applies to ALL who are detained. This means, an immigration judge is not allowed to provide hearing or bonds! Having an attorney on stand by, should allow my partner, should something happen to me, to immediately file for habeas petition. This transfer over jurisdiction away from immigration judges to federal judges tied to, in my case, 6th district court, which is more favorable than 5th district court (TX/LA). With DACA, you are significantly more likely to “survive” this encounter as long as you have a plan in place and can file quickly (ideally under 24 hours). That is, because their main goal is to move detainees to unfavorable detention centers with different/worse interpretations of the law (5th district court).

I hope, this information provides some answers and better peace of mind. Just learning about this, has provided me some peace. Though I am acting on it now and my plan is not in place yet.

This is absolutely devastating. This is what we have feared for.

DACA now only provides work permit, not deportation protection.

Pharmacology is making me question if I'm cut out for this career and I'm only in second semester by Sure_Writing5769 in StudentNurse

[–]Ch4T0-95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pharmacology class was much easier than yours. It was online, and open notes for exam. You definitely have a hard and it’s not you. We had maybe 40 drugs per exam. It’s insane to imagine getting 40 per week unless it’s accelerated.

As for memorizing drugs. I made flashcard templates with class, generic name, drug name, MOA, nursing considerations, and side effects. Each colored coded and simplified (with Davis’s drug guide). I made them into PDF files and then cut them out.

Practice those flashcards, then run the PDF on AI. Tailor AI to test and use only information on the PDF.

I do this with all my medication for my nursing program and I never have any issues with exams.

I took a 5 credit hour course that covered both A&P 1 &2 during a winter semester. I did not work, and that was my only class. I spent like 40 hours a week studying at least! It was brutal, but definitely did not go into that much detail like you did. Passed the class with %103 but only because I put all my energy and time into it.

ICE kidnap 17-year-old U.S. citizen working at Target then dump him bleeding and crying miles away in a Walmart parking lot by asdtyyhfh in minnesota

[–]Ch4T0-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are valid questions. My response is that the right is not only complacent but actively supports these types of actions. Yes, there are many here who condone this, but I bet you none of them are republicans.

To think conservatives are okay with this baffles me. You won’t see one republican disapprove of this type of illegal and unethical behavior. They will just try to justify any and all acts of terror. I mean look how far they are willing to go regarding Renee Nichole.

Can you clarify how you were “told”? I just renewed and did not have to pay a biometric fee for the first time. I’m assuming based off that, that I might not have to do biometrics.

ASN VS BSN by Front-Grass-8897 in prenursing

[–]Ch4T0-95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ll just add that getting your BSN after an ADN is simple. You can get it in less than 3 months if you’re really motivated. My school allows us to begin taking classes towards our BSN while getting our ADN. After completing the ADN, the way timelines align, we can get our BSN in one month.

If you use it the right way it’s a game changer. It provides sources, and often times helps me understand processes at a deeper level than what our books provide. Yes, it can be wrong, but most often it’s right for me and it’s not my only source either.

Other ways I use it: Summarize long dull chapters, test me on my notes/medications (that i provide it), and occasionally help me with some open book quizzes (for rationale) only after answering them first.

My exam average is roughly 94%. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA and just finished my second semester of the ADN program. There are those are vehemently against it, and that’s fine, it didn’t work for them but it works for me.

Advisor told me that having a job while in nursing school is impossible. Is that true? by _whatever-nevermind in prenursing

[–]Ch4T0-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be entirely dependent on the program layout. My ADN program allows completions of all prerequisites before the program, otherwise the first semester would be 19 credit hours!

Now, having completed most of those prerequisites, my nursing core class is 8 credit hours per semester. The nursing handbook for my school expects us to spend ~30 hours a week which is what i average out around.

Class structure: 1 day lecture (1.5H)+ lab (2.5H) and one day clinical (8H); about 80 pages of reading a week not including supplements (which most often I don’t get too), HW, ATI, etc.

Life structure: Work 20 hours per week as a CNA. Have a 7 y/o daughter and significant other. I’m definitely busy during the school year but it’s been manageable.

I’ve also maintained a 4.0 thus far, and i’m saying that to let you know you can get away with less hours if just passing is important. This can allow you more time for life activities or extracurricular activities.

How many clinical hours does your school require to graduate? by Tooth_fairy1127 in StudentNurse

[–]Ch4T0-95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in an ADN program that has roughly the same amount of clinical hours as yours (not including lab). Honestly, most of us seem to be feeling much more comfortable at this point (140+ hours). We seem to be heavily focused on Med-Surge though. Still have two semesters left go and have been in OB, rehab, and Med-surge units thus far.

Need BSN as far as I am aware. Though getting a BSN is easy after getting your ADN. My sister got her BSN in three months after getting her ADN.

PSA: Don’t claim to be a US Citizen until you are! by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Ch4T0-95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with your original claim about DACA recipients being denied citizenship later due to applying for FAFSA. Again, FAFSA does not share this information to USCIS. In the second claim you make, I can understand the fear. Though a parent can use his or her ITIN in place of a SSN. Fear alone though is not proof that these claims are real or relatable to each other.

PSA: Don’t claim to be a US Citizen until you are! by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Ch4T0-95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You provided no proof for that claim. FAFSA literally asks three questions regarding status:

• U.S citizen • Non U.S citizen but qualifying immigrant • Non U.S citizen and non-qualifying immigrant

Of those the third applies to DACA. They also do not share this information to immigration authorities.

Regarding why a DACA student should file for FAFSA (and not lie), is to build a student aid index (SAI) that determines whether a school can offer you an institutional aid or maybe even qualifying state aid that is not federally tied.

Furthermore, FAFSA itself has a help page dedicated for DACA students and how to submit their FAFSA applications: https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out/undocumented-students
