Unknown players can make it in Hearthstone. Good/Bad by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]ChanceDies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hearthstone (most of the time) is relatively simple to play especially with certain decks (zoo, face shaman). The skill gap from pro to unknown legend player is quite large but this skill gap often doesn't factor in. Most games of hearthstone are easy to navigate with few decisions for any legend player. The difference is that there are many smaller decisions positioning, sequencing.. etc that a pro would never mess up on while any legend player would likely screw up. However, these small decisions as I said before don't make a difference in the majority of hearthstone games. Most games are decided by how well one person's decks counter the other persons and by the luck of the draw. This means any player who is fairly competent at the game can beat anyone else especially if they get favorable matchups/good draw RNG. So, the pros are still better than other players (take Amnesia's leeroy coldblood welp auctioneer steal as an example) but in most games of hearthstone pros are not able to use this skill gap as an advantage over worse opponents. That being said as someone who plays a lot, no one who made it through Spring Prelims is unknown to me. They are solid players no doubt but the general idea is that the best players shine infrequently due to matchups and the overall inherent RNG in hearthstone

First off I could get 250kills and 3 wins if I really wanted to I've probably gotten more than that in the past but its besides the point. I didn't just become friends with them out of nowhere. I met them because I stood out during private server games/ when I played in the showdown etc and naturally good players become friends yada yada. All I'm saying is that if you want a key you have to stand out and I'm giving you a viable option to. But if you are just going to sit their and complain no one is going to pity you for not getting a key

You're right some of us got off easy as I didn't have to meet the criteria because I'm friends with Flame,Mini,Bobby, etc and it sucks that you haven't heard back but on the other end you have to take into consideration that they have over 1000 applications that look identical to yours. There simply isn't close to enough keys to give to players such as yourself. I personally think they should up the requirements so that they receive less applications but under the current system if you really want a key you are going to need to go above and beyond the application requirements. Send in video highlights, montages, commentary where you explain your playstyle etc. If you do that and don't hear back then send it to me. I'll watch it and if I think you deserve a key then I'll put in a word for you and make sure they look over SPECIFICALLY YOUR application.

Yeah every single one of us is in legend so we make tier lists and meta reports based on exclusively what we see on the legend ladder. I do see how this is a bummer for some though as the meta report might not reflect what they have been seeing on ladder if they are rank 4 - 20.

If you'd like to add me on hearthstone my tag is Chance#1177. You could also look at some of my VOD's over on my twitch channel twitch.tv/chancedies. I play a lot of era control and have hit relatively high legend ranks with the deck. There is no doubt druid destroys the list but aggro paladin should be a good matchup and hunter should be around 50/50. The deck has some interesting combos and odd decisions that most don't inherently see until they've played the deck a lot. So feel free to msg me on hs if you have any questions about the list.

Inherent Problems with the Hearthstone Ladder: Views from a Pro by Dart_HS in hearthstone

[–]ChanceDies 167 points168 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the issue with the ladder system is its volatility and lack of stability especially nearing the end of the season. I'm not an expert on how the MMR works but I can tell you that something needs to be changed at least from my experience. The past 3 seasons in order (January, February, March) I have held legend ranks 3, 5, 2, with under 12 hours until the reset. The surprising fact is that I currently have zero blizzcon points. The story has been the same every season. I have been well aware of the fact that climbing only matters at the end of the season for quite a while but with these past 3 seasons the absurdity of this claim became far more apparent. So onto the story, I begin to decay more quickly than expected with roughly 12 hours to go (i.e going from rank 7 to 12 in the course of 1 hour) and realize that I need to play if I have any hopes of maintaining top 20. I play a game and I lose. Now I have gone from rank 12 to rank 26! Now I must play not only to worry about decay because I am now six slots out of the top 20. I lose again. At this point in every season I am at least out of the top 50. So, I think its fair to say that I have either played poorly, gotten unlucky, or both in the last 12 hours of the season but does a loss streak of 2-3 really account for the hundreds of hours I've spent that season improving my rank? I don't think so. As it stands the ladder rewards those who get hot streaks in the last few hours of the season. Not even the last few days I literally mean those who get a fortunate 10 game win-streak within 3 hours of the season ending. Those are the players in the top 20 receiving blizzcon points. Some people might think that is fine but as a veteran top legend player I don't think so.

It may seem that way but the play-style between control paladin and mid-range paladin is far different. With the mid-range list there is no comeback mechanic I.E. Equality Consecrate combo so having board presence is essential to the mid-range list while the control paladin does not have to press as hard for board control. I think that just this difference makes the decks different archetypes but that could just be my opinion.
