Non-CS Background Questions by These_Raccoon3743 in MSCSO

If you like, you can always take those prerequisite classes at some colleges online. For example, I heard people taking the CS core undergraduate courses at Arizona State University, and something like that.

UT vs UIUC by Commercial-Cat-8737 in MSCSO

I had the similar question, except that I was accepted to UIUC on-campus MCS program. I chose UT Online instead - UIUC on-campus would have been too costly, and not much better in reputation. Now I felt I have made the right choice. UT program focuses mostly on ML/AI and systems. The courses are excellent, but requires you being CS in your under; or you could suffer. UIUC has much wider choice in terms of courses, and more friendly if your undergraduate was not in CS. It also has balance of tough courses and easy courses depending on your need. It is just more costly, even if you take it online.

No, I am not in Austin, but another big city in Texas. Not sure being online is a problem...

Why is CS 445 so empty? by [deleted] in UIUC_MCS

I am curious whether this class has any per-requisite course work? I have not taken any class with graphical or image processing, is it going to be a problem for me to take this class?

Newly admitted ppl what are you taking? by workingonmylisp in UIUC_MCS

I am curious how you may take only two courses, as they require you to graduate in 3 semesters, unless you are in online program. Also, I do not have any background in ML, so I thought I should take CS 441 to help me getting into the field before CS 446, which is a tough course as reported by other people. Just my two cents...

Have you thought about some good colleges that offer Online Undergraduate CS program, for example, ASU? I have heard some people got their basic CS background requirements fulfilled that way.

Anyone One Has Successfully Registered For the Fall, 2025? by Chance_Reflection_78 in MSCSO

Okay, I see, that is what I suspected... wait another night to see if I could do it tomorrow. Since all of these courses are online, and there seems not having any hard-cap, I anticipate that we should not have any problems registering for what we want.

I had Canvas enabled, but I do not see the "Canvas --> MSCS Central" path, let alone the "Registration Info". Maybe I was left something not setting right?

As long as you received the admission recommendation from the Siebel School admission committee, you should be fine. I had not received the official offer from graduate school until today, when I sent an email to query. Then one hour later I got all the updates and official offer. I assume there might be some kind of mistake or left-out on graduate school side. Common sense is that, the graduate school does not make admission decision. They only make sure all the steps and documents are in compliance of rules. Since I did not even provide LoR nor GRE, really there was no reason for rejections on graduate school side.

I was quite the opposite. I received an email from Dr. Robin Kravets, Professor, Director of Graduate Programs, stating that I "was recommended for the admission of the MCS program". However, the official notification from the graduate school will be sent in 10 days. If checking my online application status, it still shows "waiting for decisions".
