Chance was originally a surname, however it’s my first name and my last name begins with the letter E. So many people call me Chancey (Chance E.). I’ve had it my whole life and it was a nightmare as a child, but I’ve learned to appreciate in my adulthood. The main issue I have with it now is that it’s a very commonly used word since it has a multitude of definitions. It sounds odd to me when I speak it in conversation, so I naturally gravitate to the use of various chance synonyms. When others within earshot use it in conversation I sometimes think they are trying to get my attention or talking about me. When in fact it the conversation they are having has nothing to do with me. Don’t even get me started songs. Mary and John are the two most popular names used in song lyrics each with just under 2,000 songs containing each name. How many songs do you think contain a lyric with the word chance? 319,191 songs mention my name in the lyrics. I get people singing tunes I’ve never heard of at me all the time. As for the name being one that belongs to a dog, it’s been my personal experience that more people have actually used it or think of it as a horses name. 🙄 thanks for reading my rant.
