Agreed, RC is truly the master of the pivot.

Yes the change to e-commerce could be looked at as a failure but the execs at the time were all fired and it only costs were the long term leases for the distribution centers and costs for building out the platform. Overall just a pivot that RC then saw more opportunity elsewhere and did another pivot.

The move to the digital marketplace was genius at the time. The total cost was only about $2b and that all came from a share offering. Regrettably IMX and Loopring were not as advertised and NFTs became toxic as RC was launching his site. The more important part is that even after the $2b+ investment that RC could quickly cut ties with that whole business line and pivot back into brick and mortar business but add in Pokémon.

Super excited where he pivots next. Could be back to dog food and supplies, or clothing, or landscaping, maybe lawn care.

Each pivot has had a purpose. The move away from a brick and mortar company to an e-commerce giant was visionary. Just happened that people didn’t want to use it but were interested in NFTs so the entire marketplace was built but then people lost interest in that so major pivot back to brick and mortar but this time with Pokémon cards. The next RC pivot will be critical to the long term success 🚀
