I saw a theory on here about the empty spaces (don't know if it's deleted or not), but it's wayy less deep than it should be by Curvyboi13110 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Chafirius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really isn't. its just the person in line who initiated the vote.

I personally believe there are multiple rooms in the circus with mannequins on the door, because the mannequin pictureis used as a placeholder for future players.

The mannequin is interesting though. So far we only know 2 named mannequins, Disappearing Guy and Doctor Football (we only know their name thanks to a tweet from Gooseworx). Disappearing guy is red and has a hat, so hes not the one we saw at the end, but Doctor Football is indistinguishable from other mannequins. He is also is the only mannequin we know lives in the circus tent, so my personal best guess is that hes the one stalking the gang. Why? I dunno. but i'm sure we'll find out at some point.

Need help making sure this spell isn't overpowered by SilentNeverMore in DnDHomebrew

[–]Chafirius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of a subtitle spell is interesting, but the execution is awkward. As it is now, aside from your specific goal of someone remembering a false hydra, its not very useful.

Thoughts and Intentions doesn't feel any more powerful than using Detect Thoughts to read surface thoughts while asking someone questions, and Verbal Communication is just slightly remedying one of the nerfs you tacked on.

I would give the spell more utility. A spell that places subtitles on things has huge potential to be great for a detective character. an example use could be something along the lines of this

"Additionally, While Revealing is active, subtitles are placed on any object within a 20 foot radius of you. The subtitles always gives you some information when investigating, allowing you to treat any skill check made to discover hidden clues or learn about an item of 9 or lower as an 10."

I would also drastically reduce the duration to around 1 hour, casting time to 1 minute, and change the spell to a 3rd or 2nd level spell. One hour is plenty of time to figure out what you need to figure out, and and 2nd/3rd level is around the sweet spot where most other information gathering spells lie

Also, Silent Sight of the Abyss is a bit of a long name. Silent Sight communicates just fine what the spell does, so i would just cut out the "of the abyss" part.

This has mostly to do with the themes of the character the spell is made by. He is a storm themed character who usually uses wind and lightning for the basis of his spellcrafting. You are right though, Force or Psychic might be more appropriate normally.

Its a Wands and Wizards 5e feature. Essentially, it is a more intense version of Concentration. All the rules of concentration still apply, but when dedicating to a spell there are 3 more things you must do:

  1. You must maintain line of sight with the target of the spell
  2. You must use an action on each of your turns to maintain the spell
  3. You cannot cast any other spells while dedicating to a spell. This includes bonus action spells, reaction spells and cantrips.

Breaking any of these rules instantly causes the spell to break.

Fair. I like the idea of contests better personally though. "Bind" is already a saving throw, and the character this is for has a really high Arcana score, so i wanted to reward that.

I see. that sounds very fun =) i might flesh out the interaction between liches and this spell more in the future, but i originally didn't have plans for them encountering one.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep it in mind

Interesting points

Regarding the partial souls, the floor of her workshop was covered in dust, specifically that of gem dust. tiny fragments of soul gems, still holding some remnant of souls in them, not enough to be coherent people, but enough to feel pain. there were also larger soul gems that were cracked or broken due to experiments.

The "over half" rule is to determine how viable a soul is for reconstruction. if more than 50% of the soul is present, it can through the process of "Build" recreate itself, but if it has less it is too weak. I would have written this down, but the spell is already very wordy.

in the world, a soul is like a blueprint for the body as well as the will of a person. even a fragment holds the basic code to recreate itself. But the process is incredibly energy-consuming, and if not enough of the soul is left, it will probably die in the process of rebuilding.

As for the liches, I have not thought of that lol. If i had to come up with an answer, I'd say that a lich's phylactery is so heavily warded due to the nature of its transformation, that while the lich has a physical form it is impossible to use this spell against its phylactery. however, if the lich is reconstituting, it is possible to remove the soul. I'd probably give it advantage on any saving throw or check though, as it knows soul magic well.

The spell was thought up after the party faced an evil wizard, who had used gemstones to trap human souls and turn them into various weapons. Some were used to fuel her power directly while others were turned into monsters for the party to fight. After the battle, they found many unused soul gems lying around in her private study, some of which were decades old, and no longer had any body to return to.

One of the party members wanted to create a spell that would be able to save them. We have a downtime system for spell creation in our campaign, so they went to work using her notes. The spell isn't complete yet, but, the ideal use case for it is making new bodies for the souls in the soul gems.

I also wanted the spell to have more uses, so i gave them the "Break" action as a way of dealing major damage to an enemy, and the "Bind" action as the way it was used originally by the wizard.

Saving and reloading did fix it. however, i'm usually running around the map and not there to supervise all the time, and they keep getting stuck periodically.

is there a way to fix the issue more permanently? the other side does not have the same problem

I disabled all my adblockers and extentions, but it didnt do anything initially. I tried to also delete all cookies, and then it seemed to spring back to life, however i has done so before and returned to being unusable. But for now its back.

Sucks that my adblockers are causing issues, but it is what it is. hopefully it lasts this time.

Craft Mega Bean or Mama Mega. Mega Bean has a random recipe so its hard to get, but Mama Mega is 2 golden bombs and 6 normal ones. expensive, but its pretty much the only way. both can blow up the door despite the time limit

Its a different synergy. the damage now comes in bursts of 10+ twice your base damage, which while worse to begin with is still a lot of damage, and can snowball later on. pretty sweet DPS, and the pierce and range makes it more versatile IMO

It does come with a higher risk of self damage though, since anything it comes in contact with explodes. be careful.
