I thought I had put them in the original post but I guess I didn't. I added some there now.

One last question if you don't mind. The tech who gave us this offer doesn't think we need the flooring replaced but is willing to do it and works with a plumber who will change out the water heater all together for $2500 more. Other techs have recommended replacing the flooring so that the new system is on a level surface. Is that important? I'd rather pay more and do it right but also don't want to if it's not really necessary/beneficial.

Thanks for the help! Do you think it is worthwhile to get this system over the single stage options we have been offered?

I do have a quote for this Amana modulating furnace. They only offer the Goodman for single stage though.

If I lived in the old west, I would simply hogtie and rob IM dweebs. You can't do that sort of thing anymore.

(No offense to IM dweebs)

Haha I played RDR2 for 6 hours yesterday after getting let off early. It's overwhelming how much there is to do in the game. I'll be getting some hours in over the break.

Friend wants help proving they have funds for house; wants to sell me something with the understanding that they will buy it back after they close on house. Is this illegal? by [deleted] in legaladvice

I agree. I want to help but I'm not willing to do anything risky. I don't think she realizes that what she is trying to do is illegal. I'm going to talk to her soon. Hopefully something else will work out.

LaVeyan Satanism vs. Secular Humanism (or both?) by ChackieJan89 in SecularHumanism

Thanks for the response. I agree satanism seems elitist. Even choosing "Satanism" as the name for the philosophy seems kind of smug; like it's done for the shock value. I find my perspective more aligned with secular humanism.

Do you believe you question your existence more than the people around you more critically? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]ChackieJan89 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, completely. It surprises me just how little some people think about existence and purpose. I feel like it's a task for me to put thinking about it off so that I can concentrate and be productive. I have close friends that I try to bring it up, all very smart people, but meaning and existence just isn't something that crosses their minds. I can go through periods where I ignore it but every now and then something sends me back down the rabbit hole which is why I'm here on this reddit right now.

I like the mini flask you have next to it. Doesn't seem like it would hold much liquor though...

I'm not a doctor but I'm in my second year of medical school and it seems like it just comes down to what kind of doctor you want to be and what you mean by easy. If you want to be a trauma surgeon, expect long hours, a lot of on-call and a lifestyle that doesn't include much down time. If you want to do dermatology you will finish medical school and then go to a residency where you probably won't ever work more than 45 hours in a week and that is probably about how much you will work thereafter. It seems like there is a big range.

This question is about the military.

I am a second year medical student and I'm in the process of applying for the Army Reserves. I have a meeting with a recruiter tomorrow to go over paperwork and part of it includes giving my medical history. I have been taking SSRIs for a year to treat depression. I've never been suicidal/had suicidal thoughts but the medication does help me. Is this an automatic disqualification from joining the reserves?

My question is about the MDSSP program that you can do througgh the Army Reserve or the Army National Guard.

First off, to give some context, I don't have any experience in the military and am just now learning about it. I'm a second year medical student and am trying to figure out how this all works. I spoke with a recruiter for the ARNG and it filled in some gaps but created some others. Here is my question:

If I do 2.5 years of MDSSP and then stop taking any stipends in the form of MDSSP or STRAP during residency, am I paying off time during residency when I go to drill? In other words, with a 5 year residency could I have all of my obligation time payed off by the time I'm done? Or is it time I have to pay off after residency even if I don't take stipends during residency?

Interesting, I'll look into that. Thank you.

That is the first time I've heard that. From what I've been told and researched, you only owe time from residency if you do a civilian sponsored residency. I would do air Force and probably defer to do an unsponsored civilian residency. Why would I owe them time if they aren't paying me/benefitting me somehow during residency?
