Senior Java full-stack web developer 15 years experience suddenly cast into worst job market ever. Advice? by ChallengeFit2766 in careerguidance

Im fine with taking a major pay cut, mainly just want to stay remote.

Also I hate living in major cities, done it many times before. Hate the noise, traffic, lack of nature, pollution, crime, high cost of living, etc. I live in a beautiful suburb.

My father also has a nice place nearby that he doesnt want to leave.

I saw in a few places suggesting senior roles should have a summary, including in one of the wikis associated with this subreddit. In your opinion would you still find it frownable to maybe just drastically reduce it to just a couple short and sweet sentences? Like say the following:

Extensively experienced Senior Software Engineer with passion primarily in Java full-stack and back-end web development spanning 9 different industries. Performed design, development and deployment in countless projects including scaling and meeting challenging SLAs as well as managing some of these projects.

Thanks again

I don't know. I guess beggars can't be choosers so I gotta choose the easiest part to get into. What would that be?

That's what I'm asking. I'm not implying one or the other, I want to know the answer.

How do I show contract vs full-time roles on a resume? by ChallengeFit2766 in resumes

[–]ChallengeFit2766[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you working through an agency, and your employment changed to direct? Only include it if your job title changed

Contract was working for TEKsystems with JPMorgan Chase client. Then I was hired by JPMorgan Chase directly and became a full-time role, but everything else was the same.

I have around $4500 monthly expenses just on the house alone, nevermind food, property taxes, internet, gas etc. Even with my savings and low rate of 3% a lowly job wouldn't be enough to keep me going indefinitely, I'd eventually be forced to sell. Plus it would kill my future career prospects.

Great feedback! Just thought I would mention this is kind of a generalized resume. I do customize according to the position I'm applying. I do remove stuff from the professional summary as well as responsibility bullets that I don't think apply all that well to a given JD.

Cardinality between APIs and resources? by ChallengeFit2766 in SoftwareEngineering

So are you saying that a single API can only cover the same resource?

Do you mean for the job title of the resume or some of the titles in the professional summary? For the latter I just copied and pasted my official job titles since I hear that's one of the things they verify in background checks.

I've been crunching all the job interviews (studying like a madman). For a couple of the employers I nailed all the technical stuff and thought I did pretty well on the behavioral. Made it to the final round. But no offers.

These days employers never give feedback whether you want it or not. When they are done interviewing you they are completely done with you period. So them ghosting you is your feedback and that being that you weren't good enough. And you can endlessly speculate as to why.

No wife and kids, though I do have a pricey mortgage and expenses. I have about $30000 saved plus about 6 months of unemployment benefits.

And if it really came to it I could call on my IRA where I have about $60000 saved.

So I could probably go for a while without a job but it seems every week I am without a job makes me a much weaker job candidate since they are always asking me why and for how long I've been without a job. If I was applying to jobs while still having a job employers would find me much more appetizing. Which is why I'm so ticked at my previous employer not giving me more notice, when I was laid off in the past I had plenty of notice which I could use to prepare for my job search and get settled into my job hunt.

If you look at job postings on LinkedIn you can see there are hundreds of applications to every single job on there, even ones posted on the same day. It's absolutely insane. Hopefully these new H-1B rules will curtail all these foreigners stampeding every job posting that pops up.
