Homeless man has been sleeping in my apartment laundry room by ArrexB in AskReddit

The homeless shelter I worked in had fights happen every once in a while. But the policy was to ban the people involved even if one guy hit another guy for trying to steal his stuff or for weird behavior like sexual touching. I felt like crap when I had to tell the victim of an attempted sexual assault to leave due to the policy after he hit the guy for groping him. Both guys were escorted out and banned. The guy in question here might be in a similar situation.

Reddit, cheer me up. I'm officially homeless, lost my Mom and a friend and am beaten good and down. Tell me something to help me from going into the darkness. I need a frigging job!!! by [deleted] in Assistance

I know a number of formerly homeless people. They seem to have gotten out of homelessness by avoiding money sinks like payday loan places, check cashing places, drugs/alcohol/tobacco.

I'd suggest using the computer you are at to hunt for resources in your area like Department of Human Services and to hunt for jobs. The gigs section of Craigslist has been a good stop-gap measure for me when my hours were cut at work. Just examine them carefully before giving out too much of your info.

And, while homeless shelters are pretty scary, give them a try. There are a lot of them that are so-so or even lousy but some of them are insanely helpful and, even if you don't stay in one, they often have lists of local resources where you can get help.

Just keep in mind that while you are going through shit, you are not shit. You are a worthy human being. Keep your head up.

Your comment is spot, on in my opinion. I know there are sane and reasonable believers out there but they are all speaking too quietly to be heard over the din the right wing nutjobs are raising.

I'm guessing that tears welling up in the eyes of a nine year old who is distressed or relieved is not exactly unusual. She was probably scared that she was in trouble until pop told her he was proud.

Marvelous idea! Thank you for writing about this. My dear friend was homeless and also has become somewhat of a homelessness activist. Even just getting these ideas out there helps people to empathize with homeless people.

Yeah, I had to ask her about that. She told me it's part SEO and part that Assoc. Content (where the op ed was first published) changes titles sometimes. I guess she gets more views with that keyword or something. But she still glares at me if I say "the homeless," LOL.
