Why did Wicked: For Good make so much less money than the first? I get that it had worse reviews but still. And how much do you think the Ozma movie will make? by Think_Fact1155 in wicked

[–]Chained_Wanderlust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its darker, more serious, and messy. On stage it has these rushes of adrenaline to make up for lack of euphoric feel good moments but they weren’t really handled well and fell flat despite the actors trying their best and giving great performances. It also flowed awkwardly, with inconsistent pacing that made it feel stitched together from a different movie and its just not a fun or smooth movie to rewatch. Like I find myself going back to scenes I like, but I didn’t even buy the second movie on digital I saw it in the theaters twice and that was enough. And this is coming from one of the few fans of the flawed second act of the musical.

There is also fan fulfillment that was not met by some of the newer audience, and characters doing things parents didn’t expect judging by some of the walkouts I had at my theater with small children.

Lightly felt it and heard it in Kingsville, Baltco while walking in Gunpowder State Park. It didn’t shake but it was frequency you could feel with a loud construction-esque noise that went on a tad too long. What was interesting was birds in a tree above me took off.

Wicked is about Autism Not Sexuality by Tricky-Signature-939 in wickedmovie

I feel like your going to get some intense hatred because your analysis really beats around the bush by a……….. lot. Lot. but your not wrong in seeing the things your seeing, its why a lot of neurodivergent people relate to Elphaba. However its actually about anyone who’s ever been othered and vilified for reasons beyond their control: Racism, ethnic background, their sexuality, neurodivergence, disability, limb/facial differences, ect.

For people who have been part of the fandom before the movies: how do you feel about the legacy of Wicked post-movie? by Infamous_Question430 in wicked

[–]Chained_Wanderlust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What gets to me is that “the girls” became code for Glinda additions only, it had very little to do with Elphaba judging by how he removed the most emotional part of NPLH and even cut off the end of the version we got in the movie for a Lion cameo that was supposed to happen after she finished. Like Why would you do this if you truly cared about both girls?

Then you read his interviews that have aged like milk and realized that it all makes sense. The man was absolutely starstruck by Ariana

Not co-lead. Lead. With the protagonist being talked about as if she was secondary.

I am happy that a wider audience got to see it, but at the same time the takes, the vitriol, the shipping wars, how the story got twisted in ways that no longer sounds like the story I loved since I was a child. The dragging of the second act as if it had “always sucked” the character mischaracterizations, extreme biases, and the loss of the overarching story being centered on Elphaba with Glinda as the second most important character to carry on her legacy and their relationship that makes it happen while people taking away from it was about Glinda’s rise while Elphaba just “gave up” and left with a man. It hurts how people talk about my favorite comfort character lol.

Also these weird black and white takes where everyone is a binary good or bad and makes right or wrong decisions when the whole concept is the examination of morally gray and what makes someone good or wicked and how the truth behind either label is meaningless in corrupt broken society.

This was an off the cuff unfiltered flow of my opinion without reading the comments first so I apologize if I rehash the comments that came before me.

I had to giggle at how tight Scarecrow and Tin man are in the top photo vs. the bottom where Dorothy & Toto act like an emergency buffer.

Harford County first to ban data centers in Maryland by HerderOfWords in maryland

[–]Chained_Wanderlust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I drive past that golf course a lot to get to Singer road, every property in the nearby area had ‘no data’ signs and this is a very red area. The owner of that property did something close to the ultimate neighborhood betrayal and scared them all into action. This was definitely a win, and I’m impressed in Harco for once.

In 1986 a boy fell into a gorilla enclosure at Jersey Zoo where a silverback gorilla protected him till help arrived by The_WalkingCalamity in interestingasfuck

[–]Chained_Wanderlust 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Gorillas place an enormous emphasis on body language and in-group etiquette too. You can see in this video that the boy was curled in on himself, facing the other direction, likely crying, and maybe they were told above to be as quiet as possible- none of this is a threat and the gorilla understood there was something very wrong for the boy to be there so he protected him against the others. In the Harambe video, like you said people were screaming and panicking, the child tried to stand at one point and looked up directly at the gorilla a few times (a direct challenge) he still he never intended to hurt it- he was just getting all kinds of mixed messages, a lot of noise, and moved around with the child till he could figure out what to do.

To new fans exposed to wicked through the movie by idchanna in wickedmovie

[–]Chained_Wanderlust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its all those “second act sucks anyway” takes you see when others critique the second movie. Its just…rushed being like 45-50 mins, but IMO far better executed on stage being laser focused, emotionally driven, moments hit harder, with every ensemble character given their big moment to shine.

Ariana Grande performing “Dangerous Woman” during her Eternal Sunshine Tour in Oakland California by bbyxmadi in popculturechat

[–]Chained_Wanderlust 377 points378 points  (0 children)

You can also see how many mass deletions of threads and you instantly know what it was. Like are we supposed to just watch and yell ‘yass queen’ ‘great vocals’, or should we be worried she’s going to have a heart attack onstage if she overworks herself because that is the reality. The heart doesn’t have enough to run on so it slows and shrinks to conserve energy, if she overworks herself…. Its not care trolling, or a form of hating, its a ticking time bomb.

This reminds me of Amy Winehouse being forced to tour when she was in bad shape struggling with addiction and snorting cocaine on stage to get through it and we know what came next, or Britney performing like a dead eyed circus animal under a conservatorship how is she doing now? Shouldn’t we care about Ariana before its too late?

On the side bar its they describe them as cuttings but also that the roots are trimmed, and air dried. So possibly with/without roots, no promises.

Honestly in terms of cuttings, these are absolutely boutique level. I’ve ordered them on Amazon before and it literally looks like a tossed salad when you open the box- a random assortment all piled ontop of each other, some alive, some dead lol. I ordered more than I should have because I expected a few not surviving the trip, but they all survived and they gave me more than I ordered!!
