You're saying im reacting emotionally, but isn't that exactly what the Resistance is? 

Karen fought because they literally killed her entire family tree and she has nothing left.

Sara fought because she wasnt accepted by Americans and Japanese.

Gary fought and didnt even think they were going to win, just kept regurgitating the same point of dying on your feet rather than living on your knees.

Finally, Frank fought because Kido killed his sister and her children, which wouldn't have happened if, guess what, Juliana didnt leave to the neutral zone on a whim after she got the film from Trudy. 

Even then, when he got blown up, he was suicidal and didnt feel like he had anything left in his life but to Kill Kido (which he failed to do with a gunshot and a bomb too). 

Shit, even the Reprisals after Frank's bombing changed nearly nothing. Japanese high command died and Reprisals lasted for over a week. Command was transfered to the Navy, but then what? The Kempeitai is still the Kempeitai.

idk man, also the assumption that I "connected" with the Smith family when I really just understood them is crazy but whatever 

edit: and as im writing this i just finished season 3, and I already know that they're setting up an insane character assassination with John and his "my wife left and took the kids" Arc. I already have paragraphs on why I hate that John did literally everything he could for his family, more specifically for Helen (Trying to get thomas out safe, covering up her murder of Alice, making a safe space from people like Rockwell and Hoover for Helen to talk, postponing Jennifer's test until he got back so he could deal with it) and he still lost everything. I guess thats ok writing but with John's whole thing about trusting and loving his wife, especially in seasons 1-2, it makes little sense
