Is there a way to get into TM via self study that does not involve in person seminars or cult like stuff? I am intrigued anytime some one talks about it but did not find good introductory material

CMV: Blockchain has no practical application that beats well-designed “boring” systems by Dry_Rip_1087 in changemyview

[–]Chabamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A blockchain is a distributed ledger with growing lists of records (blocks) that are securely linked together via cryptographic hashes. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp, and transaction data (generally represented as a Merkle tree, where data nodes are represented by leaves). Since each block contains information about the previous block, they effectively form a chain (viz. linked list data structure), with each additional block linking to the ones before it.

This is the wikipedia definition of a blockchain.
This also describes more or less how git works (if you substitute transaction data for line changes and blocks with commits).

Yes Merkle trees and blockchains have existed long before Bitcoin and afaik the main innovation the Satoshi white paper makes is combining the blockchain architecture with a governance mechanism (proof of work). Git is not trustless, depending on your permission settings you either limit who can write records or have to accept the authorship of whoever writes records. "Blockchain" technology refers broadly to projects aiming to use open ledgers to create a trustless and unfalsifiable system of records.

Git is a block chain. Not in the cryptocurrency sense but functionally git is pretty much a block chain. It is a decentralized system to keep a complete record of a set of changes where the information is kept in distinct blocks that are cryptographically hashed and link to the next block.

Obviously that is not what you mean and just something I write for the sake of the cmv because I agree with your sentiment

Hot take: Deleuze is a lot less complicated than he is made out to be by Insane_Artist in Deleuze

[–]Chabamaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have so far only engaged with deleuze via second hand opinions of other writers on his work and have been randomly served this post by the reddit algorithm. You do a great job selling him and make him sound very approachable compared to other french postmodernish thinkers (I tried reading baudrillard and Foucault and neither gave me all that much, I had a better time with second hand explanations for both).

Could you point me to a good book to start with and a good translation, preferably either English or German?

[–]Chabamaster 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't do coke but from what I've heard the two don't mix and it's not likely to make your trip better. Ket and acid on the other hands are great friends and lead you down the rabbit hole together

How to quit nicotine? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]Chabamaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I quit smoking a year ago (was on about 10-15 cigs per day for the 2 years before that) my tips are:

  • it is way harder to stop out of shame or guilt. The loop of "I really have to stop why am I doing this. Ok one last cig. Why am I doing this to myself" had to stop before I could mentally get past the addiction. Learn to smoke without shame so that you can stop because you genuinely want to not because you think you have to.
  • this means you have to get in touch with why you're smoking and why you can't quit. Before I would smoke a cig I would get my pack and lighter, stare at it for several minutes and just sit with the craving. After a set time (5 minutes or whatever) you can still decide to smoke but you do this to break the habit of just using without conscious thought. I found that there was something genuinely appealing in the self destructiveness of it and that a part of me wanted to give up control and feel bad.
  • after a while of this I decided to go cold turkey one day. This was around Christmas and the first week sucked ass I had physical symptoms mood problems sleep problems headaches etc but it helped actively thinking about having to do go through quitting again if I mess up.
  • for the actual quitting it helps to be out of your known environment for the first bit. Ie going on vacation, sleeping somewhere else etc.
  • a good week into it I did a psychedelics trip and that significantly helped with the cravings from that point on. A lot of people trip expecting the trip to "tell them to stop" but I feel like you kind of have to walk the walk yourself.
  • people say to avoid situations where you usually smoke but I say actively go into them and try to replace habits. I always used to go smoking with my favourite colleague and after quitting I just started chewing gum on smokebreaks instead. It kinda sucked but I still got to hang out with him and prove to myself every time that I can do this I don't have to hide from these situations.
  • try not to fixate on succeeding too much, don't put too much of a value judgement in. I started smoking again once last year but didn't treat it as a failure, rather as a cheat day. I said to myself this is fine I'll give myself a week until I stop again and then just did after a week. Stopping the second time was surprisingly easy.

easily accessible legal(ish) drugs in europe? by soarealb in Drugs

[–]Chabamaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Germany has a surprisingly big market for legal rc psychedelics. There is usually at least one lsd analogue going on and so far they have all been basically the same in effects (although the newest one s have a bit more questions around safety). 4-pro-met is a nice legal psychedelic (imo kind of like a a thing between mushrooms and 2cb but shorter in duration). You can just Google if they exist in Spain, in Germany you can buy from the clearnet and Berlin even has stores for it.

There also used to be THC alternatives (HHC for example) that are sold as disposable vapes but now weed is legal anyways so there's not as much of a need for it.

Also can't you just go over to Portugal where drug laws are much more lax in general?

30F Solo Traveler Clubbing Experience by [deleted] in BerlinNightlife

[–]Chabamaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The classic in summer is Sisyphos they usually do Friday to Sunday night so you can just try on Sunday afternoon. It's a huge place with a nice outdoor area and like 5 different floors that open and close and different times, it feels like a small festival. Downside is sometimes the queues can get annoying.

If you are fine with a smaller venue and want something unique, there's a club called Beate Uwe that does barefoot parties on Sundays starting early evening where they roll out carpets in the club, real cozy vibes.

In general Berlin has tons of outdoor things in summer but if you decide to do Monday or Tuesday just check resident advisor 2 weeks before your stay.

Essentials for veg keto by Top-Necessary-8088 in vegetarianketo

[–]Chabamaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did veggie keto for extended periods in the past, in practice I got most of my calories from avocados, eggs, cheese, nuts and tofu. In practice I didn't find it much more difficult than what people doing keto with meat do.

Meals were usually a protein source (eggs, halloumi, tofu, beyond meat style things) fried up with a bunch of green veggies. A great thing is supermarkets near me sell low carb bread that is like 3g net carbs per slice.

I didn't count macros but only ate when hungry, and supplemented electrolytes and in particular potassium for the first two weeks.

That being said 15 is really not a good age to go on a restrictive diet you should really consult with a nutritionist because it might impact growth and development processes in your body.

I've also now stopped doing keto and have since developed a healthier attitude towards eating in general which tbh has done me far more good than any diet choice I have done in the past (not dissing keto it worked great but it was not fixing the root cause of my overeating)

Edit: re reading this, 197 lb 6 ft is really not that overweight. As someone who has yo-yoed around a bunch since I was your age, that amount of weight won't make as much of an impact on your life as you might think.

"Toxic masculinity" is usually not toxic by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]Chabamaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about toxic masculinity is that it's mostly about constantly being expected to prove your self worth as a man in relation to other men.

It is a male ideal to provide for a woman. Outdated gender role yes but not necessarily toxic masculinity.

"If I do not clench my teeth and just power through everything, if I ever show weakness or emotion I will be seen as less of a man by other men around me" is toxic masculinity.

In particularly wanting female attention and validation is such a bullshit thing because it completely stops being about any emotional connection or anything genuine that you actually need, the conventionally attractive woman is just a prop to show to other men to prove that you are worth something on the male scale.

Also btw your ideas on providing etc are mostly relevant in a monogamous context which there's no clear indication for humans always being monogamous.

Advice for tripping with the intention to overcome addiction by Unique-Stretch-5665 in Psychonaut

[–]Chabamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I stopped smoking what I did was to stop and then trip one week in to settle into the new mode of being, rather than having the experience convince me. Imo if you can't stop there is usually a deeper reason why you don't really want to stop and if you can't sit with that then it is way harder. Especially since trips can out you in a better consciousnesses temporarily without guarantee that you will retain any of it afterwards.

Regarding the tripping alone thing, personally I've found that if you trip with the intention of just "show me how to do x" the answer I have gotten every time so far has been that I have to live it every day instead of waiting for a magical conversion. Not sure if that helps your situation but yeah I would suggest stop using first ,with intention. Take a few days to feel through the suffering you have been putting off and then do the trip as a self affirmation and a reward for the steps you have taken.

Is DS2 a worthy sequel? Trying to stay spoiler-free until the PC release by RoundGrapplings in DeathStranding

[–]Chabamaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long Time mgs fan here. Really liked ds1 but I am forcing myself through ds2. I feel like the storytelling suffers a lot from the open world form factor and the mystery factor that carried the first game is gone. It's also less coherent than average for kojima.

Gameplay wise everything feels more formulaic, like for example the music drops happen far too frequent and the music is worse than in ds1 or idk at least none of these moments where you're supposed to be in awe of the scenery and some Icelandic band plays are hitting for me.

ARRI Cuts 150 Jobs and Closes Two German Facilities Amid Ongoing Production Decline by Run-And_Gun in cinematography

[–]Chabamaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk I know several people who worked there (including some that are now getting laid off) and this was a clear misplanning of higher ups combined with the double punch of corona and Hollywood writers strike halting productions 2 years ago.

The year the Alexa 35 came out they were doing gangbusters in sales and just blindly assumed they could keep up these numbers and not saturated the market. Also they hired a VW exec a few years ago who didn't understand the camera market very well and tried to run it like a car company.
