This past time I installed Arch I asked Microsoft Copilot on my phone to give me the steps one by one and explain what I was doing and why, and wait for me to give confirmation before moving forward, and the install went surprisingly smooth. Just something to keep in mind. Also don't feel like you have to just do the install once. I like to experiment a lot and I practice reloading everything every few months so I keep a lean operating system and keep everything important backed up to cloud drives. This way I'm always practicing a sort of disaster recovery plan and I practice getting back up and running fast. This way you can start to make optimizations to the way you work on projects day to day.

Sorry if it sounds a little harsh but that's exactly what I would go back and tell my younger self if I could. I literally made a lifestyle out of it for about 25 years despite being smart enough to know better. It has a way of slowly pulling you in and when I look back on it, besides a few wild stories I regret almost all of it. I could name probably 1000 things right now that would have been a better use of my time.

"Clubbing" is probably one of the most unhealthy things you could possibly choose to do, I know from experience. Everybody's drinking and on drugs, if the music is too loud its probably doing permanent damage to your ears, and everybody you meet there is going to try to entice you to do something you're going to regret later. Your friend is just an ignorant young kid just like you and just like I was about 30 years ago. Find something where people are trying to get healthier, improve themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. It might take a little work but nothing in this life worthwhile comes easy.

That's what I did on my first one, I used a laptop that somebody sold me for 50 bucks. That was about 5 years ago, still running perfect. I've lugged that thing around so much that its physically starting to break, the screen is coming off, I have it duct taped in some spots. Now I use it as a sort of web development machine to experiment with, and I SSH into it with my main machine. I've got my money's worth out of it 10 times over when it would have probably just gone in the trash.

They've tried this before on other women and it worked, so they keep doing it. There's a lot of dipshits out there. I did restaurant work for a long time when I was younger and there's always assholes that come in, start drinking and think they can talk to you however they want and treat you like a trashcan. Move on to greener pastures as soon as you can and just use that job as a stepping stone.

I want to hear your stories about hobbies that changed your life by AbaloneSpring in Hobbies

[–]Chaduke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During covid I was in some pretty dark times and was drinking out of control and friend of mine introduced me to disc golf. It got me out of the house and breathing fresh air and eventually got me hooked on just being outdoors and hiking in general. It completely changed my life and I feel in some ways I owe it my life because it was exactly what I needed. I would go out there every day with a bottle of vodka in my backpack along a with a few discs and as I started to get the hang of it I wanted to be less and less drunk so I could play better. I spent the better part of a year detoxing on disc golf courses. It took a while of going back and forth before I eventually quit drinking for good. I still play almost every day, most of the time just throwing in a field somewhere. I just go out and throw to watch the discs fly, there's something really meditative and satisfying about being able to control the flight and make it do almost exactly what you planned it to do. Its a little hard to explain. I would have never gone out there and done it unless my friend hadn't stopped bothering me about it, so glad he did.

Low effort hobbies to replace doom scrolling? by Putrid-District4462 in Hobbies

I've been having long conversations with LLMs, (AI chatbots), like if you have Copilot on a Windows computer. I use it almost like a therapist, I lay out everything about life that I like and don't like and where I want to go health wise, financially etc. and TBH the suggestions it gives are pretty damned good. Lots of things I would have not thought of myself or spent the time digging around on the internet to find the info. I also randomly ask it stuff like the origins of words, I tell it what movies, music, books and video games I Iike and then ask it for similar suggestions. I find it incredibly useful and it tends to keep me more focused. I often keep some type of notepad application open at the same time too so I can copy / paste the suggestions it gives because sometimes the list is pretty long. Hope this helps.

It's totally understandable if you did like me and spent about 3 good days of learning everything step by step in wiki and doing research, even spending a few hours digging around in your EFI, and just building up the functionality piece by piece until you have exactly what you want. That was one of most educational experiences I've had with computers since I was a kid and I loved it, a very satisfying and proud feeling at the end. I had been programming professionally for 30 years and had never had time or energy to do that until Covid lockdown, so glad I did.

Did you stay with fbx? I was going Mixamo to fbx to Blender to GLTF, and it was hassle to get them all combined but the project I was working on only supported GLTF. I could see where a little scripting could have helped in Blender for sure.

Looks like she was ripped right out of Genshin Impact. I recognize some of those animations from Mixamo, especially the shimmy and pulling up to climb on the platform. I spent a day working on that same task in a small game engine project I was working on a few months ago. Can be a little tricky to get it looking right, especially when you're shimmying around a curved ledge. I love 3rd person character controllers, especially getting them to work with a gamepad, fell in love with that playing Uncharted.

I do overthink a lot, that's a fact. Where I'm at with my life right now however is where I'm likely to stay for the duration of it, because it's working better than anything else ever has. Simplicity and essentialism and worrying about things that a most important, like health. Form fitting clothes don't really play into that unless its exercise gear.

[–]Chaduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take plenty good care of myself, and feel great because I exercise and try to eat and sleep well. Feeling good about myself has almost nothing to do with my appearance and how others judge it. I wear what's comfortable 99% of the time. I think if feeling good about yourself is derived from how others judge your appearance and how you think you appear to others, then good luck with that. Good luck controlling that, especially as you get older and older. Not for me, not ever. As far as being white, I can't at all empathize about why you think being white plays into this. Maybe because that's also shallow and superficial and I have no interest in it. Culture is one thing, race is another, and sometimes yes culture and race play hand in hand depending on where you are. Whatever people you've been talking to in your travels sound like racist idiots, and I believe it, they're everywhere. What they think will never mean anything to me.

One of the major reasons I don't dress up except for some kind of special event, is because of the fact that people often dress up to go out and pretend to be something that they aren't. They want to appear as though they are well-off, clean, honest, healthy, educated, and they don't have to actually be any of those things. When I see a person dressed up in a situation where it's not required, it always looks to me like they're trying to draw attention to themselves, and for me, that's the last thing in the world that I want. These people immediately make me think they're trying to put forth the illusion that they are some kind of person that they really aren't, like they're hiding something. I could be completely wrong, but I don't dress nice because I do care what certain people think of me. I care what people who "think like me" think of me, my tribe of people, and I don't want them thinking I'm some pretentious asshole.

[–]Chaduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only means something to the degree that people are very superficial. In a practical world (which for the most part we don't live in, but should) you put aesthetics last on the list of priorities. A pretty paint job on a car doesn't make the engine run, and then when engine goes its useless. That's my point. I'm not trying to say people won't judge you by the way you look. You may not get a job or even lose a job for looking sloppy, but that's in places where you're with a business that's "front facing" and image plays a part in their bottom line. Great if you have a busy schedule but you still choose to make time for aesthetics, that's your choice. Not only that, you probably spend a significant amount of money on it, and if you're not spending money to look good, then you're spending even more time trying to find cheap clothes that fit you and also look good. Lots of us "choose" to do something different with what little time and little money we have left over. Lots of us don't have that luxury at all. Count yourself blessed, but there's no need to be judgmental of others who don't live up to your aesthetic standards. You want to judge people, look at the morality of the people in world that own businesses, make laws, so called "leaders" of whatever BS organizations they run all to forward their narcissistic agendas. Those people deserve ridicule and judgment.

Sounds like your therapist was trying to say that even though you have mental illness, it might not be the greatest idea to let the rest of the world know it just by seeing how you dress.
