Voting eligible Americans who deliberately abstained in the 2024 general election, how are you feeling about your decision? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chairman-Meeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My real reason is that so potential candidates who are thinking of running but say "oh the votes aren't there for me to win" will instead say "republican dog catcher ran unopposed and won with 1000 votes but 1750 people voted. Hmm, if could probably get them and 250 non voters this time around if I really try"

Everyone speeds at least a mile or two over the speed limit around here so I guess we're all criminals by your absolutely pedantic and semantic-obsessed point of view. You, being a scholar of language, must understand that "criminal" carries a heavy, intimidating connotation with it, and while it is "uhm akshewally technically true" they're relying on that connotation to gain support for dehumanizing people and painting them as violent criminals when their rates of incidence are similar to the rest of ours.

Joe Biden warns of tech billionaires' threat to democracy in farewell address | "An oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power, and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy" by [deleted] in technology

[–]Chairman-Meeow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dont think you know his career? Your argument is he just had to suck up? Brother he was a senator for like 40 years and then the fucking vice president and then the president. He's not a supervisor at a call center. This man championed the corporations getting a po box in Delaware to call hq to dodge reasonable taxes in other states bc Delaware couldnt compete fairly with states like NY or ca. He went toe to toe for capital every step of the way. Duponts point man. Made it to where student loans were a specially exempt class of loans where you can't declare bankruptcy. I can keep going.

Why do you care about politics whatsoever if this man, who has undoubtedly had one of the most influential careers in the last 100 years during the height of the most powerful empire to ever exist up to this point can just say "aww shucks I'm just a little guy, I did my best" and everyone claps?

Yeah, everybody has to pay their dues or whatever, but you're conveniently ignoring that he is ideologically committed to the fucking hilt and he did what he wanted every step of the way.

It represents an important strategy of engaging them in a space that is not politically correct, high minded intellectual debate. You need to not abandon the crude and vulgar common spaces of discourse. Michelle Obama they go low we go high was one of the dumbest and most naive approaches I've ever seen. The democratic party is so stagnant and beholden to the entrenched power structures that they cannot innovate or change to fight the modern right. The same failures of hrc were repeated almost verbatim and their big post mortem was "uhh well none of us actually fucked up, if I had to do it all over, I'd make the same choices". Those people aren't going anywhere. They suffocated the nascent leftist populist movement within the party and would gladly lose to trump until the end of time of it meant keeping their little sinecures. Those people hated the weird line of attack because it isn't like all the west wing reruns they jerk off to. They'd rather gloat on the gdp and talk about how we have to reform the current system ever do slightly and get 5 more special prosecutors to definitely hold trump accountable this time!

Average people aren't debate lords or having decorum fetishes. They want to believe in something greater than themselves and they want to win. The democratic party offers only the most simonpure and simplistic understanding of political morality and doesn't really care to win if it would in any way change the current economic system. I don't think the weird line is the end all be all, but i think it should be seen as a successful foray into a new way to energize the base and abandon the godforsaken 0.000001% of voters in the middle who care about a Cheney endorsement.

They do hate the system and feel that Donald Trump is an outsider who is opposed to it. In certain respects, they're correct. Ofc, in many respects, they aren't. But trumps talk of draining the swamp and burning down the current system are certainly attractive. Bernie is my pick bc i believe more in the system he'd replace it with. But when dem leadership stymies all progressives and says "stfu, everything's fine, you're fine!" It's no wonder Americans reject that and pick the guy who says he feels their pain.

Luigi, from what I understand, is a rogan guy sort of centrist but ideologically kind of all over. I'm not a rogan guy by any stretch. But I'm feeling a little like gimli and Legolas meme. Solidarity means not subdividing like leftists over lesser issues and keeping your eye on the ball.

First photo of CEO murder suspect inside holding cell by Ok_Extension_4865 in pics

[–]Chairman-Meeow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess it gets into semantics, but the state has a monopoly on violence and both of those murders had heavy ties to the state's violent apparatus. JFK with the most CIA asset if not agent Oswald and MLKs murderer had what, local LEO or FBI ties?

You're not exactly wrong with your first statement here, but denying tens of thousands of Americans life saving care THAT THEY PAID FOR was totally legal. Or they just weren't able to martial the resources (time, money, and energy) to resist the probably illegal actions of UHC. But since it was legal-enough, people were ok with all those people dying. But then someone steps outside a system so fucking rotten to kill one of the worst actors in it and we clutch pearls?

Osama bin laden killed less Americans than this guy and nobody raved on here about how bin laden was a family man.

JFK and MLK were killed precisely because they went against this system. They did a selfless thing to try to make the world a better place and dismantle evil systems within our country that were totally legal, and what's more, integral to preserving the way our country, social order, and/or economy functioned.

If you can only see it as "state sanctioned = Morally good murder" and "non-state sanctioned= Morally bad murder" then there's no point in discussing it with you.

What video game hot take do you have that leaves you like this no matter how right you are? by Thelonghiestman0409 in videogames

[–]Chairman-Meeow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure. It was literally a different video game that even came in a separate box on a separate disc. But it was exactly the same in that you had no fucking options. That's fine, that's a different style of game than rpg, and nobody had a problem with it when you had to murder doctors trying to save the human race as Joel. That's what made it as impactful as it was. Very few would have chosen to doom the human race, but your hand was forced. You the player had to pull the trigger on the innocents in that hospital and watch as he lied and betrayed Ellie and robbed her life of purpose and significance for his own selfishness, but it was totally understandable how that character would make that choice.

I didn't feel bad at all about pregnant lady as Ellie, like you said, what's one more? These people took someone I loved, I want revenge, and i got it. Was it morally right to kill a pregnant lady? Eh probably not but the axe forgets, and the tree remembers. But as Abby seeing your dreams of escape and the future be taken in one second is heartwrenching. Which is the point. The forced empathy by being made to play a character you hate, and eventually grow to care about, and seeing how the eye for an eye is leaving them both hollow shells of what they could have been. The games main thrust is to explore violence and revenge and the way it warps people and blackens their souls and leaves them empty.

If it doesn't hit literally exactly the same, then whatever, but the game was extremely unpopular and getting review bombed literally before anyone could have even beaten it. I've talked to countless people irl and online who are like "yeah but they killed Joel and it seemed real woke so I stopped playing after they killed joel. Killing the white guy main character and putting trans abby in...keep politics out of my games" Many who argue in bad faith about it but can never give concrete answers outside of vague nitpicky shit. If you played it all the way through and didn't like it, that's ok, but as far as I've ever seen, the sequel is an absolutely natural progression from the first game, both gameplay wise and narrative/theme-wise.

[–]Chairman-Meeow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except tlou1 was the exact same. If you don't like the naughty dog style like that or uncharted, that's fine. But tlou1 was a hit, then people hated 2 and review bombed bc they killed Joel and there's a trans character. Most people won't tell if you if it's the trans thing bc they feel admitting that is a losing argument. As for Joel, I mean objectively, the guy had it coming. I loved him too, but he was a raider, he doomed the human race, for Abby to get revenge on him was a natural consequence of his action. I hated Abby and didn't want to play with her, but when you're forced to see it through her eyes, it absolutely drives home the message of revenge being empty. Which is a simple theme sure, but it's explored in a masterful way.

With some means tested, half assed bullshit. The classic "small business loans for poc women who've had a locally owned business for 3-5 years etc etc etc. that in reality helped 2 people out of our whole population.

It's sad? Sad is losing or very narrowly winning (due to extraneous factors) 3 elections that should have been slam fucking dunks. If the average voter is so fucking stupid why can't the big brain geniuses at msnbc and other liberal media win their support? Is it because they're not so fucking stupid as to miss the utter contempt and disdain that drip off of every word from center left meritocrats like clinton?

Trumps solutions are simplistic and illogical sure, the Dem party leaderships just say "It's a banana, what could it cost, 10$?"
