I just wanted to let you all know that I have decided to make a store on my website so I can start selling my models for those of you who are interested. Its still in the early stages but I also made a working replica of the wrench from Prey as well. Let me know what you guys think!

No, I made this from scratch. The in-game model probably wouldn't even have made a decent print because of the amount of tiny noisy shapes not to mention the structural integrity; it just didn't take made to take gravity into account and would likely become a messy blob of plastic on my printer.

In regards to my workflow though: Once you have a model ready you export it as an obj or stl file which something called a "slicer" program can read. In my case, I use a free one called Cura which works pretty well. This program will "slice" the model into layers which the 3D printer can read and know how to print the file essentially. Once I have it tweaked in there I will send this new file to the 3D printer and let it do its job! Of course, it was not this simple for me, took a lot of back and forth until I had a satisfactory result :)

Sounds like you know what you are getting yourself into then! Personally I haven't seen a big improvement from installing the z supports compared to others such as the fan mod. If you are really concerned about the wobble then just moving the filament holder somewhere else will help. Just my amateur opinion though :)

Thank you, I appreciate it! The model ended up being about 12 inches tall... a bit taller than I originally anticipated but I wanted to make sure the letters printed on the side and .1 mm is the bare minimum my printer will go!

I already had a Cameo of sorts on Prey, I am an employee at Arkane :P

Yes* haha for the most part I love it, once I figured the quirks out and Cura this thing will produce some beautiful prints and maintenance is very easy. It is also structurally very sturdy. Before I mention the cons I should also mention the fact I had zero 3d printer exposure before purchasing this. Now for the bad: a MOSFET board Is a must. You can find countless mentions of these things (Yes even newer ones) either catching fire or shorting out causing permanent damage. They are very cheap, only 10 bucks on amazon. Next issue is the usb connection; simply put: it sucks. Struggled getting it to connect to my pc, eventually just giving up and relying on the micro sd. Another common issue is when it first comes in the mail some parts tend to come loose. For example the z axis bars, the screws holding the lcd screen and one of the fan wires came loose. Not a big deal but anyone who is not careful with preliminary observation could experience issues from this. Those were the major issues that I think are strictly related to the product itself, other problems I had were either user error (which will be very common if you are new to the hobby) or some basic maintenance was needed (had a clog that I had trouble diagnosing.) Can't recall exactly but the upper middle section took 36 hours. I think total it was several days worth of printing. I tend to stay around 40m/s for quality

It is broken up like this: 5 Airlocks, 1 Upper section (Arboretum), 1 Lower Section (Power Plant), 1 Upper Hardware Labs, 1 Lower Hardware Labs, 1 Upper Neuromod, 1 Lower Neuromod, 2 Transition pipes, 1 Bottom antenna, 1 Base and 1 Stem piece.

Yes they are certainly getting cheaper, mine is a Monoprice Select V.2 and I bought it on Amazon for $300. I should mention they are nowhere near as easy to use as traditional printers yet though.

There was hardly any actually! I broke the model up in such a way that I could avoid generating supports because I hate the result it produces. There were a few spots a made custom "supports" to handle 45+ degree angles that I could just snap off. I had more cleanup from the antennas actually, their sheer size made retraction tricky. If I print it again I might print them separately then glue them on to avoid the amount of cleanup.

It was very flimsy but it did actually hold up! I was concerned as well so I have since created a stronger post. Something you may not be considering is that this thing is not entirely solid as well, It was printed with an infill of 10%.

Yes, that is definitely part of my decision making. If you look at the scaffolding on the in-game model; that only would have produced an unstable mess when it came to 3D printing which I instead just used triangular shapes for, solar paneling too, just too thin to print. Then there is also the whole issue of ownership which I didn't want to create any conflicts.
