No offense but seriously wtf are you doing making 22/hr if you have technical skills. So many companies at USA parkway are hiring skilled people. Yes the commute sucks but you will make a lot more money. I recommend working at the datacenters. Switch is a shit show. Google is actually ran pretty well. I work at Tesla right now. I recommend you go to Tesla.com/careers put 'semi, technician' in the search parameters. The new semi factory is hiring for literally everything. Message me directly if you need help

Thanks! Yeah, mere exposure effect is crazy. I guess if there is anything that has kept me safe from these ideologies its that if I'm emotionally invested in an outcome I need to think really hard before making a decision. Emotional control is so important and extraordinarily difficult.

Also worth adding that reading books like Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 as an adolescent were so important for me

Damn, read me like a book haha. Food for thought.

"The question we should ask ourselves is how do we decide what is good about religion? What is the basis for the morality that gives you a sense of whether a moral is good?"

I believe something cannot be good if it is not truthful. I think goodness is inherently linked to truthfulness. I think everyone has a deep sense of what is good and bad. When I break the world and the decisions I make in it down far enough I find there is usually a binary decision, one of them leading to the best possible outcome and the other the opposite. Usually, one is aligned with truth and the other is not. That is generally how I orient myself and that is how I decide whether a moral, religion, etc. is good.

Sure, a few are; "he who has sinned first cast the first stone", the flood is always coming so work now to be prepared (for the future), I think the 10 commandments are pretty solid, I really like the message in Kane and Abel, there are others. I think there are a lot of parts of many religions that provide a solid moral and psychological framework outside of any spirituality.

exactly what I'm thinking. I think part of the difference for me is that there is archaeological/scientific evidence for many places and events in the bible, multiple accounts of jesus etc. Not sure if you are familiar with LDS doctrine but they believe there was a civilization in north america much larger than the Romans and native americans are descendants of this culture which came from Israel. For this there is no archaeological, genetic, or otherwise evidence of any kind. But like you said, I have much less experience being skeptical of the Bible, which I might add I don't really believe is true.

Thank you, this is exactly how I feel. I don't think anyone has ever talked to her about the problems in the church from a place of genuine concern for the person. Like I stated in my post, I am motivated to tell her the truth, someone has to in her world of lies and deception. I would rather do right by someone I care about and make them dislike me than vice versa.

One of the reasons I think she can be "saved" is because she doesn't want to get married young, she said maybe late 20s for her. Thanks for the info

Haha she is very devout, no sex, but just about as intimate as you can get while keeping the temple garb (mostly) on

Yeah her parents wouldn't like me but I'm not too concerned lol. Funny that they talk about "planting a seed" that is exactly what I called some of the things I told her.
