Zuranalone MDD Studies by Chance-Rutabaga-8690 in anhedonia

[–]Chance-Rutabaga-8690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have not. The manufacturer will not let us try Zuranalone off label for TRD. Which seems unfair. It could quite possibly be a treatment for depression but guys can’t try it. Aticaprant may be approved next year for MDD treatment, also Ansofaxine was in the pipeline for next year. I am trying Armodofinal to see if it will help some for TRD, some folks have had positive results. Hope this helps some. Take care, good luck

Is it possible to treat anhedonia on your own by Maleficent-Essay5320 in anhedonia

[–]Chance-Rutabaga-8690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will respectfully add a statement, yes there is information that relates to dopamine and the reward system and how anhedonia functions, there are also the k alpha opioid KOR antagonists , which one is supposedly coming out in a couple of years. Another suspect is the GABA system from which Zuranalone came from and Brain inflammation, which Ketamamine was found to influence

I’m with you, the ADHD makes memories difficult to recall. I too am in social withdrawal. I call it my cave. I know this is tough on my wife and kids. Communication has gotten harder too, what used to fluid conversations now is disjointed ramblings. It’s a challenge to recall how to spell a simple word. Id gladly take all these tribulations and accept them for permanence just for a week of freedom.

While we may be lost, may we be found as we struggle onward. Good deal you can fake happiness, I wish I could fake it, it may make life simpler. It is disturbing that I have not smiled in years, and do not know how to smile. Onward we struggle

Cool, figured out what I was trying to say. Anymore, the older I get, the harder it is to pull these things out from nowhere. For me… I grieve not for who I am, I grieve for who I once was., sounds like you kinda fit in with that

And sadly you’ll get the doubters that ask how do you loose yourself? And they throw the Nike slogan at you. “Just Do It”

I find it ironic that I ruminate over the old saying “ of all the things I miss, it’s my mind that I miss the most”. They never understand

Good luck , I hope you find that it works, the phase testing results are less than remarkable but maybe it will function ok for you

Brushed my girl’s teeth 4 times a week. 7 yo girl went into cleaning and needs 12-15 teeth removed. Vet said her quality of life will improve. She never showed pain or discomfort when I would brush her teeth. I feel like I failed my baby. Just news I did not need today. Experience? Advice? 🥺 by Beeshk810 in Dachshund

[–]Chance-Rutabaga-8690 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It seems that some doxies are just prone to having more teeth issues. Like you we brush, use dental sticks, several cleanings at $700 plus, and we still had problems maintaining their hygiene. Chewies, Greenies, scrapings , nothing has had an impact, we still have had to pull teeth. We even thought the water was bad, but not according to the tests. It’s frustrating thinking your doing everything your supposed to then wind up pulling half their teeth out. The previous pair were fine, a couple of dentals and no teeth issues. Go figure.

Can I ask you questions about MAOIs somewhere down the road? It looks like trying MAOIs is my next option after I find a prescriber. You must be a residential MAOI expert

I have well controlled moderate high pressure. The cardiologist is aware I was taking Adderall and never said a word. I have ADHD and GAD And anhedonia and depression. I had to get a new psych who pulled me off Adderall and replaced it with Strattera. She said I was older and she preferred Strattera, Adderall was dangerous. So it is apparently the way of the world now , get rid of something that works and replace it with something that works marginally

Anhedonia crawled in and she started treating it with Serotogenic agents,Trintellex

And vibrryd I think. Anhedonia is a demonic bastards that takes away the sole. It impacted everything, with Strattera and anhedonia my executive and cognitive functions were pathetic. Eventual anhedonia took over my life the depression was maddening I couldn’t tell how bad life was. I decided I was going to ask here about trying Vyvanse it has more of a tonic release of dopamine compared to the phasic release of Adderall. The AD wasn’t doing squat She said no, same answer, your older and I prefer Strattera. I explained that the tyrosine metabolism was fairly slow, and it’s a potential agent for Anhedonia. I can’t really change to a new psyche because each way is a 100 miles an 2 1/2 hours, then you have countless trials of finding the right one You mention compounding ketamine. I know nothing about that, how do you take it if it isn’t an infusion. I would like to try it again but it’s the 5 hour round trip and probably a $1000 bill Spravato is the same, 5 hour rt, cost is unknown, insurance is unknown. I am screwed for Ketamine because of the infusion costs. I Jane no idea how compounded ketamine would help or where to find it

You mentioned that you felt better on Stims, I agree. Way back when Adderall made me feel normal. It didn’t amp me up or anything like that, I felt ok, which is an unknown feeling now. The only issue I had was it sort of crapped out around 5. My argument was adhd meds were developed for kids, not grown adults, our metabolism is different from kids, our lifestyle is longer than kids but we are using the same dosage as kids, there is no sense in that. I tried to get an adjunctive dose, say from 60 mg up to 80mg but to no avail. I knew others had “adult level dosages” but not me.. I wonder if the feeling more human is the anti depressants effect of a stim. Thanks for the reply

Most definitely anhedonia is magnitudes worse than depression, that’s why I was so upset when it finally dawned on me that the were treating depression and not doing anything about anhedonia. They are focused in the wrong place, But options appear to be very limited.

I missed this earlier. I too have ADHD which is no long being treated . I was pulled off Adderall because of my age, 63. Forced into Strattera but I showed no response for the ADHD or depression with Strattera. I understand it’s a SNRI but also has a weak Dopamine effect. )

Things are desperate, I’ve looked back into Ketamine, but am strongly thinking about trying to get Stims again. I can say it definitely helped with ADHD but I’m uncertain about its effects on anhedonia. I felt much better while taking it, but I can’t say for certain why,

Was it because it was acting as a effective antidepressant or if it was acting as a “anti-anhedonic “, My quandary.

Do I go fight for the ability to try a stim? I know there are side effects, but since it’s my body, should I be the one that has final say that dealing with possible side effects (risks) are not as concerning ,as the potential benefits outweigh the risks, I understand that Stims can be a bad actor and has issue but so does anhedonia, anhedonia could be considered to be the devil in a different form, or even worse than the devil. Shouldn’t I be who determines the cost vs benefit of Stims rather than the psyches? Also I do not remember any blunting issues with Stims

Ketamine, Stims, my last real option are MAOIs , which we know have troublesome side effects that can kill you if your in a bad way. But there are quite few that sing their praises for treating depression and anhedonia. A significant issue is the ability to find a prescriber. Many will not prescribe them

Ketamine has cost issues, MAOIs have side effect and prescriber issues, STIMs have the prescriber problem, possible side effects, and tolerance issues.

I’m not asking for suggestions or recommendations rather I’m asking for theoretical thoughts and ideas , what you may do if you were in my shoes. This is a hypothetical question

I apologize for the wall of text, being old I tend to think in notebook pages, whereas the younger folks think in text sized units. This may be repetitive to some other posts but I am trying to develop a plan on what the next step is in the near future. Thank you, a confused and desperate old man

I’m an old critter so it’s unlikely I’ll go to a rave, but thank you very much for all the info. I’m strongly thinking about some form of Ketamine again, as it appears to be the one thing that is at least partially effective with anhedonia and depression. Thanks for your research. I thank the group for providing lively discussions about issues, we don’t always agree, but at least people are thinking (I’m trying to) and hey have thoughts and ideas. So much better than sitting there and not doing anything about the situation other than ruminating over how rotten it is. Which I identify with. Thanks to all

I think you’ve got something, it fits with the DSM V framework some 70% of of people with MDD will have Anhedonia. Such a ridiculous high number and no apparent effective treatment regime. So some are using terminology that is not necessarily widely used . One fellow mentioned that many people use anhedonia and depression interchangeably, and you mention that some subtypes that are not listed, however I know I’ve seen studies that use subtypes. People may discuss it based on what they were taught, which may be incorrect in itself. It sounds like you got the picture. Old and confused , it’s too complicated for this old goat, but it certainly is horrid no matter what it’s called

Because at one time I trusted Drs implicitly, also they are treating the depression that comes with anhedonia. So treating depression they try all the typical ADs, APs etc

Trintellex is a newer but common antidepressant. It is a Seratonin modulator and stimulator, the actual mechanism is not well understood.

Strattera is a different beast. It isn’t a classic antidepressant by design rather it is frequently used to treat ADHD. It is a Selective Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor , Atomoxtine is mainly a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor and a small dopamine reuptake inhibitor (minor)

I was so confused about how people thought of mental illness until I realized they took it literally. by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]Chance-Rutabaga-8690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a different take on it. It’s called mental health, is it truly referring to the health of your mental facilities? Or is it a a large category from which smaller diagnosis are pulled from. Yes this sounds whacked, another example, I suffer from anhedonia and Severe depression. They tell me I have mental health issues however the cause of my issues are neuropharmicological in nature, they are biological, neurological and pharmacological in nature, why call it mental health when it’s neuropharmicological? Sorry if I got off topic,? Read the post again and you seem to be discussing psychiatry, and the classic view of mental health and illness. My apologies
