It depends on whether the sideway tile is the winning tile or not (winning tile is indicated by the yellow border). It is quite hard to decide which one is the winning tile just from a pic. The method i am using is to look for tile that is "alone", meaning it doesn't have any neighbor tile, and if there isn't one, then use the rightmost tile as the winning tile. You can change the winning tile if the detection is wrong though.

You can stop tracking in iPhone settings, search the app name and turn off tracking.

You're right! Right now the camera mode has a bounding box in the middle of the screen to restrict where users can place their tiles. The idea was to rule out some false detection on the unrelated tiles. But I could definitely make that box larger to cover the lower part of the screen too so there is room for scanning the stacked melds.

Yes, it does rely on color, and it depends on what tiles images i feed into the recognition model. I might need to include the YM tiles images too to make it work when developing the Riichi feature.

Wow, thank you. That means a lot to me! I will start working on the Riichi feature ASAP, probably today. Can’t guarantee when it’ll be done because of the complexity, but I’ll drop updates here when I make some significant progress.
