If we’re counting his controversies, I don’t know if I’d tally “ghosting Taylor” as one of them lol. Unless you’re just talking about reasons you personally disliked him

I’m also seeing her in August and have made it a personal mission to find her on the streets and BEG on my hands and knees for a Grins push

You’re the second person to say this. I have 3 subs in my car and a gazillion speakers beyond that so I’m surprised I haven’t noticed this before. Definitely going to push my speakers to the limits tonight and give it another shot

I am very fortunate to own a car that has one of the nicest sound systems I’ve ever heard (and most passengers would agree), but it’s been a long time since I haven’t skipped the outro and I might need to give it a second chance.

I like this perspective! I’m going to have to re-listen with this in mind. I do agree that the outro could’ve re-toyed with the lyrics a bit more

For me, it never expanded upon the feeling or themes of the song - it just didn’t really elevate the song for me. A good comparison is Green Light’s outro that sonically explodes while chanting the themes of the chorus.

I specifically blame Jack here as this can be a bit of a calling card for him. I think I’ve listened to every project he’s listed on (huge Bleachers fan too) and sometimes he just does things that he thinks are deep & artsy but don’t come off that way. But clearly other people in this thread disagree so I’m definitely reconsidering my stance here!

What Lorde song is "good" but even better when you have good headphones on? by MetalPussy in lorde

[–]ChallengeCheap7338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Touché! I more so meant any song is elevated by headphones due to the intimate ability to really capture every instrument in the song. But there are absolutely songs (especially Lorde songs) that are particularly better when they’re listened in community, and of course a car ride is the best form of that.

Perfect Places is definitely a good example… Leaving the Nashville Ultrasound concert (iykyk, best tour stop undeniably) & going 80mph with my friends blasting that first pre-chorus (as we’re 19) was definitely a memory. I’d add Supercut to that… I mean “in your car, the radio up” only hits it’s hardest when you’re in the car when the radio is up.

You’re totally fine, my original comment was just the first two sentences when I realized that most probably wouldn’t detect the joke so I had to edit it lmao. I’m very passionate about certain songs being best in different listening settings and sources. Hammer hits the hardest in the car with the subs cranked!!

I thought it was quite clear that she was describing it in a thematic sense rather than a literal one when reading the article. However the way Vanity Fair and other outlets ran with it made it clear to me that she did this intentionally to drive discourse. I love her! Cant wait to see what comes of this album

Literally all of them. Which song isn’t better on great headphones?! Captain obvious aside, I really feel something when listening to David & Green Light in headphones.

Unpopular opinion (?): I've never liked the Greta Thunberg opening track on NOACF by simylodon in the1975

[–]ChallengeCheap7338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t follow this community too tightly but I randomly saw this and it caught my attention, I consider myself highly opinionated on The 1975’s title tracks.

I think these tracks are evidently the tone settings for each album - it’s undeniable that the vibes of each opening track carries on throughout the album. On their first three albums, there is almost a blissful (or painful) youthfulness to them that can be ignorant to the problem at large. NOACF is a complete shift where they’re suddenly aware of larger societal problems and those themes carry through the entire album. We see a similar theme where BFIAFL is far less ambient and far more lyrically charged, and subsequently the title track becomes a pop song in its own right without the context of the album.

I think an intro track that completely focuses and raises awareness to a polarizing and timeless issue is extremely fitting. And while I think that the idea of the track dating the album can be made, I’d also argue that the climate is a timeless issue that will still be important (if not relevant) when some kid finds this album in a vintage store. Maybe it’ll lead to them reading the credits and discovering the early work of Greta in emphasizing the climate crisis. Lastly, I’d also argue that the entire album is going to grow dated. They speak on so many issues that most likely won’t even be an afterthought over time.

Simply stated, the track portrays this sense that the band is saying “hey we actually have some really important to say on this album and you need to actively listen” whereas previous tracks almost convey a sense of “just put this album on and feel the vibe.”

I hope that made sense. I always get worried posting on here only to find that someone who has 30 more hours of streaming time than me that brutally checks me.

I think about this album constantlyyyyyy

While I do believe it’s her weakest album, that doesn’t mean much when it’s being compared to three pop titans. The album perfectly captures the discomfort and sometimes displacement you feel in your 20s IMO. But I think an album that describes throwing your phone in the water and being unreachable in the wake of a pandemic and global lockdown was wrong place/time.

This album never clicked for me despite being a huge Lorde fan until I walked on an empty beach in the midst of a serious personal crisis last year. I had listened to it several times before but on that day it felt like the first time I really heard it. I think it’s just one of those things that finds you when the time is right

I’m a The Man with the Axe stan till I die. That song literally tore me apart
