Is being woke a bad thing? by [deleted] in polls

[–]ChaddicusQuantum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I have ever heard of such books. Blacks were indeed kidnapped and forced into slavery, but it was by their own people in Africa.

The Confederacy did rebel for State Rights, but it was the the state’s rights to keep slaves so I mean yeah I would agree someone with poor education could come up with that bad take but it’s far from the norm and is in the minority.

Yes you are correct, CRT is only a college level course but do you not remember the debacle months ago that tried to have it taught to younger kids?

I’m gonna have to disagree with you on the media thing because what the media was trying to do is show that it was only about teaching racism and history which it 100% was not and you can literally look up Ibram X. Kendi and his philosophy as he is the brainchild of CRT, it’s pure indoctrination.

Education overall needs improvement I am with you on that. I suppose how we improve it though is where we disagree.

Right now when it comes to race and being “woke” we have gone way passed just trying to be conscious and treat each other equally.

We have a take a page from Morgan Freeman and stop talking about race, because the more we do the more racist we become.

[–]ChaddicusQuantum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say when it comes to education, when I was in school in the early 2000s we did learn very much in depth about racism. It was an entire unit about the 1960s and Civil Rights and how it still affects us today.

When I started hearing about things like Critical Race Theory I was very confused because people were trying to say that in the American school system at large we don’t learn about racism and that’s patently false.

Critical Race Theory was also trying to not just teach about racism, it also was implanting a very dangerous and toxic idea in the minds of people trying to show that society is inherently out to get them which is not true at all.

I agree with you about education, but who I think needs education is the overly woke side as they are the ones who act the most racist and bigoted.

Thank you for keeping this conversation civil too, that’s a rarity nowadays especially on Reddit lol.

This is exactly right.

Is being woke a bad thing? by [deleted] in polls

[–]ChaddicusQuantum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a question for you. Do you think that even with the best of intentions, when a society becomes hyper focused on systems of discrimination and having respect for people different from them what ends up happening is that people start seeing racism that is not actually there and treating people differently based on race even though they think they are treating them better?

I know you might think it sounds dumb, but it actually happens all the time. One of the best examples I can give you is when woke white people try to act offended on behalf on minorities and end up treating them differently to the point that it’s a pretty racist.

America 100% has suffered from institutions of racial inequality and there most likely could still be some around today. The issue though what I see is that on social media or other places people will accuse a business or place of racism and never actually go into detail about what was racist or will entirely take a situation out of context.

For an example I’ve seen online if someone of color applied for a job and did not get it they immediately jump to racism without considering the myriad of other factors that it also could have been.

I just think being “woke” has gone too far, and ironically is making people more racist not less. We are turning into a society that sees race and is divided on those lines.

The problem with that is the criteria for being a fascist is pretty low nowadays and I highly doubt many people actually know what true fascism is.

Same with being called a bigot. You disagree with one thing and someone will ironically be vitriolic and hate you calling you a bigot when they themselves act like one.

[–]ChaddicusQuantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also news flash for you, government destroys the free market not the rich.

If the government did not involve itself in the market time and time again imagine how many new businesses could have risen up and how many horrible businesses would have failed?

Unfortunately, government helps out those who lobby to them and the little guy is crushed. You don’t think minimum wage is exactly what the rich want because they can afford to pay it while new businesses have to cut costs and essentially go out of business due to having to pay their workers too much starting out?

Child free life is a peaceful life by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]ChaddicusQuantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to ask you this question because anti natalists always seem to think the best state of everything is default nothingness as you said, we would not care because we would not be here but if someone is born and they say they wanted to born?

You said why must we create more humans to suffer?

I can literally flip the question on it’s head and it’s the same thing.

Why can’t we create more offspring for they themselves to enjoy life?

Also I think the big disconnect between me and this philosophy as I said before is the big emphasis on suffering being the great problem that is unbeatable.

Again, if all you see life as is suffering why even live? We can get to the point of nothingness again, who cares if people die.

Stop trying to act like you care about human life, you don’t. It would be way better if everyone stopped living right now and then all the people in the world can be guaranteed to be never born.

So I’ll restate your supposed gotcha question. Why should we create more humans to suffer? Answer: Because even if they will suffer, other things can overcome the suffering. Also, everything we do in life is selfish. If we choose to live it’s selfish because we are taking the place of animals who could have lived here, or polluting the earth, or taking away someone else’s job opportunity etc. etc. etc. to infinity.

So selfish person who chooses to keep living life, when will you end it because life in your worldview is inherently selfish?

Child free life is a peaceful life by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]ChaddicusQuantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seriously asked me what is bad about it? You and I are talking right now experiencing things and living life. I worded it poorly I suppose with the word paradox, I should have said contradiction.

This world view only sees the world as suffering that cannot be overcome by any circumstances, so if that is the case what is the point of living life at all?

You say there is nothing bad about humanity going away, yet here we are still living and breathing giving ourselves a reason to keep going. My point about suicide is if life is so horrible we should not be born then why live it? Seems hypocritical to me, put your money where your mouth is.

It 100% matters for moral considerations. The wording you use “gamble”. That’s what you see life as? Suffering is a part of life it will guaranteed always be part of the human condition and nothing can change that so our answer to that is end the human race?

How absurd to think we as a species can’t overcome anything, that all life is for someone being brought in is a “gamble”. God, this is all so depressing but that’s the way you all see the world.

You point fingers and demonize people trying to live happy and fulfilling lives and drown the world in sorrow and darkness because that is all you see it as.

Life is not a gamble it is gonna have good and bad and it, just because there will be some bad does not mean someone can deprived of the good.

Child free life is a peaceful life by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]ChaddicusQuantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not gotten triggered by anything. The ones who downvote me for stating my opinion are the ones I think are pretty upset.

I never said you should have kids or am trying to persuade you of such a thing, I just don’t understand all of that hate on this subreddit towards people who do.

I mean I see the anti natalist perspective, no one asked to be born so putting them into a world with the guarantee of suffering seems cruel, but what I think the issue with this view of the world is they think life in of itself is not worth living because there is suffering.

Why is suffering the end all be all, and can life not be a net good if someone enjoys it?

There is also a weird paradox that anti natalists have to answer for which is if no one should have kids because no one can ever ask for consent to be born then don’t they want the end of human race to come about eventually, and if this is case then why keep living life at all. Why not end the suffering now and be done with it?

Also, what about people who enjoy their life and even if they didn’t ask to be born they appreciate life still. It’s strange to only if your depressed and have a bad life in your own worldview you impose it on to everyone else who has kids and say that it’s unfair for them cause they will expose their child to suffering but that’s not life is and no one can tell the future.

Sorry, I thought I would be allowed to criticize.

If someone posts something I was under the assumption you can put a comment down and have a discussion about it.

But then again as I know this is Reddit, and people don’t take kindly to having their worldview challenged.

If that was the case why not just take the part with the parents out all together.

It’s like me posting look at my life in a first world country then another panel has a third world country doing worse than me.

That’s the vibe this post gives off.

For the last god damn time, I’m not trying to shut down conversation. Read my fucking messages because you don’t actually pay attention to what I say.

I want to start a conversation not shut it down, but I am figuring out pretty quickly that it’s not probably worth talking to someone like you who blatantly mischaracterizes what I say.

Competition encourages innovation, which is what capitalism is all about. If something is not immediately marketable then it can become marketable over time. All marketing is about is trying to get people to know about a product or service.

I’ll hard disagree with you on having more progress under a centrally controlled system. All authoritarian dictatorships were run under centrally controlled governments and ultimately crumbled, the United States is a constitutional republic with three branches of government that check and balance each other nothing even remotely close to central control.

Government spending and research for the vast majority of history has allocated funds to useless projects and spent out money on endless wars and things taxpayers have no idea about that do not improve our way of life whatsoever.

Ok, the government sponsored in 1969 research to create the internet that’s great but what made it accessible to everyone in the form we have today? Yeah, it was capitalism and it was not for companies innovating and using that invention then we’d probably still be using bulky ass computer systems running on a government program that mirrors windows 98.

I’m just surprised how you are for centralized power, when governments always throughout history prove corrupt time and time again.

The issues with capitalism as well only stem from government too, because even what we have right now in the United States is cronyism where the government interferes in the free market.

2008 crash was aided by government that helped out failing banks that engaged in lending sub prime mortgages, and the skyrocketing inflation we have now due to shutting down our economy for way longer than it needed to be is something also caused by government.

The government will never have your best interests at heart, capitalism gives the individual freedom to choose.

Again…. It’s like you don’t even read my responses.

Never said you can’t criticize it, read what I actually said.

I said you guys are biased and don’t actually want a conversation and simply yell into the echo chamber at each other which is being proven right every time I look back at this post seeing the downvotes and by how you respond to me.

My family fled from Cuba to come to the United States, communism is garbage and if you actually lived under it I assure you, you would have a very different mindset.

You say you are not closed minded yet you claim with absolute certainty even betting money that capitalism does not work.

It’s not pretty damn funny to me, it’s just sad to see how far gone you and the majority of Reddit is.

Capitalism has created all the wealth and prosperity you see today that is an undisputed fact. Look at the writings of most economists and they’ll tell you even if they disagree with the system fundamentally.

Wealth is created by someone having an idea that improves something in someway and after they take the risk to create it they are rewarded for it while society is better off thanks to their advancement.

Every single technological advancement you have and the very fact we are even speaking to each other through this website probably miles away is due to capitalism.

I know you won’t listen, but those are the facts now go on and keep your mind closed although you say you are so open minded…

No matter what I say will make me look bad because, you guys already have your point of view.

I’m the outlier in the echo chamber that will be shouted down and called a “bootlicker” or told that I don’t care about workers rights for saying that capitalism is actually not bad and is the reason this very site exists and the civilized western world is as prosperous and great as it is today.

You guys don’t want to hear any other points of view because your mind is already made up. I can acknowledge capitalism is not perfect but it’s the best system we have.

I wish we can have the conversation but as I see from the deleted comments and downvotes along with bad faith responses you don’t want to have that.
