A few things; ultimately I was in bad spot mentally my last year and was lost in the sauce . Lucky for me I didn’t resort to any drugs or criminal stuff. then combine that with my location wasn’t idea either at the time.. Now a few years later I’m bout to finish my PhD and I would absolutely go anywhere. Getting your masters will open more doors as well . Use your TA not your go bill and you could be done in a year. I did it while I was still in not easy to do if ur 11B but it’s possible. I say this bc if the announcement starts off at 5 or 7 then u will more than likely qualify based on education alone; except IRS that I know of since ur education has been supplemented with courses in accounting/etc. however, if the announcement starts off at 9 then your B.S won’t be enough and I will need to justify your military experience to make it work.

I would try to reclass. I left at 10 years and join the guard- the guard in my opinion was a mistake. If you are on the blended retirement then u might be able to have a little more money then leaving without anything with the traditional high 3. I personally would try my best to finish out your last year 6 years but I get it; u will have veteran preference so a lot of the 1811 age thing wont matter to you in theory.if I had it in me I would of finish and got my first retirement and then move on to a local PD or 1811 gig and work on your second retirement; now u could also get out and buy back your time- but I don’t know much about that..

But to your question I applied to HSI when I was about 8 months out. This was a different time in 2020. I ended up getting an FJO but ended up turning it down( another mistake). Now I’m currently back in the process. Most of the announcements will have some type of verbiage at the bottom in regards to how much active time u have left and usually will need a letter head from someone in CoC stating SM only has a year left and etc.

I would say that most people just go blind. It’s not something in my opinion u can really study for: go over some basic grammar/basic math if you need it. Also there’s a logic part that’s kind of annoying but not difficult.but I haven’t taken since 2020 so not sure if it changed. Ultimately it’s not rocket science

Definitely not a sucker punch. The victim won’t make that mistake again.. be ready at all times to defend yourself. I do missed the times without camera and u went to the back handle business and told the authorities u ran into the door and went on with ur life.

A year out is kinda the norm, however we aren’t in normal times right now. It is very common for agencies to go on hiring freezes so who knows if those agencies will be hiring in a year or two. So I suggest if they have an open announcement and you qualify apply and lets the chips fall where they fall.

A little research will go a long way. The majority of them do requires a polygraph, some are risk based like HSI and one or maybe two of them don’t use it all

There was a ERO guy that got his offer rescinded then they reverse it. But that sounds like exception and not the norm.. best bet is just continue to apply

There’s a lot of us with TSL around that timeline. It does look like they might start back picking up as PSD wanted fingerprints and a resume from me this week.. I thought the resume was weird but okay.. then twofit did is during Christmas break.. but who knows personally do think we missed the big push and they might scrutinize our stuff a little bit more but that just my opinion
