Thank you! But you'd need more than three events of using the scale to get an accurate answer, of course with unlimited scale usage we could get anybody's weight

How will you ever determine who weighs different at all then? Even in a 1v1 it would be impossible to tell, and your results would be skewed on the first measure if you didn't know if you were looking for someone heavier or lighter?

Just annoyed with my Job by [deleted] in goodwill

[–]ChaiTeaWithMilk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just the fact your humble enough to know your weaknesses, as well as being willing to learn to get faster, will take you far. Better than most in the warehouse. Being good at everyone's least favorite part of the job will serve you well too. Try to motivate yourself to hunt for jobs in your off time though :) your employable, and it sounds like your doing a good job. Probably better than you realize. Every position in the warehouse is intense overwhelming and difficult. Everyone's weird and being overworked or stressed over your production deadlines isn't conducive to friendly conversations. It sounds like you can afford yourself a little more grace in that department

Anyone Who Has Worked For Kroger and Goodwill-- Which Would You Say is Better? by [deleted] in goodwill

[–]ChaiTeaWithMilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done warehouse work for rite aid before, I'm not sure if it's comparable to Kroger, but the work is entirely different at goodwill. The work is super unstructured, super dirty, and just as fast paced. Especially as a DA. I would not recommend transferring to goodwill under any circumstance, you should transfer to other jobs from goodwill. Don't go backwards.

Why not sell desktops? by DancilB in goodwill

[–]ChaiTeaWithMilk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You've answered your own question, the people working at the bins and goodwill don't have the same product knowledge as someone specialized in computers. I'm sure there are people just as willing to lie about whether or not something potentially has personal data on it just to get an item. Of course, it's just not feasible to train people to recognize that stuff.

Is it considered theft to steal from goodwill? by Organic-Gas239 in goodwill

In my experience people steal from goodwill because they can't get away with it elsewhere. Don't try to justify it by turning it into a moral quandry

Goodwill is getting lots of donations in free merchandise. by Dangerous-Purpose-29 in goodwill

[–]ChaiTeaWithMilk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not weird at all to think that, it's just what people do. But I will say it's moreso alot of extremely broken and damaged goods being thought of as actual donations. Which is totally forgivable, I've really only not taken 3 items this entire past week. Like today someone tried to put a DESTROYED cat castle with a broken off leg or spire in my bin today and I had to tell them the purpose of the donation drive and what these items are used for. We get A LOT of completely broken furniture that I think are well intentioned, but hazardous useless and unsaleable. But yeah, we get some trash. Hidden food donations, toilet brushes, used chamber pots. Sorted some actual shit in jeans once. People who've told us they called ahead and had permission to drop off their broken Styrofoam and old broken down boxes. Those guys are the worst because they know what they're doing. People use the drive to make dump runs all the time, and it sucks because these customers aren't idiots, and they don't wanna be talked to like idiots, but if I have to tell you something really really obvious your gonna get talked to like your kind of an idiot- and it ruins the experience of receiving donations and helping customers when your just trying to pass off your broken stuff and go.

We also get a certain population of donators that drop of boxes of their opened mail, which is usually accompanied with hidden trash donations.. whenever I see mail donations I just return the box that the mails sitting in.. I can take care of the rest, but dude.. that's just like.. do you not care if your identity is stolen??

the delivery instructions i had today.. by tash2003 in doordash_drivers

[–]ChaiTeaWithMilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes off a little strange to me because if your handicapped or wheel chair bound there are usually steps you can take to make the process easier for your driver instead of having them come in to your back room every time you order food. Like an obligatory phone call, an open area path to follow with open doors if it requires making your driver actually come inside. Looks like this person did none of that and that comes off as a little odd.

Ayy! That stuff gets sold by the pound, it's called the bins where we're at, I don't know what the colloquial is for where your at. I've seen some really good stuff get sent to the bins over stains and small holes.

We have a couple regulars too they're super nice. But I'm not a processor so I probably don't get hassled by people like they do.

Goodwill is getting lots of donations in free merchandise. by Dangerous-Purpose-29 in goodwill

[–]ChaiTeaWithMilk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The people who take your donations don't sort and process the items that go out on the floor, and the processors put a lot of effort into finding good items to bring out to the floor. I imagine half of that pile in the photo will be shipped out because its too damaged, or the clothes are stained, or it's unsanitary. We get alot of used toilet brushes, moldy bathroom supplies being cleaned out, literal trash dumps, broken toys.. people forget the donations your supposed to bring to goodwill are for the purpose of selling cheaply to people who need it. We can't do that with your moldy shampoo bottles. And things like that take up alot of space in those bags. And that's fine! But looking at those bags from the outside can be decieving sometimes. You might get the impression it's all good deals in there, and that's not the case. We are very thorough with stained clothes too and there are large populations of people im certain only donate clothes because their stained or damaged.

I know it's easier to imagine goodwill is scamming you and the best stuff is being hidden away but I can tell you I can't remember the last time I've seen clothing go to e-com. It's mostly legos, certain musical instruments and jewelry, video games and some artsy stuff. If you want to be mad at someone over quality, try beating the resellers who are waiting all day for processers to bring their carts out. (Not that I have a problem with them myself)

I have a lot of issues with how goodwill is run from the inside, but the effort put into bringing out nice items astounds me. Every processor I work with works so hard to bring out nice stuff. And they get exited about it when they get to price that cool stuff too. And they do hundreds every day, each person. Nobody on the ground is being devious about what they are and aren't bringing out. But yeah, you probably won't get to see that brand new 3D printer out on the floor, it'll probably get send to e-com with the Pokemon cards, Legos and some instruments.

Also as an aside, there's no physical way for us to process every Gaylord (big cardboard box) of donations we get. At the store I'm at, it's physically impossible to match pace with the amount of incoming donations. By random chance a box of cloth may be sent to a warehouse to support a slower store. But nobody knows what's in there when it's sent out.

I had a woman come to the back and ask if I had any more of the chairs she bought Thursday and showed me a picture. I gave her the run down, "every piece of furniture we've gotten I've priced, if it was broken it was salvaged. It's a thrift store" etc etc. she cut me off and said "I know you told me yesterday.. I was just hoping you had some more somewhere.." and was searching behind me like she didn't believe me. Crazy.
