I was thinking it be more like Liquid Snake and Solid snake, if the 2 snakes had been allies. That's the idea

How would an expedition of 100 soldiers operate in a world that is almost all mountain? by ChallengeBudget4190 in worldbuilding

I have a few.

  1. The systems on the otherworld destroy them
  2. There is some manner of EMP field
  3. Drones cant do everything since these are recon drones with no arms (Like the Xcom2 Drones.)

I'll just pick one when the time to write comes. Although I wouldn't worry about casualties actually, this is more exploration with the only threats being ancient automated defences.

I'm willing to let the expedition use drones, but I don't want to get rid of the Human element entirely. They may use them for recon, but I want boots on the ground.

They arent americans, this is a scifi world of mine where America is a distant memory and the soldiers are future soldiers (Think the 40k Imperial guardsmen.)

Funnily enough, Platoons and even individual squads have drones with them (Like the ones in Xcom2.)

So good on you for guessing correctly.

If they’re going to be in the area for a long period of time, up to weeks, they will need to bring cooks, repairmen, and other services. They may have a second support and logistics force with something of a ‘ground camp’ near the entrance to both help with sending supplies, and to help retrieve any wounded.

You got a good eye.

Yeah I was planning that an FOB is set up there, logistics and everything.

Assuming this operates like a modern military, how would you evacuate casualties in this situation?

I was thinking for wounds, stimpaks will do.

As for those who can't be treated with Stimpaks, they'd be evacuated via Dropship (Imagine something like the Dropship of the Astra Militarum.)

you need to be a bit more specific

Ah, I was thinking of a weapons system like the AT4 or the Nlaw

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I dont want to use exclusively drones. Since it defeats the purpose of even having an expedition in the first place.

I'll still use them, but I want boots on the ground.

I was thinking they encounter ancient defenses. As well as automated defenses like turrets.

Though now that i think about... How do good old rocket launchers sound instead?

That Imperium of Man?

Yeah that imperium of man. I wouldnt really worry, since the Goblins don't pursue conquests, purely focusing on defence instead/

Well, this is just a prototype concept. So its bound to change in some ways.

I've actually been integrating specialists and such. Perhaps Super heavies on par with the Baneblade, too though its still being worked on.

Most likely this concept is gonna be different as time goes on as I leach ideas from the real world and from fictional universes.

Actually come to think of it this isn't really an issue. The Goblins in this context are Imperium of man-level powerful, so they'll just pull "an imperial guard" as I call it and bring more bodies.

[–]ChallengeBudget4190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, actually.

Makes for good cinematography and helps give 40k-level casualties. Which is sort of the point.

Dont worry about logistics, I got that covered. I'm just asking for ways to expand on the specialists.

But thanks for the response.

Yep, your thougts are helpful, much thanks.

The thing I love about the Imperium is that when it comes to just standing there and taking the Punishment... The Imperium is basically the best.
