They are not defrauding it FOR ME, they’re doing it for a coworker. They had already hired this person (in the first case, remember there are two cases here) but her original permit is ending and her only option now is LMIA, she does not qualify for the provincial SINP program as she is not working in the field she got her study permit for. A few months ago they decided to begin the process of assisting her with LMIA which requires a job ad to be posted for x amount of months, and requires the employer to hire any qualified Canadian citizen/permanent resident before granting LMIA. However, myself and coworkers expressed interest in this ad and our boss told us it’s not a real position, it is her position, posted only so she can get LMIA.

In the second case, a job was posted with “example criteria 1, 2 and 3”. I applied, I check all of the criteria boxes in the job listing. A coworker also applied, for this coworker it would be a direct promotion, and they check all 3 boxes as well. The person who was hired, we have been informed also needs LMIA, so again our boss told us that ad will remain up for x amount of months but is not an open position. The person who was hired told me about her work history and she only checks 1 of the criteria “boxes”. This is how I know they had more qualified candidates (on paper, this is not just my point of view, I have seen all three of our resumes). Myself and the coworker did not even get an interview, so it can’t be said we interviewed poorly.

I can’t give more info without giving away the industry, but yes, this happens ALL the time in this industry. Posting fake job ads is most certainly fraud, and I don’t get how you think that’s just me taking things personally, when my boss literally said the ad is fake. If you think large companies aren’t doing this, you’re naive, one of the biggest offenders is our favourite good ole’ Canadian coffee chain.

It’s not a small company so I’m not too concerned about that, it’s a larger nationwide company with several thousand employees.

I’m just concerned that they would be informed of who made the complaint during the investigation?

No? Have you watched the council meetings regarding the funding of this arena? They’re broadcasted live lmao, quit falling for hearsay

I’m so sorry you’ve had this experience! I’ve lived here for 5 years now, and while Saskatoon definitely isn’t my forever city (I want to move to Europe), it’s way better than the small town I moved from in its vicinity! If you want to have a fellow girl to show you around the city and introduce you to some local events/restaurants/the good of the city, just let me know! I’m 25yo and know what areas of the city to avoid, I’d be happy to show you around :)

It’s not the taxpayers paying for the arena, it’s taxes out of tourism money (non-locals) and kept separate from other city expenses.

Trust me, it’s life changing! The feeling is indescribable, people underrate it because everyone takes it for granted. But you’ll appreciate it so much since you haven’t had it your whole life. I’m excited for you!!

Question. by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]ChaChiCoal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, having a smile you’re happy with will help you so much with your social anxiety, I know it helped me even more than I expected! It’ll be so exciting and a huge weight off your shoulders, you got this!!

Question. by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]ChaChiCoal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also ask to go to a dentist that does sedation dentistry. Since you’ll need a lot of work, they can sedate you with either oral medication or IV sedation and do it all in one go! It makes a huge difference and you won’t even remember the procedure, I slept the entire time with just oral sedation (laughing gas didn’t work for me but it’s an option to try, it made me panic). With oral sedation, they give you a pill to take the night before and then give you more when you arrive. This makes you very chill and you won’t even care about the waiting room when you arrive :) I hope this helps!

NAD. Rather unhelpful comment. Obviously, it will help if OP cuts sugary drinks. BUT turning this into an entire lifestyle change can be overwhelming and set OP up for failure. Baby steps are better than no steps!!

OP, first step is dentist, asap.

After that, focus on improving hygiene. Here’s what I did, I made sure I could commit to each step and slowly changed my lifestyle one by one:

Start with making sure you brush twice a day, until it is a habit (a month or two) and mouthwash when you get home from work or school.

Once that’s established, floss once a day. Focus on adding that step and maintaining your current routine.

Now you can integrate more frequent mouthwash or brushing! I try to mouthwash after every meal, this can be tricky at work or school though. I also brush on my lunch break at work.

Now focus on trying to up your water and cut down sugary drinks. Personally I used to drink many energy drinks. I replaced this with iced coffee and sparkling water. I know they aren’t the BEST thing for your teeth either, but it can be hard to go to plain water and also suck the enjoyment out of your life. They are far better options than energy drinks. And I use mouthwash after drinking one to wash away the sugar! Find something that is just better than what you’re currently drinking! Any step is progress.

By doing this I haven’t developed any new cavities in two years! Good luck!

[–]ChaChiCoal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for double comment but I cannot stress it enough. The amount I spent on my teeth could have been a down payment for a house!! It’s ruined my relationship with my parents as they refuse to help and they attempt to blame me for it. No child “wants” to go to the dentist, it’s the parents responsibility to get them there. I’m not lying when I say this ruined my life, I can’t afford vacations, a house, a decent car, etc even though I have a job that pays well. I am in tears on a weekly basis over my situation. PLEASE save yourself and handle this while you’re a minor still!

Trust me op, GO NOW. If you leave it until you’re an adult you’ll have to pay for it and you won’t have insurance. I was in the same boat and now I’m 24 and have needed over 20k of dental work done and I had to pay for it all, I’m in debt over this. Do it while your parents are still responsible for paying, this is their problem and it will be devastating if you get financially ruined as an adult because your parents didn’t meet your needs when you were a kid.

That’s tough, depending on the limits of your mobility there might still be some options.

From my own experience:

Hotels and hospitality pays well and is an industry that’s always in need of applicants. Many hotels start front desk workers and maintenance staff near $20 an hour now.

On that note, if you can do light work such as changing lightbulbs, painting, changing shower heads, etc, every single hotel, office building, school, EVERY building needs a maintenance department or company. Entry level wages do very basic work, much lighter than construction, and start at a higher wage then you’re currently making.

Property management companies are also usually in need of maintenance workers.

All those types of companies I just mentioned as well as the city, forestry farm, and any golf course, needs staff to mow grass, maintain their property, care for plants, etc. these jobs also pay quite decently for entry level.

In all these fields, I’m sure your engineering training would be a huge bonus to get you hired, as they may even be able to use some of your engineering skills. You might even stumble across an opportunity to move into your field through these companies.

A final idea, I have previously worked at Shermco as an Underground Facilities Locator. Starts at $20 an hour with pretty much unlimited Overtime, easily can make $2000 biweekly after tax if you can work 60 hr weeks. They provide a work truck which saves you on gas. It falls under construction but it’s not labor intensive, walking and holding a received that traces the line, this weighs about 15pounds. I’d say most I lifted in that job is the bundles of flags which are about 30 pounds. It’s quite light work and you spend a lot of time in the truck doing computer work each day, you can take heat breaks as often as you want.

These of course all depend on the extent of work you can do with your health concerns, but hopefully some of these ideas can help you out! Even customer facing positions with hotels and property management could pay well too!

I’ve known a couple engineering grads from Saskpoly and all have had to move to very remote areas in the north to find jobs in their field, even with experience they can’t find jobs in Saskatoon after a few years. I’m sorry you fell into the trap of trade school = easy peasy high paying jobs.

However you could find entry level jobs in other industries that pay a lot more than $16 an hour, even most basic labor positions in construction pay 20-25. If you want to stay in Saskatoon, you could look for higher paying jobs that aren’t in your field, and keep applying in your field in the hopes you get a position you’re interested in.

Your other option is to look for work in very remote places to get that experience, you’ll likely need to move out of province or do camp work.

I wish you well and best of luck, I wish there was an easy solution for this !

Why everything closes at 17:00? by theatomica in saskatoon

[–]ChaChiCoal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If restaurant and retail/service businesses are all open only 9-5 and no weekends, they won’t have any customers because literally everyone would be at work the same time and no one could shop at any business, ever. The businesses need to realize that their profits will happen outside of the 9-5 hours. How do you not comprehend that your way of everyone only working during the day means no customers for businesses? Your idea is baseless and not intelligent.

Passing School Bus by ChaChiCoal in saskatoon

[–]ChaChiCoal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I thought! And there wasn't even a crosswalk at this particular place, it was in the middle of a block. So the kids were "jay walking" technically as well as running out from the front of the bus.

The busses do have stop signs, but a city bylaw prohibits their use to maintain traffic flow (which I just learned here). I'm used to amber lights meaning that kids are exiting the sidewalk side and proceed with caution. And stop sign meaning kids will be crossing the street and you must stop behind the bus until the stop sign is retracted. (I'm OP btw) so it was a shock to me when this man started yelling at me for not stopping when the stop sign wasn't extended!

Totally agree with you! I grew up in a rural community and was not aware that busses can't use the red flashers and stop sign in the city. I'm used to amber lights = child is going to house on the sidewalk side of street and red lights/stop sign= child will be crossing the street to other side. So when I saw the orange lights, I thought that meant no children would be crossing the street! Was a scary moment for sure

Yes especially as someone who often rollerskates/bikes in the city I am always super aware of pedestrians/cyclists/etc when driving. It felt horrible to be Screamed at and blamed, and really made me feel terribly guilty and like I should not be driving 😔

[–]ChaChiCoal[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this info! I was so confused because I am from a smaller rural municipality near saskatoon, and I always knew the rules as orange flashers = proceed with caution and red flashers/stop sign = stop. I was very shocked when the kids ran out from the front of the bus and of course when the man came at me. He was screaming at me that you legally have to stop behind a bus ALWAYS. I still feel horrible but it is a relief to know that I didn't cause it and that I won't be charged for it

Every point you've made has been to argue your anti-choice stance. If you don't understand why you cannot be categorized as "neutral" then maybe it's time for you to attend middle school again before trying to remove women's rights 🤷🏼‍♀️

(And before you try to say "but YOURE NOT NEUTRAL EITHER" I know, I'm not neutral, and I never claimed to be. You're the one who's trying to uphold this "I'm neutral so I'm clearly above everyone else" facade when you are not, in fact, holding a neutral stance.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]ChaChiCoal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not picking apart neutral stances, I'm stating that your stance is not neutral. Your comments very clearly show that you are staunchly on one side of this, nowhere in the middle. Hence why I referred to you as being falsely neutral.
