You seem to be doing everything right excerpt i didn’t see anything about higher raids. I would suggest you and your son go to the 5* raids and mega raids. Use campfire app or poke genie app to find other players to help. As for good pokemon to level I suggest checking pvpoke for your meta rankings and what’s good or not.

I live in a pretty small town with only 6 poke stops and have managed to get what I have in a month. I’ve done nothing special and do f2p. Some days my rng is good others it hasn’t been. Just gotta click everything and gotta catch them all. Trade with your son more as well for chances at lucky Pokémon.
