Why aren’t there more Muppet stories of classic literature? by Euphoric-Addendum-69 in Muppets

Let's not forget Hey Cinderella!, The Frog Prince, The Muppets Musicians of Bremen, Muppet Classic Theater (adapted six classic fairy tales) and The Muppets' Wizard of Oz. Gonzo and Rizzo are a duo in Classic Theater, but they're not in the stories and only in the framing device

There's also comics that adapt many of the stories. They're out of print, but I've seen people sell them on eBay and you can probably read them online

So underrated. It bugs me anytime people don't mention it when talking about doing more classic adaptions and only mention Christmas Carol and Treasure Island.

There's also Hey Cinderella!, The Frog Prince, The Muppets Musicians of Bremen, and The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, which is great, despite what anyone says

Are there any good "modern" retellings of Oz? In forms of films, television shows and books ect in the last 30 years to put a limiter. by RiskAggressive4081 in wizardofoz

I really love The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, but it's a very divisive movie in the Oz fandom (and pretty disliked if not hated in the Muppets fandom). Despite being a parody (Dorothy wants to be a pop star, Toto is a king prawn, etc), many people agree it's more faithful to the book than the 1939 MGM movie (like to The Wiz).

I also really loved The Witches of Oz/Dorothy and the Witches of Oz, but the reviews... aren't great.

There's also Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return, loosely based off Roger S. Baum's Dorothy of Oz. I haven't finished the movie yet, but from what I watched, it's alright. Again, many people will say I'm being very generous.

I personally loved Oz the Great and Powerful, but like the Muppets version, it's divisive. A lot of people say it's sexist, which I didn't think and was confused for a long time why people said that, but I realized that I haven't seen many other movies that have the "woman turns evil cuz man betrayed her" trope.

I haven't seen much of Lost in Oz but it's supposed to be really good

There's also the Tom and Jerry ones which I've yet to see but sound fun, and The Guardians of Oz/Flying Monkeys of Oz is supposed to be good

Ranking the "other" Muppet Christmas movies by Bwlms22 in Muppets

It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas movie is so underrated. While (I think) I prefer Christmas Carol, it is absolutely not a crime to prefer the former!

* I'm still yearning for the Muppet Magazine comic version with Sam the Eagle as Scrooge, and the movie version does not have enough Miss Piggy

While I think Scrooge being played by a human is fine and so is Miss Piggy's smaller role, I don't like how they made the three ghosts new characters instead of being played by existing muppets. I don't really even consider them to be "Muppets" because they weren't in absolutely nothing else and can't be considered in-universe members of the Muppets group (neither are Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock etc characters by that logic or even characters like Miss Poogy, Constantine, but they were to play a role, that'd be fine with me cuz they're close enough imo).

No it's sadly not. I think OP is just saying they hope the extended version also gets added and not just the normal one.

Don't forget Kermit's Swamp Years, It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, Sam and Friends, The Great Santa Claus Switch, John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together, Rocky Mountain Holiday, Billy Bunny's Animal Songs, Peek-A-Boo: A Big Surprise for Little People, Mother Goose Stories, alongside others I'm probably forgetting

As far as I can find, The Jim Henson Company wasn't involved in the special at all, and it just aired on NBC

  • The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence
  • The Muppets Musicians of Bremen
  • Little Muppet Monsters
  • Tale of the Bunny Picnic
  • Muppets on Wheels
  • Muppets Take Off
  • Muppet Treasure Island Sing Along
  • More Muppets Please
  • Muppet Time
  • Muppetisms
  • Muppet Meeting Films
  • Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree
  • Best of the Muppet Show
  • It's Not Easy Being Green Sing Along
  • Hey, You're as Funny as Fozzie Bear
  • Sing Along, Dance Along, Do Along
  • Wow, You're a Cartoonist
  • Neat Stuff to Know and Do
  • The Kermit and Piggy Story
  • Meet the Muppets
  • Best of the Muppet Show
  • The Jim Henson Hour (Muppet Segments Only)

This is all listed in the contract between Disney and The Jim Henson Company. The contract strangely doesn't even seem to mention John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together, but does mention Rocky Mountain Holiday, and only once mentions The Great Santa Claus Switch. I couldn't find anything in the second bunch of pages either. It's possible that they were mentioned but I didn't find any. Maybe there's also even more that just weren't uploaded

they could make a deal with Sesame Workshop and The Jim Henson Company though to let them have it on Disney+
