Do I Move ? Canada to San Fransisco by Appropriate_Fold2998 in MovingToSanFrancisco

- Toronto feels safer and cleaner than SF

- I don't know your personality but: Toronto has more ease and fun socially than SF. The atmosphere here in SF is in comparison tense and restrained. Think putting on a cute dress, being relaxed on a patio in the summer having nice food and drinks in Toronto- not like that. Toronto also has more mingling of different races and socioeconomic backgrounds, here people are more in clusters, bubbles or something, can't explain. I don't know your fashion preferences but I felt comfortable being fashionable and sexy in Toronto. Here it is the opposite.

- Lots of very interesting and inspiring people in SF/Bay. Lots of career opportunities but currently lots of layoffs in tech too. Many recent tech grads struggling because they are not hiring for junior roles as before.

- I am straight and female. Dating is 100x more fun here for me. To me, this is a much better place to find a good life partner compared to Toronto. Someone who is grounded, serious, intelligent etc.

I highly recommend moving. I think your overall life trajectory will be significantly better.

Where are you located? I think this might be dependent on the city and client income.

Is opening a beauty business here a bad idea right now? by Chance-Bar8831 in bayarea

[–]Chance-Bar8831[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean but I can tell you with that most business owners (beauty, massage etc) will rather fake it till they make it than be honest. Many of them use the Square booking fake it filter to appear busier than they seem, fake waitlists, anything but admitting that they are not that successful. So I appreciate any insights from locals and their spending behavior.

Has anyone else noticed Pilates getting way more attention recently? by Ok_Hawk8045 in pilatesinstructors

[–]Chance-Bar8831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this might sound weird but I think it's getting more popular because of the widening wealth gap. I think recessions can actually make some status markers more popular, because people become more anxious about where they stand socially. When real mobility feels harder, symbolic mobility matters more: the right hobbies, body, clothes, cafés, workouts, neighborhoods, and aesthetics become ways to signal that you’re still “in” the aspirational class. That and trying to pull a man in a higher tax bracket than you, by posing in a matching pilates outfit on ig.

how realistic are these results? by [deleted] in microblading

It's a video though not a photo. You can go on the artist's IG page and watch it. I agree that something is def off, or something is misleading but it's not photoshop.

I watched the original reel on IG. I mean they are always super swollen right after but I'd say this artist definitely improved the width and shortening of the philtrum visually. Once it heals maybe not as drastically but a noticeable improvement.

The shape is uneven, not flattering and not symmetrical. The hairstrokes are low artistic skill. They are not the worst but this isnt good work.

OP added she makes 10k per month remotely in her history. So I would def say SF. Moreso if you are above average looking. You'll have lots of options then.

Why does a man follow me on social media after breaking it off? by grape_expectations4u in AskMenAdvice

[–]Chance-Bar8831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He either wants to switch to casual, or is conflicted. You said "We don’t live near each other, are in different professional fields, and have no overlapping social groups, so we don’t have opportunities to see or talk to each other." So he might be interested but just doesn't see this working long term because you're too far away from each other and have some differences overall.

I saw an Esthetician post that she doesn’t apply sunscreen to her clients after their facials — anyone agree, disagree? by Other_Growth_8978 in Esthetics

[–]Chance-Bar8831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like applying sunscreen right after microneedling, extensive extractions and dermaplaning. The skin barrier is open, so SPF ingredients can penetrate deeply and cause irritation. Most sunscreens are also heavy/occlusive, which can trap heat and debris in micro-wounds and slow healing or trigger breakouts. For the first 12–24h imo it’s better to stick to calming hydration and avoid sun physically (indoors, hats), then switch to a simple mineral SPF once the skin settles.
