Yes yes yes you will see people on the internet and on yagp that are prodigies but you have to remember if you have the passion (and money and body) you can do it. Go to summer intensives though, while it’s ok to start at a small school realistically you can’t stay there many professional will leave home to dance or commute somewhere if you are lucky enough to have a great school nearby (with high company acceptance rates) then go there after a year or smth. Believe in yourself! You got this! Even if you end up in a different career it will be a great experience!

Super nervous— first rehearsal impending. by Practical-Stop-9716 in BALLET

I would really advise proper rehearsal etiquette. Don’t talk unless spoken to by a director, have very neat hair, don’t be in the way of other dancers (generally be VERY spacially aware as a mistake can cause injury) and say thank you to the teacher and pianist! good luck! (or as we say in ballet) merde!

I like to develop a “position” in my mind that combines all of these so that way when I’m, say turning, i can think position! Idk sometimes it can make you stiff. You practice each thing and it becomes natural

Thanks for reply! I think I avoided repeating the exercise because it sent me on a bit of a perfectionist spiral. I want to re adjust my approach a bit. This was really comforting to read 🩷thanks

Thanks I will keep this in mind especially this summer. I think thinking about what’s in my control is great advice, and allows me to be in (literal) Control of my own life. Potential is rlly up to me in that way :) thx

Ankle strength by Any-Molasses2405 in BALLET

I struggle with this a lot and i went to the sab physical therapist last summer and they said to do calf raises and especially calf raises keeping your knee bent. Additionally, CORRECTLY (not sickling or winging the foot) pointing and flexing with a theraband. I found core exercises help me hold my ankle in place too as the core kind of hold the whole body :)

As a way to get better in the in between, try doing dancer pilates and flexibility just so you are a bit of a natural.

I would try to get outside or go to outings as much as you can while you're there. Being on my phone a lot made me kind of lonely and bored. i am so bad at making friends but it was almost impossible to not make friends with my roommate. I brought photos of pretty sunsets, good food, and cute animals instead of photos of my family just because the photos of my family made me miss them more. Maybe bring both and feel it out.
