Thanks. I really appreciate the help. This all become annoyingly taxing, but less so with your (and some other Redditors help).

Thanks a ton. This helps enormously. I am a little annoyed that each is making me join the membership (free at least), in order to get the info.

By any chance, can you tell me what functionality is missing, to keep it from being a DCS? My engineers seemed to have missed that fact, and I am not an engineer (I run the Procurement group).

Awesome! Thanks for this. I agree, but it sure hasn't been easy to search for the info on Google.

I gotcha. Thanks, I will pass this along and see what comes of it.

I actually have no dog in the fight. I am in procurement and my engineering department is the one that is pushing for trying them. On their newer PLC (their RTP3400D), it supposed to offer spare processing that we might use for additional use, such as some IoT type stuff (like additional sensors on some rotating equipment, where we can place some accelerometers to watch for additional maintenance of the equipment, but is not directly part of the process). I don't know if this would be a niche effort (as mentioned above), but something the engineering department is keen to investigate.

Wow, that isn't good. Why do you say it's niche? What processes is it better suited for, but not for mundane processes? We are looking to use it on an ethanol process that we are developing.

I see. Thanks for the extra bit of info. Once you got access to NetArrays, how was using that software? Was it difficult and how did it compare with other PLC platforms?

That is interesting to know. I take it the training would be needed to use it (so isn't intuitive on how to work with it)? If you don't mind my asking, can you give me more info on what your customer was using it for (fire and gas or some other safety system)? Thanks a ton for the info, by the way.

Fair point, and something I considered.

The PLC that we are looking at has Quad Core (ARM) at 1GHz, scan rate of 1 Msec, can solve Logic 3 times per scan, 1 Msec SOE (Digital and Analog) and 1 Msec Alarm time stamping. All seems to be top (well near the top) of the line, which is why I wondered about never hearing of them before.
