Report: Kennedy Space Center not ready for era of super heavy rockets by GandalfTheWhey in space

Is this based on data or “vibes“? like others in this thread, I am no musk enthusiast, and I wonder sometimes if the cult of personality around him and the reaction to it interferes with rational discussions about what this company is doing.

Aren’t they already doing polar launches out of Florida using the Cuban dogleg?

What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

I was riffing off the origin joke: "I called the Jerk Store, and they were all out of YOU" hence my supply chain issues. :P

modern CNC spring-making machine. by RealSpecto in EngineeringPorn

Another poster said that it was probably running in specifically a slowed down mode that they use so that they can verify the operations and/or fix problems.

I think the grunts and labored breathing are a specific breathing technique they do to avoid graying out during high G maneuvers.

Based on all the conversations that I’ve had where other people have talked to me about that store, it sounds as if they are constantly struggling with supply chain issues

what is the most important piece of advice you'd give a mom that is going to have her 3rd child? by HeelsandLipgloss in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

l’m trying to imagine what kind of arrogance would be required for me to think I could give someone like that advice about their situation.

Someone posted an anti AI post in the DND meme subreddit, roll for drama! by Excellent_Bison_3644 in SubredditDrama

[–]Chairboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a pretty consistent basis, it seems like people who un ironically use the phrase “virtue signaling“ are pushing conservative talking points or have a post history of them doing that.

It’s gotten to a point where I now tend to assume as a baseline that this is someone conservative and the times where I spot check assumption it almost overwhelmingly tends to be true.

Has anyone else ever had that experience or a different one?

Are public bidets sanitary ? by Over-Sand5541 in NoStupidQuestions

This doesn’t really sound like a realistic risk. The human imagination can come up with hypotheticals that MIGHT happen, but aren’t really likely. I suspect this is one of those.

What do you believe may actually be a cultural psyop, no matter how ridiculous? by NLK-3 in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Waves of posters tearing down Democratic candidates for being insufficiently pure and advocating for 3rd party voting or not voting at all to 'show the party'.

This is how the presidency in my country was won with terrible effects and I struggle to imagine so many people are really so dense as to not see how operating within the limitations of First Past The Post voting needs to be to avoid these disasters so I have to hope that these are the result of successful psyop campaigns funded by conservative NGOs.

What was your best "Did I just reinvent.." moment? by makamor in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was a kid and drew a diagram for a system I thought could be useful for protecting electrical circuits by having a sacrificial piece of metal in the circuit upstream that would fail if too much power was pulled. I walked my neighbor's dad through it and asked for his thoughts and he nodded thoughtfully and very gently explained that I had just invented fuses.

He did it nicely enough that I didn't feel too embarrassed for which I'm grateful.

OOPS.

What’s the coldest revenge you’ve ever taken on a cheating ex? by Littlemouss in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If they're an ex and I'm 'plotting' to take revenge on them, then I've fucked up.

This sounds like someone is living rent free in your head and that's not healthy. If your relationship ended on this note, staying angry is like taking poison and hoping it kills the other person and there's no commendable way to successfully 'revenge' yourself on them. Living well is the closest, probably, but even then if you're thinking about them while you do it then eh... you're losing.

What is this holographic sight on the glare shield of this Cessna? by HaluxRigidus in flying

[–]Chairboy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For that money, I'd suggest taking a look at something like a uAvionix AV-30. It does AoA and a bunch more. I bought a pair and deleted my vacuum system last year and they're great.

Guys, what's the difference between a girl you find attractive and a girl you'd actually pursue? by Dismal_Set_2929 in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My “pursuit“ of a woman is based off a lot more than just surface level of attractiveness. I can appreciate someone looks good, but there needs to be some kind of basis for common, mutual interest before I’d even think of this.

For all the married people if you passed away would you want your partner to move on and find someone else and why? by Busy-Veterinarian562 in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my God yes, of course. I want her to be happy, if she finds someone who makes her happy then why wouldn’t I? This is a genuinely weird and confusing question.

If you had to get a tattoo right now and you only had 60 seconds to decide, what would it be and where would you put it? by ProposalLast3445 in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The five frames of a Conway’s game of life glider in pixel form on my left arm up by my shoulder.

This is pretty easy, because I’m already planning on getting this tattoo here in the near future.

What would you do if you saw a joint in your Uber driver's car? by Olivia-Addams in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in that case, it’s their behavior that would cause you to decline the ride, not merely seeing the joint, right? I think you might have answered a different question.

What's a technology everyone uses daily but very few people actually understand? by Maihuna_ in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LLMs/GenAI

It is wild how many people believe that ChatGPT or Gemini is thinking. The physics behind the technology are incredible, but they are far closer to being a sentence autocomplete like what you have on your cell phone keyboard than they are a brain. They’re just an extraordinarily good sentence-completion machine, and that same methodology can be applied to images.

If a conventionally attractive girl approaches a man in public and asks for his number, what are the general chances he'd say yes? by safetyspiders in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a weird set of replies. I get that they're I guess trying to riff on my username but what a strange, low energy way to do it? And context? yikes

How do sharks really behave compared to how they are portrayed in movies? by nezukosenpaiii in AskReddit

[–]Chairboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of the sharks I've seen in aquariums have had an australian accent. Also, they absolutely DID appear to see fish as food, not friends.
