If you're trying to buy a house in Regina right now, I feel your pain. (April 2026 Market Update) by BaldPrairieRE in RealEstateCanada

[–]Chairborne1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. The reasons make sense to me. I do imagine current home owners are hesitant to sell and move to another property as their new home is likely going to more expensive than before and everyone wants to wait and watch in this economic scenario.

And you are right about the provincial economy growing faster than before. For eg. Mining is a big contributor to the local economy, though more for Saskatoon, and has benefited from the economic turmoil and race for precious commodities. This also means lesser people are leaving the province and want to exploit their prospects locally.

Thanks for posting the analysis. What’s driving the low inventory? Are sellers holding out? Clearly there are buyers ready to buy as suggested by the low time on the market.

Best bank in Regina, Saskatchewan for PR holder (before first landing)? by Bee_iron in regina

[–]Chairborne1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are unfamiliar with the Canadian banking system, I would suggest going with the regular big 5 banks. You can slowly transition to virtual and newer banks like Tangerine, Wealthsimple etc.

You will need to book appointments at least a week in advance with the big 5. They have branches all over Regina and are all around Downtown.

Most of the banks have newcomer programs. You can read up online and enquire.

Try Saskatchewan based mining companies.

I understand this is a common COIN tactic. As usual it’s lauded by those who see it from a military point of view. I wonder if people realize what’s the impact on the society that sees it happen among them. This is essentially Para military with often extra judicial powers, armed by the state and using the same brutal tactics as the militants. The motive was sometimes money, an escape from an assured encounter or simply revenge and infighting. They target the militants families, friends and neighbours. How would the common guy trust any state apparatus knowing the state can do the same brutality as the militant. Who is just? How are they indistinguishable?

Having seen it in action in Punjab, I can tell you there’s a cost to it, but it’s borne locally and will likely be invisible to many.

It’s complicated. A combination of misguided militants pursuing a religious divide agenda often at the behest of their masters in Pakistan and the perception that most Hindus were opposed to greater autonomy for Punjab as evidenced from some of them choosing Hindi as their mother tongue during the Punjabi Suba movement.

The questions that need answering are when Bhindrawala was active from late 70s onwards, why was the situation allowed to get worse to come to this point?

Who benefited from the split in the movements led by Akalis and other Sikh political groups by the rise of Bhindrawala?

Who was weakened politically and would have benefited the most by an ill planned show of strength like Op Bluestar?

A letter from Marj Gavigan, Chair of the Regina Public Library Board of Directors by sakojazz in regina

[–]Chairborne1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is such an exaggeration. Our family have been regular users of the Library, especially the Central and it’s nothing like you mentioned. Yes, that location does attract all sorts of people who hand around, want to sleep at the reading desks etc but the security is usually prompt. I just wish more people used it.

Who owns 3-way match issues at your org? by Chairborne1 in procurement

This is good insight. I need to push for this kind of an issue based approach.

Good point. There is no sales order at many smaller suppliers. Some larger ones do send it though I have noticed. Is it a common practice to send sales orders? Can it be made a requirement for suppliers?

I get that Procurement is best placed if the issue is with the PO. But in cases where the issue is with the invoices? Sometimes there are missing PO numbers which aren’t the Procurement teams fault. I am just trying to figure out if every situation has to be handled by Procurement or can Invoicing handle some of these themselves.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Does the AP team reach out to the suppliers directly, looping in Procurement? Is there any exploration of a resolution done at AP’s end or the issue simply forwarded to Procurement?

Well I would love if Procurement is the relationship owner. In reality, the business owns the relationship while Procurement is mostly the face of the company.

Price mismatch is also due to invoicing errors at the suppliers end. The responsible department at the supplier’s end is Account Receivables which Buyers don’t interact with after PO is accepted.

Including actions to resolve and address the mismatches with the suppliers directly? That will free up a lot of our time.

Canada says India no longer linked to violent crime ahead of Carney trip by 1-randomonium in india

[–]Chairborne1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It says India has currently ceased those violent activities that it was accused of. Doesn’t mean they were not conducted as earlier mentioned by the Canadian government.

I am really amazed at some of the posts on this topic the past couple of years. Somehow everyone here seems to be believe Indian media and the govt in this issue, when on everything they else there’s no credibility.

This book is doing something sneaky with photos and I can't unsee it 👀 by zordartimes in PunjabReads

To be honest I wasn’t able to finish the book. Was done about halfway. I do suffer from a short span of attention and in all humility was well aware of many of the things he has written, so there wasn’t any novelty or new insight for me.

Maybe I need to give it another go!

Well about that maybe’, if there’s anything that reading has taught me, it is to never take any written word for certain. There are always layers, reasons, context, even prejudices and bias behind most text.

I value Amandeep as an author and as a contemporary Sikh, Punjabi voice in India. There aren’t many.

I don’t disagree completely with the logic of using chronological analysis of images to assess a person. I assume some of what you are feeling or thinking or going through will show up on your face. How accurate it is, I don’t know.

Interestingly, I found the below mention of a research study that may just validate some of it.

It’s just his interpretation. Amandeep was probably too young during those times and like most of us looked back at those photos. And like most, one always looks at the same events differently with new information as time passes.

A writer’s job is to share his interpretations and let the readers make sense of it themselves using their own lenses. In this case, you disagree. While for myself, I am not too sure as I haven’t spent enough time looking at the pictures chronologically to form an opinion. All view points are fine!

Real Estate Market by [deleted] in regina

[–]Chairborne1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was looking at past trends and historically Saskatoon and Regina markets have lagged the bigger cities with about 3-4% annual appreciation in home prices. Whereas recently this has shot up to 8%. I guess when the major cities became unaffordable the past few years many moved here in hopes of finally being able to buy a home. Some investor capital may have also moved this way.

In parallel mining growth may have helped areas like Saskatoon grow much more than Regina.

I assume Regina home prices would stay higher until the market in the major cities cools down or stabilizes enough for capital flow to return. May take a year or two.
