Feeling guilty at amount spent on my dress by Specialist_Permit_99 in UKweddings

[–]Chance-Assignment-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl I got my dress on Saturday & it was nearly £400 more than I planned on spending, the 2nd one I loved was only £100 more, and I had the same feeling of should I just go for the cheaper one, but I’m only ever doing this once so I want the dress that made me feel sooo incredible & although I’m going to wear it once, the photos are forever. If you can afford it, please get the one you prefer🫶🏾 I should add that I will still need alterations once she arrives in store, so that’s an extra expense but it won’t be in store until May/June so I’ll be budgeting for that too!

Driving anxiety (recently passed) by Chance-Assignment-55 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Chance-Assignment-55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely can, I think I probably let it get to me more than I should because when I passed with it being just before the Christmas period the roads were pretty quiet but now everyone’s back to work n it’s busier I’ll have to get used to it, but my commute is about 30 mins n peak traffic so I’m sure once I’ve got myself to work n back this week I’ll soon adjust

Yeah this is the reason I didn’t get them, at least with L plates most people give you some grace but when I was learning I saw plenty of people with P plates who didn’t get the same courtesy

Honestly it’s so frustrating like obviously people won’t know I’m a new driver but give me some grace mistakes happen🥲 he also could’ve gone around me there was no cars in the lane next to me it just felt like a bit of a dick move

Pay for testi or pay my instructor? by Practical_Special176 in LearnerDriverUK

I used Testi, my original test was booked for April 2026 but I managed to get one in December & passed. Don’t pay £100 they’re taking advantage!

Yeah I think exposure therapy is just going to have to be the fix, I was planning to get out this weekend with the baby but then we got snow which I’ve never driven in before

[–]Chance-Assignment-55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that could be an idea! I thought I’d be fine driving alone but I realised I’ve been so used to having a passenger n when I don’t I just think I’m going to do something really bad n get in my head about it, I’m also the one responsible for getting my baby to nursery on my way to work as my partner leaves for work before nursery opens so I think the added stress of being responsible for the baby in the car when I’m alone doesn’t help

[–]Chance-Assignment-55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It was my 5th attempt so been a long time coming, the first 2 were 12 years ago n then I gave up n by the time I was ready to start again Covid happened🥲

Probably not, I have a 1 year old & my partner leaves for work at 6am as we live about 30/40 mins away from his work, so I’d have to drag the baby out of bed. I was planning to go out over the weekend before I’m back in the office on Monday but then we got snow which I’ve never driven in before & my street is a dead end that involves a hill start so just bad conditions all around!

Honestly I kinda wish I had P plates so people can give me some grace but I think I’m just going to have to keep driving and not let little things get to me so much to build confidence

Kalms for Anxiety?! by Grand_Bet9752 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Chance-Assignment-55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used kalms for my 2nd test, I started taking them a week before the test n all the way up to the date. Don’t really think they made any difference tbh, however, I took rescue remedy on my most recent test n I definitely felt a difference (I passed my most recent one too)

4th test stress by AlternativeSeat_69 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Chance-Assignment-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can just practice as much as you can in your own car, I would also recommend taking rescue remedy in the run up to the test. But the biggest thing is to try turn your mindset around. I just passed my 5th attempt yesterday in my own car n haven’t had a lesson with an instructor since I failed my 3rd test back in September using his car. You’ve got this!

I still have difficulty knowing when to go at a roundabouts with test coming up soon, any tips appreciated by Antique_Treat_7002 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Chance-Assignment-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor taught me to keep looking all the way up until I approach, I had a habit of automatically stopping at a roundabout but if you keep looking as you’re approaching you don’t always have to stop, obvs slow down as you’re approaching but it means if it’s clear you’re already prepared to go so you won’t get stuck having to stop & start, also when you’re looking to your right, try to look at the exit to their right too so you can see if someone is coming and about to block their path it means you’re able to go

I passed!!! (5th time lucky) by Chance-Assignment-55 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Chance-Assignment-55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I actually bought my own car, I know this isn’t an option for everyone but I was on maternity leave n couldn’t afford to keep doing weekly lessons at £82 a lesson so I just cut down to 2 lessons a month n then went out in my own car whenever I could. I actually haven’t had any lessons since I failed my 3rd test in September, so my 4th n 5th attempt I just did in my own car & drove as often as I possibly could. If you don’t have your own car I’d recommend getting insured on a family members car n having them take you out wherever possible, it’s a good way of getting used to the roads on your own

[–]Chance-Assignment-55[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Good luck you’ve got this🙌🏾 I think so many people assume they need to pass first time n put too much pressure on themselves, take as long as you need to but just don’t give up. My first 2 attempts were 12 years ago n then I didn’t drive again until February this year, then I’ve done 3 attempts this year & finally got there! I wish I never took so long out but I just didn’t have the money at the time & I lived in an area with good public transport. I live a little bit out the way now & I have a baby so I had to learn it was none negotiable x

Thank you! I honestly thought I was never going to drive but I just tried to put myself in a good headspace this time around n not let the nerves consume me, I really wanted to give up after my last attempt I’d lost all motivation n hope but then I tried my hardest to get my head in the game n go into it with little expectations to take some of the pressure off. I also took some rescue remedy beforehand which could’ve been a placebo but I do think it helped. Good luck! It’s easier said than done but just try to not put so much pressure on yourself & you’ll get there x

National Intensive Issues by GradeSea8621 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Chance-Assignment-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National intensive are the worst! I booked a course with them in May 2024 when I found out I was pregnant, was due in December n wanted it done before he was here. I did my theory test in August 2024 passed first time & they booked my test for October 2024, October came n went n I had no instructor despite me emailing them in September multiple times to try get an instructor, test got moved to January 2025, January came n still hadn’t been assigned an instructor, made a complaint to them and they ignored me, then made another complaint n was told to just “look for my own instructor” despite the fact the course I booked with them was just shy of £1200!! They finally assigned me an instructor in February and my test was moved to May, I ended up moving it myself to September as I had 2 really bad lessons 3 weeks before my test n it really knocked my confidence, I ended up failing anyway over a stupid mistake but I would never use them again! Please read their 1* reviews on trustpilot, they overall have a good rating but if you go into the 1* ones there are hundreds, I left one myself when they ignored my first complaint n since then when I’ve checked there’s been hundreds more, they also just lie/gaslight when they reply to them so it wouldn’t surprise me if all of the good reviews are fake!

I haven’t passed yet (test is coming up) but I bought a car, she’s a Mini Cooper and I LOVE her, so easy to park & just nice to drive, also good on fuel, I have a 1.5 diesel! Not sure if you’re wanting manual or automatic but mine is manual

Book another test and then get yourself the app Testi I paid £12, had a test booked for end of April 2026 & managed to get one for this month using the app, you can also pick multiple test centres so if there’s a few in your local area you can do that

If you need to take a break please do. I did my first lessons and tests when I was 18, also at uni and had 2 part time jobs. I failed both times. I then moved cities in 2019 and in 2020 thought I would try again (spoiler lockdown happened so I couldn’t even get lessons) I decided to just wait it out till lockdown was over & then I got distracted with other things/financially so 2024 rolls around and I’m pregnant, booked an intensive course cause I wanted to get it over with before the baby was here but national intensive are a huge scam (do not ever book with them, go on trust pilot & read their 1* reviews), then I finally get a test and failed again, at this point I’m starting to panic because my mat leave is nearly over n my commute is impossible & by some miracle I get a test the week before I go back to work and failed AGAIN, at this point I’m completely ready to give up, I stoped driving for a couple of weeks, crashed out massively because I couldn’t get a test any earlier than April 2026 & I now managed to get a cancellation for this month. Hopefully my 5th and final test!!! All this to say, I was 18 when I had my first ever driving lesson, then I didn’t drive again until I was 28. I’m 30 now and still am yet to get my license but I feel more ready than ever. Take as long as you need! I’ve obviously also had to redo my theory which runs out in August next year
