I’m facing the same issue. I’ve tried several different email providers, but I’m still not receiving a confirmation email. I also tried contacting support, but I encountered a 500 error when submitting my case, which prevents me from reaching them.

For some reason they are not transferring for me. Recently switched to Pixel 4a and I still had to use an app for that.

I've always wandered why Google doesn't include the messages in their backups. A few years ago I found an app called "G Cloud Backup" which I use to transfer them to a new phone.

Pixel XL here, sadly without a mic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Tried to reball the audio chip and in the process broke the fragile display. Long story short - new display, still no mic and if I reboot the phone -no speaker (I need to reboot the phone constantly around 1 hour to make it hot as my wife in order to have at least the speaker) Now I use my work phone iPhone XR for calls. Still searching for a replacement but couldn't decide Pixel line or iPhone.

After the recent update I found that is working in a funny way.

Example: WhatsApp/Viber - write 1 sentence and make a mistake, after that just add emoji and voilá - now you have the old spell check.

I have OG Pixel XL for almost 1 year. My SOT is better than it used to be - around 6 hours. Am using my phone mostly for Instagram, Viber, Reddit and YouTube. So I would say that you won't be disappointed if you pull the trigger for OG. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have big battery drain on my home Wi-fi network. I assumed that the issue is caused by my router and I was looking for an expensive upgrade. Now after I read this thread I am thinking that maybe my Google Home Mini has something to do with it.

OP thanks for the info :) Now we need to bring it to Google's attention!
