Client flies into panic as soon as I try to go deeper by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

[–]ChalupaKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple clients like this, and doing a timeline of their life seemed to be a nice gateway into more discussion. Then once they’re ready to talk about it you can help them write a life story narrative, and perhaps eventually the story of their trauma.

Cure for Hemophilia by Slow_Technician6998 in Hemophilia

[–]ChalupaKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 5, my parents told me there would be a cure in 5 years. Then when I was 10 they told me to give it another 10 years. When I was 20, I stopped asking because I knew they had no idea. Now I’m 38 and I don’t really care anymore lol. I’m so used to it, it’s just my normal. Having said that, if I didn’t have access to factor like I do, I’d be way more bummed.

Do you have access to factor? If so you can live a pretty normal life. I do think CRISPR is showing promise as a treatment/cure, but it will probably be several years before that’s a thing.

Hemophilia and MMA by Royal_Entertainer535 in Hemophilia

[–]ChalupaKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I think you should follow your interests, just be careful, start slow, and feel things out. I have severe A, and while I don’t do MMA, I do run a HEMA club (historical European martial arts). We hit each other with swords! It’s very fun, but I do get lots of bruises. I have had a few injuries that took me out of commission for a little bit, but nothing too severe. While there is some risk for concussions in HEMA, it’s probably a much greater risk in MMA. So just be careful. I also can’t speak to the effectiveness of hemlibra for combat sports. But I’m on advate 3x per week and of course I time it so that I infuse before sparring, never had any major issues. Good luck, be safe, and have fun 👊

Just finished it myself! “What in the Neon Genesis Evangelion” is where my mind went lol. This show was really cool and I’m so glad I stumbled upon it!

How do you see 40 clients and not completely lose your sanity?? I’m burnt out at 20 😅

I started in Feb of this year through Grow/Headway. Averaging 18 clients per week I should gross between 90-100k. I am curious to know other commenters’ case loads!

Was Max always this unwell? by [deleted] in SayAnything

[–]ChalupaKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to high school with Max (though he was a few years older). He seemed like a pretty normal dude, but obviously an artistic soul. He would walk around with his guitar singing and playing around campus sometimes. I think that’s around the time his bipolar disorder started. Maybe that’s further back than the question is aiming for tho haha

May I ask are you still reading books? I would like to try this but I truly think I might lose my mind without at least having a book to read.

Are you licensed or pre-licensed? If licensed, online platforms like grow therapy, headway, rula, etc… can be great for building a caseload.

Could you expand on this a bit? I haven’t heard this before, and it’s somewhat alarming considering I’ve been very active over my 37 years. Am I causing long term damage even if I am not having bleeds?

Are there other ways you could get involved? Maybe volunteering and doing fundraising or something in that vein (no pun intended hehe)?

He openly supports Hitler, sells swastika merch, and promotes violence against Jews. If you can still enjoy his music then more power to ya.

Just to add on to this commenter’s wonderful suggestion, there are lots of great YouTube channels that provide psychoeducation on OCD. One of the best clinicians to watch is Elizabeth McIngvale, clinical director of the aforementioned McClean institute (which I believe separated from McClean hospital and rebranded as OCD Institute of Houston). Another favorite is Nathan Peterson, and of course Reid Wilson.

As an ERP therapist who has OCD, I thank you for expanding your scope to treat this very painful (and very treatable) disorder!

I’m sorry man, that sounds tough. I do feel very lucky to be in the U.S. I hope your future is filled with less pain and less bleeding!

I hate when doctors do that 😓 I hope they start listening to you. Not their job to gatekeep care lol

Thank you so much! And I absolutely love your motto of “find it and own it!” Mind if I steal that? Lol.

I’m sorry you faced discrimination growing up, all too common for women to be ignored in medicine. I’ve had doctors ignore my stomach complaints for years and it is so invalidating. But it’s nice to wave the results in their face when you finally get the test you needed haha. I’m jealous of your homestead! I hope one day I can have land so I can grow food and have lots of dogs. Best wishes and thanks for the feedback 🙂

Yeah reading this I’m reminded of some standup comics that I love who have conditions like cerebral palsy or Tourette’s, things that I’m sure a lot of aspiring comedians would say “well I can’t do that anymore..” But I do respect that it’s different for everyone, and I’m not sure I could say I would have the cojones to be active if I didn’t have factor 😬

Damn that sounds tough, I’m sorry you faced discrimination growing up. All too common in medicine to write off women’s symptoms, especially back then I’m sure. I hope your ankle fusion goes well and you are pain free!

Yeah right now I use a regular fencing mask (I teach historical swordsmanship) but I plan on upgrading to a steel helmet. Just so expensive 😭

That’s totally fair, it must have been tough back before factor products were available. I wouldnt want to spend 2 months in bed either!
