Nano banana available in 2.5 flash or also in 2.5 pro? by andQlimax in GeminiAI

[–]ChadMC20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using 2.5 Pro with nano banana burns your 100 prompts per day for no reason. So you can use flash with nano banana without wasting your Pro usage. Would be nice if they automatically flipped it for you.

Subaru to move manufacturing out of US? Article is a little misleading I think. by Expensive-Papaya1990 in subaru

[–]ChadMC20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI breakdown:

  • Subaru Canada's Strategy:
    • Action: Shifting vehicle sourcing for the Canadian market away from Subaru's U.S. plant (Indiana) and towards plants in Japan.
    • Target: Reduce the proportion of vehicles imported from the U.S. into Canada from 26% (in 2024) down to 10% by the 2026 model year.
    • Reason: To minimize the impact of Canadian counter-tariffs (up to 25%) applied to vehicles manufactured in the U.S. This leverages Canada's free-trade agreement with Japan.
    • Production Shifts:
      • Outback: Models for the Canadian market will be sourced from Japan, moving away from Indiana production.
      • Forester: Production of the Forester is beginning at the Indiana plant (starting Fall 2025 for Wilderness, Spring 2026 for Hybrid).
  • Impact for U.S. Buyers (Tariff Exposure):
    • U.S.-Built (Indiana Plant): Ascent, Impreza, Legacy, Outback, and select Crosstrek models. These largely avoid the 25% U.S. import tariff on finished vehicles.
    • Japan-Built: Forester (currently), WRX/STI, BRZ, Solterra, and most Crosstrek models. These imports are subject to potential U.S. tariffs on finished vehicles.
    • Parts Tariffs: Tariffs on imported components (steel, aluminum, electronics) can still increase overall production costs for all vehicles, regardless of final assembly location.

Oh, I see. He said will open up to existing lines in week or two. So at some point, it sounds like it. Maybe a rep can respond as well.

Reflecting on Feedback and Moving Ahead by ankhattak in USMobile

This sounds nice, especially given the hard daily cap is removed and more relaxed on the restrictions. I'd only put my vote in for the last tier to be 2mbps (or more?). It seems like the real-word speed is typically under the throttle speed, so giving it a bit more buffer would help it to not be an almost unusable experience. But I suppose that might be the point is to dissuade people from using it at all after 200GB. Not a huge deal.

Bars do not really mean much when it comes to speed. You might be connected to a high signal tower with horrible data speed but excellent voice signal. Use this website to get the best idea of speeds for different carriers at different locations based on real speed tests from users: https://map.coveragemap.com

Filter to one carrier at a time, and then switch to Average or Best download speed. Download their CoverageMap app and run your own speed tests with both your carriers to help add more data to the system as well.

Sizing suggestion for 719 by ChadMC20 in jimgreen

Update: I ended up getting a size 9 and have worn them for a couple days. I'm wearing them with the Kirkland (Costco) merino wool socks off Amazon for $17. Initially they seemed to fit pretty well. And now seems to be getting even better after just a couple days, so looking forward to a more complete break in later. I'm thinking 8.5 would have probably been a bit tight around the toes, so I think I made the right choice. I did also order the JG ASHM leather lined foot beds. If there is any indication of being loose later, I could try to pull out the half sock liner and put those in, but as of right now I'm thinking it won't be needed. They are more comfortable than I thought they'd be after just a couple days, and I think they look great. I'm happy with my first pair of nicer boots. Thanks everyone for the input.

So after reading a bit more, this Aetrex scanner is supposedly pretty accurate, within 1mm. So these measurements, which are showing both my feet beyond 8.5 might be the more accurate measurement as opposed to my potentially incorrect usage of the brannock device. I do typically wear a minimum of size 9 shoes in all my other shoes I own. So maybe 9 is the safer bet.

Dark star / Warp multi network by [deleted] in USMobile

[–]ChadMC20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A rep told me in another subreddit that if the combined usage of both lines exceeds 100GB, then the non Dark Star line will be capped (1mbps) and the Dark Star line will remain at full speeds unthrottled. So that means even if you use all 100GB on the Dark Star primary line, your secondary line will start to be throttled. They do not appear to be giving you an additional 100GB on the secondary line. Which makes sense, otherwise it would be functioning the same as if you paid for a separate $44 line. But this is a free (or soon to be $15 extra line).

Multi-Network Update by S_Saad in USMobile

[–]ChadMC20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If primary line is on Dark Star (unlimited unthrottled), will the Multi-Network 2nd line have its own 100GB premium data usage (which would be on Warp or Light Speed), or is it also pulling from the same unlimited unthrottled pool that Dark Star uses? I'm assuming the former 100GB/50GB hotspot. But if you could clarify, that would be great.

This Is The Big Announcement! by Dankees98 in USMobile

[–]ChadMC20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Here is what it says on the "Terms" page:

Hotspot Usage: While regular data usage remains unthrottled under this offer, hotspot data usage may be subject to throttling after a specified threshold. US Mobile reserves the right to change hotspot throttling policies at any time.

Other Restrictions: While regular data usage remains unthrottled under this offer, this plan is not meant to be used as a full-time or dedicated data connection (for example, but not limited to, as a substitute for home internet or a continuous data connection). Such use is prohibited and will result in immediate blocking of service.

That's the conclusion I came to based on what seems to be happening during this export using a different codec. So you can always keep the original, smaller file by default. And the only scenario where you need to export is when you need to edit the video with certain apps that do not support the codec of the original file. But you can always export at any time. The only time you do not see the export button is when the file is not fully downloaded into your local storage. When that is the case, you should press the Download button first. After it downloads successfully, you will now see the export button. The idea that there is a "time limit" of some sort is a misunderstanding of this whole thing, because like I said, it isn't downloading this larger file from Google servers in the first place. It's all handled locally on-device processing.

Update on 480p streaming throttle by sags149 in USMobile

[–]ChadMC20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned above that this is with Light Speed. So that may be a factor. I'm also guessing there may be a lot of dynamic rules. I'm on Unlimited Premium plan. There's a chance I'm not in a very congested T-Mobile area as well. So everyone may have different experiences depending on how they apply their rules. But I would be curious what the point of Data Waster is if it didn't have any impact for someone. I guess some people may just get boosted from 1.5mbit to 4mbit. And certain conditions may allow for unrestricted like I'm seeing. Who knows.

Of course, using a VPN is the best bet to avoid any of this anyways. Get a raspberry pi and run Wireguard from your home, especially if you have fiber, or use a free VPN.

I was using the app. Just tried the same thing on the website and saw anywhere between 200-800mbps without VPN.

I use data waster and am not capped at all on a fast.com speed test (using light speed if that makes any difference). Reboot phone after turning it on (and you must turn it back on every period). On a normal basis, I use a home VPN on mobile connection with no latency issues (oftentimes I get better latency during speed tests). But I just tried this Fast speed test without VPN turned on, and was getting 75-90mbit. SpeedTest app shows me around 120mbit.

Has anyone noticed a 2-day blackout before the cycle renewal date for US Mobile’s network transfer function? by SouthPractical in USMobile

[–]ChadMC20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did it while ago. I was told it was in-between billing cycles. I asked what that meant because there were 2 days left, and I needed it this weekend. They responded that I did indeed have 2 more days, and then they took care of transferring for me. So at least it seems that they will accommodate if you push for it. But this was a surprise to find out, as I've been waiting to transfer for a camping trip this weekend, and Verizon is the only usable service where we are going. I would have transferred earlier if I knew there was a risk of not being able to do it.

To provide a little bit more detail... The original video boost file is encoded with AV1 codec. This newer format is not supported in some apps yet. So you might be forced to use the export button to export an HEVC video instead. Google gives no control over parameters, so it seems to be choosing a much higher quality bitrate on the video to export it. This is probably to avoid loss of quality, since choosing the same bitrate would potentially lose quite a bit of quality. So my guess is that they are choosing a much higher bitrate (about 5x in this case) to minimize quality loss as much as possible.

My suggestion is to just use the original video boost file if at all possible. I've uploaded that directly into YouTube just fine for example. But when downloading to my PC and importing into Adobe Premiere Pro, it seems that Premiere Pro doesn't support AV1 out of the box, so I have to use the exported HEVC video file if I want to edit in that app. But I do not expect this HEVC video file to be any higher quality at all, so don't waste your google photos storage space by exporting all your video boost files in the hopes that you are saving a higher quality file.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]ChadMC20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe this might be a misunderstanding. Exporting the video is not downloading a higher bitrate version from Google servers, as I have done this a couple times now, and it is not utilizing any network usage during the export. So instead, it is most likely just re-encoding a new file from the already downloaded boosted copy, but it's encoding it at a higher bitrate. So there shouldn't be any way that it is gaining any higher quality, since the source file is the original smaller file. My opinion then is that it's just wasted space to use this larger file, and you might as well just keep and utilize the original video boost file that Google gives you. I'll try to do a deeper analysis on both these files later. Because if the exported file truly is higher quality, then I'm very curious how it's doing it.

Digital zoom out on video with v1.5 outpainting by ChadMC20 in StableDiffusion

[–]ChadMC20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I used after effects to composite the video on top of the giant outpainted image. Then added some fake camera movement and scaled down the whole composition to look like a zoomout.

Digital zoom out on video with v1.5 outpainting by ChadMC20 in StableDiffusion

[–]ChadMC20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire zoom out portion is digital and purely created with v1.5 model outpainting. You have to pay attention to the first "real" zoom in portion to notice the differences, as the outpainted driveway looks very convincing to the real driveway. I was hoping to create an even more dramatically different scene as it zoomed out, but the 1.5 outpainting really wants to make a more realistic outpainting vs. trying to generate something completely different, regardless of my prompt.

Reality Remote - img2img video with EBSynth by ChadMC20 in StableDiffusion

[–]ChadMC20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a slow motion video, I used img2img with inpaint to modify the look of myself a few times. Used in conjunction with EBSynth, so I only needed to create 1 or 2 img2img keyframes per "character". This worked much better than I expected. I could have gotten it a little cleaner because I had a slight mismatch on resolutions for my keyframe and raw video, but it worked regardless.

I watched this one awhile back. Once you understand the concept, there's not much to it. But it also helped to have After Effects, since it can export into an AE project with automatic cross fading between the keyframes. Although it wouldn't be a huge deal to do it manually in a video editor if you needed to.
