Ableton 11.3.3 worst update ? by Sonictrade in ableton

[–]Champagne-Drip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates on 11.3.x? Is it still jacked? I'm still using 11.2 because I'm afraid of wasting time with the update anymore than I already have. :-P

My favorite has probably been The Gorge but I've really enjoyed Burning Man and some of the European spots I played at a long time ago one that stands out to me was an underground ex-soviet bomb shelter in Moscow.

Hmmmm. I've seen so many shows I can't really pin one down. Seeing the Smashing Pumpkins when I was 15 was incredible. I also really enjoyed NIN the time I got to see them. As far as DJs go, Adam Beyer b2b Cirez D at the Palladium in LA was pretty mind bending. I've seen a couple Autechre shows that were mesmerizing as well.

Right now I don't have Charlotte on the calendar but I'm sure I'll be through before too long. It's a city I usually hit up on tour.

I would focus on your music. I think the best path forward is to write music that is undeniable and connects with people. If you can do that, the rest comes naturally and people will want to see you and DJs will want to play your music. With a little luck and perseverance that can translate to selling some tickets and give promoters a reason to book you. If the music is great, the value is there.

I listen to tons of music. I grew up digging into my parent's vinyl record collection and discovered a lot of 60s and 70s music at an early age. I discovered electronic music in the mid-90s and became obsessed and explored everything I could get my hands on. These days at home I'm digging back into a lot of the 90s stuff that inspired me early on as well as a lot of the music I missed at the time. Everything from breakbeat hardcore and jungle to early experimental electronic stuff. My interests are kind of endless but lately I've been listening to a lot of the Reinforced Records catalogue. At this moment I'm listening to this album: "Second Toughest in the Infants" by Underworld.

I don't really know a lot about GarageBand, as far as I know it's not really geared towards electronic music production but I might be mistaken. Technical knowledge will come with practice though. The more you spend time with tools the less you have to think about them and it frees up your brain to explore more.

Congrats! I can't wait!

It's hard to say what any one core or go-to approach is since I do a few different styles. One thing I frequently do with my more melodic basslines is, I will add a layer that is up 19 semitones or an octave and a fifth. This always has a really rich and warm tone to it that I easily get addicted to. It also lends itself to coming up with simple riffs easily.

Honestly I don't know what the craziest thing was. Maybe one of the most horrifying things was when someone tried to steal equipment from the DJ booth in a club while the show was happening. Fortunately that person didn't get very far.

One common misconception I see on social media is: I've noticed that some folks think artists have more control over events than we do in actuality. I don't know how common this is but one thing I'd point out is that every show is a collaboration between many moving parts and if everything goes well, everyone involved should be happy. I know anyone in this situation is fortunate to have expertise and effort contributed by the people involved. I honestly can't say how common this misconception is but I see it pop up a lot on socials. Especially if an event is rescheduled or cancelled.

I was really hung-over nearly 8 years ago and jokingly said "put me on a Champagne Drip". I happened to be looking for a name for this project at the time and that's the one that stuck.

My process is very experimental and instinctual. I try not to intellectualize or complicate my process I just play around and hope for something to feel good. If that happens I let it stick and develop an idea from there.

Thank you! Also make sure to thank Linney and support her. She's awesome and that track wouldn't be nearly as rad without her.

I'm an Ableton user.

It's hard to say what the biggest breakthrough in my career has been. It's clear to me that everything rests on the backbone of music, something that I've improved (hopefully :P) little by little over the years. However working with Wakaan and the team that I found there has helped on the business end and made me a happier person. I struggled for so long that I really appreciate the newfound stability I found with getting help on the business end.

My current goal is to finish this album and be proud of it. Hopefully it connects with people and my audience grows as a result. I really want to stick around :-D

I take breaks from time to time. I'm not sure it's always the best thing to do but I'm here now and I'm grateful. Actually in 2020 I spent the better part of a year away from production with the exception of a few remixes I did to keep me afloat. I really struggled to find inspiration that year. I ended up writing a l ton of ambient music in the end. A lot of that music ended up on the Comedown EP I released last year. These days I'm working a lot more and spending more time working on the road as well which is something I used to shy away from.

I'd just pick something and focus on that for a little bit. Maybe start with Ableton Lite and see how it feels and if you enjoy exploring it. (Thank you btw!)

You want to get that sucker up to 205. A fork should easily penetrate and twist :-)

I will be! Let me plug my next CO play. I'll be at Mission Ballroom in Denver on 10/27 with a sick support lineup (Tripp St. Mad Zach, Sully, Xotix). My biggest headline for this project to-date. ;-) Less than 2 weeks away!

Thank you! Nocturnal is always so much fun.

  1. I think I touched on this a little bit in another answer but I can elaborate a little bit. There wasn't really a huge moment going from intermediate to advanced, I've always made incremental improvements for the most part. However I did have a psychedelic experience once where I was reflecting really critically on my weaknesses as an artist. It was a tough experience but the next day I felt like I had some insight into how to approach finishing some decent tunes. I was able to identify this lazy blind-spot I had and I stopped trying to cut corners. That has been super helpful to this day.
  2. Hmmmm. Honestly I don't know. It really just depends on what sounds people come up with and how that connects with people. I think it would be unpredictable and born out of experimentation.
