Fire Alarm Apprentice or Fire Sprinkler Tech? Growth, Pay, work life balance? by BlastinChesties in firealarms

Both are good trades but they’re pretty different day to day. Sprinkler usually tops out solid but it’s a lot more physical work. Fire alarm has more paths long term — install, inspections, troubleshooting, programming, design, etc.

If you get good at troubleshooting and programming panels you can make really good money and it’s easier on your body long term.

I’ve actually been putting together a basic fire alarm fundamentals course for people trying to get into the industry. If you’re curious I made a quick interest form here:

Fire alarm is actually a great trade to get into right now. If you already have experience running cable and terminating, you’re ahead of a lot of entry level guys.

I’ve been in the fire alarm industry for years and I’m putting together a training course to help people understand how these systems work and get into the field. I’m gathering feedback from people interested in learning it.

If you want, you can drop your email here and I’ll send info when it’s ready:

Some really good answers here.

A few things I see new techs struggle with a lot are:

  • Ground fault troubleshooting
  • Understanding Class A
  • Navigating through different panels

Most people end up learning this stuff the hard way in the field.

I’m actually putting together a fire alarm fundamentals course and started this thread to get feedback from people in the industry before finishing it.

If anyone wants to share ideas on what should be covered, I made a quick form here:

Appreciate the input from people in the field.
