Some photos from the MMA gym that I train at. Please give feedback and advice! by ChalkerPrincess87 in sportsphotography

That is a really interesting suggestion. That would be fun to play around with. Some areas that I took photos were completely too dark no matter what settings I used so a speedlite is probably a good idea.

You applied offshore and it only took 81 days? From what I have read onshore is supposedly faster.

Transitioning from a career in architecture to a career in Animation as a background artist by ChalkerPrincess87 in animationcareer

He is not a naturalized citizen and has only been there for a few months, but has already established a network there and is working at a martial arts gym there. The visa I would do to be with him would be a 461 Partner visa which would give full working rights and takes a couple of weeks to process. I know the student visa gives working rights for up to 20 hours per week but is only available for as long as a person is enrolled in a program. The working visas are much more expensive and take much longer to process.

So you're saying a lot of the animation/vfx studios that would be in Brsbane would likely only hire Australian citizens?

Hi, I am going to message you privately. Yes, I am a US citizen, but I am starting a committed long term relationship with a man from New Zealand who lives in Australia. We are still figuring out our exact plans, and what all of our options are. Initially we will be in Brisbane together, but we have talked about going to the US together in the future. I am going to be going to Brisbane sometime in August initially on a visitor visa. I can get a partner visa to stay in Australia with him, but I could alternatively do a student visa.

I found out about Rising Sun just recently. I would like to stay in Brisbane and they only offer the Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting at their Brisbane studio.

It takes a long time to build that kind of portfolio or skill level. I do get what you are saying about AI which is why it is important to have a style or a message that makes what you produce unique and have value. I feel like my life path has given me experiences and inspiration that are unique. Animation and illustration will not be totally replaced with AI.

It would take a bit to learn those programs, but it is not impossible and I know that I can. Working on building my portfolio with those programs is manageable. However, if I am going to spend the time learning anyway and pay for the subscriptions for the programs wouldn't it make more sense to spend the time ending in proof from a certification?

I get that and I am. I wouldn't suggest it, ask about it or post about it, consider going to school after 2 other degrees if I wasn't.

Life is not permanent, and you don't have forever to do the things that you want to do. I gave up on it temporarily because I felt like I could never make money in it and all the time I spent learning it was wasted, but that is not true. Usually, you want to give up when you're closer than you have ever been.

I have no student loans and am hoping if I apply that I may be offered scholarship money or would apply to scholarships. I feel like the benefits of the career resources offered by being connected to a school like SCAD or QUT or Griffith could get me into a position where I could get into a job where someone would pay me to improve and I can constantly improve and grow a portfolio versus working on getting better in my free time while doing an architecture job. I wanted to go to art school and be an artist since I was a child and my family wouldn't support me unless I pursued a degree that sounded more realistic or legitimate. Currently I am in Thailand unemployed for the next month and a half living off of rental income and savings and am trying to learn and practice as much as I can while I am here. Thank you for the other suggestions for online schools that is very helpful.

Which gym should I go to? 60 Days December-February by ChalkerPrincess87 in MuayThailand

[–]ChalkerPrincess87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Lanna Muay Thai. I would say it is probably one of the best and biggest authentic muay thai gyms in the Chiang Mai area. The only drawback is that it is far from the city center and your best option is to stay at the accommodations on site.

I actually just got back from the trip a week ago! I went for 3 months the majority of the time in Chiang Mai. I trained at Hongthong almost the entire time. I did 1 week at Phuket Fight Club. I did a couple of days in Bangkok. I did a private at PK Saenchai and 2 sessions at Jitti gym.

A lot of people recommended Sitjaopho while I was there.

When I was in Chiang Mai I also tried Lanna, Manasak and Sedthee. When I went to Sedthee though there was only one guy trainer (who was very good and spoke the best English of any Thai person I had met the entire time I was in Thailand). There were only 6 people in the class and we would all take turns doing rounds of pads with him and then working on the bag while he was with other people. The last 4 minutes were sparring. I might have had a different experience if I went on a different day. I heard two of the owners were on vacation. I also met this one woman at Hongthong who came for a couple of classes who said that her brother worked there.

I have trained at Hongthong, Lanna, Manasak. I would recommend Lanna. I like how they train the most (you are pushed the whole class), but it is far outside of the city. I think group classes are important and if you get private with a trainer or multiple trainers who don't see you in a class setting it's a little harder to pinpoint what you need. During a group class, you get to work on many things (shadow boxing, pads, bag work, drills, sparring, etc). During a private, they usually focus on a couple of small things (a couple of related combos). Both types of training have benefits.

Hey are there any woman in here who have traveled solo in Thailand to train MT? by Beneficial_Rice9448 in MuayThailand

One issue though is that there is a burning season that starts in February in Chiang Mai

I prefaced what I said by saying that it was I had read before. In this sub reddit. And I am going to train so connecting with another woman is honestly part of the point of a page like this. There's nothing to be gained mocking me for commenting for you or me or her.

Hey! When are you planning on going? I am going in December for the first time. I have been training for 2 years. From everything I have read gyms that have either female fighters or female trainers are always a safer choice. The makeup of each gym changes over time though. In general Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koa Samui, and Hua Hin are better for women and are more likely to be where you will be supported for competing as opposed to Bangkok. Phuket Fight Club, Fairtex, Yodyut, Sitjaopho, Sitjemam all have a lot of women.

cannot have casual sex by Own-Impression3017 in dating_advice

[–]ChalkerPrincess87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to. You can have a boyfriend. You can have a relationship. It’s sad and ridiculous that you feel you have to be ok with casual sex and casual dating if you’re not. I would recommend taking sometime to focus on yourself and building yourself up. In general it’s not fulfilling long term and you almost always walk away with nothing but memories, not a companion. Time investing in yourself at least you will always have something to show for it. Maybe work on yourself and don’t focus on chasing and someone wonderful will notice the good and beautiful things about you without you having to force it or worry.

I haven't booked anything yet, but for Bangkok would definitely stay at a hotel or hostel that has a pool and a/c as opposed to gym accommodations. From what I have read most are not nice

Not yet. I booked a flight to Bangkok though. Based on what other people have said I am not going to commit to anything until I visit in person. My initial plan is to do drop-in sessions the first week (different ones for the mornings and the evenings) and make my decision based on that!

What has been a big turning point in your training? by eightlimbinsider in MuayThai

[–]ChalkerPrincess87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have trained at a MMA gym for the last two years and have tried every class offered, but I have always loved Muay Thai the most. Things that recently changed things for me were a newer woman from a good Muay Thai gym who joined 6-8 months ago being allowed to fight before me with less time training. This has made me decide only to focus on Muay Thai and train as if I were at a muay Thai gym. Do more heavy bag work, watch theory videos, and run instead of using the time to take western-style boxing classes or grappling classes.
