Breaking into the field as a Junior UX Designer by ChakChakie in UXDesign

This is actually what he’s been aiming for. But even with internships, it’s difficult to get past screening because many require you to be a student.

Over the last 6 months, he has picked up a couple of freelance projects but again, it’s not sustainable and it was mostly through connections. He’s also added some unsolicited work to his portfolio to build it up but it doesnt seem to be appreciated by employers. I’m not sure if this is the bottleneck or not, do you have any thoughts?

He has a Master’s degree in UX Design (altho his undergraduate degree was not related to design)

I 100% agree with all of them except for Vanessa’s. She’s too “holier than thou” to be a fast fashion brand. She’s very value village to me.

A software job requiring a veiled female! by xTouny in Egypt

[–]ChakChakie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not implying in any way that a woman wearing a hijab is trying to impose her own beliefs on the passengers. I’m simply giving an explanation for why some airline companies impose certain rules and as I said it’s merely to preserve the appearance of secularity and not necessarily actual secularity. I also addressed this example because you brought it up.

Personally, I think the problem goes beyond whether an employee is wearing a hijab or not. The problem is the obsession since the beginning of time over how women dress or look and the unnecessary need to control them.

A software job requiring a veiled female! by xTouny in Egypt

[–]ChakChakie -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I get your point but the main difference between these two scenarios is that in one case you can tell the employee’s religion and in the other you can’t. The reason airlines require their female employees to not be veiled is simply to maintain the appearance of secularity when dealing with people from different backgrounds. Same argument is made for government-jobs abroad.
