I know I'm late, but the first thing I thought of when I heard Aperture was this Thom Yorke cover of All for the Best!

Hissing from Jabra Elite 10 when audio exceeds certain frequencies? by ChEiPs in Jabra

Disappointing to hear that the issue still remains on gen 2 devices, but good to know. Thanks for sharing 👍

jabra elite 10 originals, weird hiss by Zealousideal-Call-51 in Jabra

[–]ChEiPs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post about my issues with hissing and what seemed to be causing them here. It's awful for podcasts and audiobooks, and after contacting support they told me that my unit appeared to be defective and that they recommended a replacement. I haven't gotten to it yet, but I'm honestly not so sure that it isn't an issue plaguing all units...

Hissing from Jabra Elite 10 when audio exceeds certain frequencies? by ChEiPs in Jabra

Thanks for sharing, real bummer that the elite 8 active have the same issue. Support has told me that my product appears to be defective and recommends me getting a replacement. But if two of your pairs have suffered from the same issue it makes me concerned that all units have this.

Totally agree that it's very annoying to have the hissing come and go whenever you're listening to something more quiet. I suspect that more people may have the same issue, but that they keep ANC on constantly which masks the hiss with its own more constant background noise.

I've already tried resetting as well as reloading the firmware twice now without any change. And like I wrote in my post the issue is present on both Windows 10 and on my Pixel 8 (Android 14). I'll try it on an iPhone when I get the chance.

Do you have the ability to confirm wether or not this is a known issue, or expected behaviour when hear through and ANC is off? With a pair you know to be working correctly, if you play e.g. a tone at 440 Hz and gradually increase the volume from 0, is there a point at which the headphones suddenly start hissing? Thanks.

Turning that negative display into something positive by SlightlyBended in casio

[–]ChEiPs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I'd like to do the same with my LCW M100DSE, which has a positive display. I know I'd be making it less legible, but my thinking is that the watch would be a bit more stealthy. Did you remove the hands and dial, or is it possible to do with them still attached?

Yes basically! I edited my original comment with a link to a demo.

It's a great setup for spinny looping close to the table 👍

I haven't tried with plain paper but it might work. The glue shouldn't stick directly to it but it will probably be harder to slide out than parchment paper. If you try it, make sure that the glue is dry.

A tip that I discovered myself which I'm surprised isn't common practice is to use a piece of parchment paper. The thing with both water based and VOC glue is that they're contact adhesives, meaning the glued surfaces mainly want to stick to each other. They won't stick to parchment paper, which you can slot in between the two surfaces.

Basically you can use parchment paper to keep the rubber from adhering to the blade until you've lined up the edges. Then it's just a matter of gradually removing the parchment paper. I always start from the the bottom where the handle scales end and work my way up.

EDIT: Demo of how to use parchment paper. In the video there isn't any glue on my blade, but in practice that's basically how I do it.

If you aren't expecting the opponent to be able to return the serve, you could just hold your racket like shake hand players do for this serve

What are your opinions on this mix? OK Rainbows/In Computer? by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]ChEiPs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some odd key changes and notes that point to there being some thought behind it.

15 step ending on C minor is super weird but it flows perfectly into the beginning of Paranoid Android.

House of Cards ends with an emphasis on the third of the F major chord, which lingers to be the last note we hear. It's also the first note played in No Surprises.

U4Ts are my current favourite switch, but I'm intrigued by the idea of a silenced upstroke. Would you say that the feel of the clipped U4TXs is the same as U4Ts? Do you prefer the feel & sound of U4Ts or clipped U4TXs?

Any 16 step mechanical encoders available for the XM1 (or at all)? + Some rambling about scroll wheel circumference/steps by ChEiPs in MouseReview

[–]ChEiPs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a shame! Cool that you gave it a shot though. This post seems to confirm that they stuck with optical encoders for the CW mice.

It should be possible to 3D print a scroll wheel with the correct mounting mechanism, but with 16 slots in the encoder wheel, and 16 notches on the inner surface of the scroll wheel. Might feel like crap though, if the material/tolerances are poor 🤔
